What are combat roles?

Combat roles supplement the default game classes in Battlefield 5, giving players more options to customize their character to their liking and play style.

When you start multiplayer, you will initially only have the default combat role of all game classes at your disposal. You unlock the first choice when you reach class rank 8. This is relatively quick, and all you have to do is play with each class for a while.

With the new combat role, you can then customize your equipment to better stand up to the enemy on the battlefield. You can also change the combat role while the game is in progress. To do so, simply change your soldier's equipment in the joining overview.

The assault soldier in Battlefield 5.

Class guide to the assault soldier

The assault soldier is basically the toughest of the four classes. In the midst of battle, he is particularly effective at short and medium distances, and also takes care of destroying vehicles.

Both in attack and defense, the assault soldier is a solid bench and thus also the most beginner-friendly of the game classes. However, be careful not to run too much across open fields, or the assault soldier will fall victim to snipers very quickly.

As primary weapons, the assault soldier carries assault rifles and semi-automatic rifles. As for the gadgets, you'll have to deal with a lot of explosions: Sticky dynamite and a rifle grenade launcher are just the beginner gadgets.

The two combat roles included in the game so far are the Light Infantry and the Armor Cracker:

  • Light Infantry: defeated players drop more ammo (allies and enemies), increased health regeneration
  • Armor Cracker (rank 8 and above): Damaged vehicles are marked on radar for everyone, destroyed vehicles grant additional requirement points

The medic class will be more important than ever in Battlefield 5.

Class guide to the medic

As a medic, you are of course in the middle of the action in Battlefield 5. Instead of blowing up vehicles, you help wounded comrades or restore fallen allies.

Although every class can now revive downed soldiers, only the medic has a syringe with him, so the whole thing doesn't involve dangerous seconds of waiting. So it's even more important that the medics do their job properly to help fellow players back on their feet quickly.

Of course, each Medic has a weapon with them and can use it to stand up to short and medium distances. As a primary weapon, the medic carries submachine guns, and as beginner gadgets he has the medic bag and a smoke grenade launcher.

The two combat roles included in the game so far are the Field Medic and the Combat Medic:

  • Field medic: additional requirement points for supplying comrades with medical bags, faster sprint to fallen soldiers
  • Combat Medic (rank 8 and above): Melee attacks are automatically takedowns, faster sprint at low health

The supply soldier in Battlefield 5.

Class guide to the supply soldier

The supply soldier can also be found in the middle of the battle. He is responsible for ensuring that his comrades always have enough ammunition, but can also keep their heads down behind barricades.

However, the supply soldier does not only build cover: He can also erect stationary weapons, providing additional firepower.

As with the medic and assault soldier, the supply soldier's armament is designed for short and medium range. He carries Light MGs and Medium MGs as his primary weapons, while his rookie gadgets include the ammo pouch and an anti-tank mine.

The two combat roles included in Battlefield 5 so far are the Pioneer and the MG Gunner:

  • Pioneer: faster repair of vehicles and faster erection of barricades, slower overheating of stationary and vehicle-mounted weapons
  • MG gunner (rank 8 and higher): better hold-down ability, enemies are automatically sighted when under continuous fire

The Scout in Battlefield 5.

Class guide to the scout

With some distance to the battlefield and accordingly a lot of overview, the scout supports his comrades from a distance.

However, the scout is not only there to watch his team's back. He also has the right equipment to spot enemy players for his allies on the minimap, making their lives easier.

The scout is equipped with powerful sniper rifles that take out enemies with one shot if they hit him in the head. The primary weapons available to him are chambered rifles and self-loading rifles. The beginner gadgets are the spotting scope and the "Bouncing Betty" bomb.

The two combat roles included in Battlefield 5 so far are the Sniper and the Scout:

  • Sniper: rifle can be held steady longer when aiming, stability stamina is partially replenished on head hits
  • Pathfinder (rank 8 and above): Spawn at allied squad leaders and spawn beacons of other squads, additional requirement points for team spawns at own beacon
