1. What is DMC 5 about?

The demon hunters from the Devil May Cry universe plunge into a new adventure. A few years after the events of DMC 4, the fifth part starts and brings you three heroes at once: Dante, Nero and V. The first two men are familiar from the predecessors, but with V Capcom has come up with a new character.

Dante is hired by V to stop a whole series of demon attacks together. Nero also swings into battle. After his demon-cursed arm is stolen, he now has to work with a machine prosthetic. As a trio, they try to fight against the source of evil. You'll find out whether you can do this in the skin of the demon hunters after about 15 hours of gameplay.

Devil May Cry 5 uses some familiar mechanics and lets you fight against demons again in fast action scenes. However, there are also some innovations in the game. For example, it's Nero who brings a large number of abilities with his Devil Breaker. He can use it to get close to his opponents or bring them to him to deal powerful damage in a very short time.

V, on the other hand, doesn't fight himself most of the time, but has animal helpers at his side. It takes a while to learn how to control the three creatures simultaneously while keeping the pale controller out of the line of fire. As soon as you take on the role of Dante, everything feels kind of homey. Since he's the most experienced demon hunter, he's waiting with all sorts of cool tricks to defeat the enemies.

By the way, the spin-off DMC: Devil May Cry is not part of the main series and was also developed by a different team. Among fans, this part is not as popular as the main series.

2. Character: Nero, Dante and V

Devil May Cry veterans will know the young demon hunter from one of the prequels. After his arm was stolen, his partner Nico made him a new one. Whenever Nero defeats a strong demon, she grabs the remains and creates a new tech gadget for him. Each of his Devil Breakers has different abilities in battle.

Dante is the oldest of the three men and also the character with the most experience. With him, the series started around demons and lots of action. In this part, he uses not only his weapon, but also his stylish hat in combat. He is asked for help by V to protect the world from the new threat.

Unlike his colleagues, V doesn't attack himself, but summons animal demons to do the dirty work for him. If an enemy's health is minimized enough, he takes over again himself deals them the death blow.

3. The battle system

DMC 5 is a hack'n'slay with a lot of action. You take turns playing the three characters Nero, Dante and V. The combat system is based on the previous parts of the series and thus ties in with Devil May Cry 4. Switch seamlessly between different weapon types in combat and chain your attacks to create cool combos that are eventually rewarded with a high score after victory.

Slash your way through hordes of enemies with sword or Nero's various prosthetic arms and defeat the tricky bosses. V himself only uses his walking stick in battle, otherwise his demons do the work with punches, bites and co. The high game speed makes the hack-and-slash fights look especially impressive and fast-paced while you destroy the demons.

4. The Cameo System / Multiplayer

Devil May Cry 5 is not a pure multiplayer game. Nevertheless, you have the possibility to play certain sections together with your friends. However, since there is no crossplay, you have to own the game on the same platform. In some boss fights you'll be able to invite other demon hunters, so you'll be able to strike at the evil together and with double the power.

Besides the possibility of fighting together, Capcom has included another feature to be close to your friends: the cameo system. You may discover demon hunters in the background of a level, fighting against an enemy from another section of the game. These are your friends! The scenes are recorded, saved, and then projected in the background. If you don't have friends playing DMC 5, you'll see the fights from the developers.
