Daymare 1998 Guide: Tips & Tricks for Survival

In this Daymare 1998 Guide we give you tips about

  • sensible item management
  • the functions of the H.I.V.E. Rooms
  • Fighting
  • the healing system

The first work of the Italian developer "Invader Studios" is a classic survival horror. This means that we (similar to the great role model Resident Evil 2) save ammunition, do item management and gradually open up the different areas by solving puzzles. Besides this guide, we also have a guide to all achievements in Daymare 1998 for you. A Daymare 1998 walkthrough will also be available here soon.

After the Steam release in September 2019, Daymare 1998 is also available for Playstation 4 and Xbox One since April 28, 2020. If you get stuck at any point in the game, we have a walkthrough for Daymare 1998 for you.

The right item management in Daymare 1998

As in Capcom's cult classic Resident Evil, item management is at the forefront in Daymare 1998. A total of 12 item slots are available in the so-called D-I-D (Data Interchange Device). In addition, there are three slots reserved for your weapons. This means you won't have any inventory worries regarding your shooting irons.

You should always keep your D-I-D tidy

A basic tip: combine everything that can be combined. For example, you can load pistol ammo into the magazine. Furthermore, you should keep at least two places free for key items, because they are necessary for the story progress.

In case of attacking zombie hordes, you need to have the right equipment ready. So always take some ammo for each of your weapons. The already mentioned pistol magazines are especially important. It is also advisable to always carry a large healing item (more on this below) and two smaller ones, such as energy bars.

Daymare 1998: How the H.I.V.E. Rooms work

Those who have played Resident Evil will surely know the save rooms: There you can store items, save or simply rest. The H.I.V.E. Rooms in Daymare are nothing else, and just like in Capcom's survival horror hit, enemies can't enter these rooms. However, Daymare's version of the "safe room" comes with a few upgrades.

Not only can you stash items, but you can also trade them in for others. Check the "Trade" tab in the H.I.V.E. terminal every time. You can store superfluous items here and get better ones at the same time, like shotgun ammo in exchange for two cables. Not a bad deal.

Here we can relax to atmospheric piano sounds

Explore every corner of the game world. Also keep an eye out for the so-called ID tags. You can find them on dead agents. If you bring an ID tag to the H.I.V.E., you will receive nice rewards. All these advantages give the H.I.V.E. rooms a strategic value, so it makes sense to memorize the shortest routes to the "panic rooms".

How to be successful in battles

In Daymare 1998, zombies and all sorts of other enemies are lurking everywhere. The game is not very generous with ammunition, so it is important to avoid fights. Especially in larger areas, such as reception halls or streets, it is quite easy to run around enemies. Now and then there is also the possibility to lure enemies out of a narrow space or to trick them at a barrier, for example a row of washing machines.

But sometimes a confrontation is still unavoidable. You'll mostly encounter zombies that can be compared to the "Lost" from "The Evil Within 2" (). This means that you should concentrate on headshots. Don't waste ammo on shooting the limbs off the enemies.

A special feature of Daymare 1998 is the fast and slow reload. The fast reload is quick, but you drop the replaced magazine. This is an advantage in fights, but don't forget to collect the magazine afterwards. Also, make sure that your magazines are always loaded in the appropriate quickslot.

How to use healing effectively in Daymare 1998

Instead of eating herbs, craft chemical mixtures called R.U.F.s (Rapid Use Fluids) in Daymare 1998. These can be made by combining a base item, such as an energy drink, with an H-Additive container. You can make the following R.U.F.s:

  1. Healing: Energy Drinks/Protein Bars H-Additives
  2. Stamina: Epinephrine H-Additive
  3. Increased Aiming Accuracy: Mental Drops H-Additive

In the status HUD you can check the condition of your character at any time

Additionally, the effects of the different chemicals can be combined and maximized. For example, if you mix a healing R.U.F. with a stamina R.U.F., you get both in one. Add two R.U.F.s of the same type and you can enjoy an enhanced effect.

However, be responsible with your chemical consumption, because if you take too many R.U.F.s at once, you may overdose. Instead of healing, you will then take damage.
