Which starter is best for new or returning players?

As in all the other sequels of the series, at the beginning of Pokémon Sun & Moon you have the choice between three cute pocket monsters. There's the cute owl Bauz with the types Plant and Flight, the water Pokémon Robball, which reminds you of a seal, and last but not least the fire cat Flamiau.

Since the trials on the first island Mele-Mele confront you with trainers that specialize in the types Normal and Battle, itmakes no difference whether you choose Flamiau or Robball. Both Fire and Water Pokémon have no weaknesses against Normal and Battle types, but they also have no strengths. The situation is a little different with Bauz. It has the types Plant and Flight. Attacks of the type Flight are particularly effective against Battle Pokémon and will simplify your fight against Island King Hala accordingly.

<a href=#"></a>How does the battle system work?</h3><p>Since Pokémon Red and Blue, some things have changed in the games, but the <strong>basic principle has nevertheless remained the same</strong>. Each of the up to six pocket monsters that can make up your team is capable of learning a maximum of four attacks. In addition, you collect in the course of the island walk in Pokémon Sun & Moon so-called <strong>Z crystals</strong>, which equip certain attacks with special power.</p><p>As usual, a pocket monster takes part in the fight until its KP (power points) have reached zero or you decide to replace it. In addition to items with various effects that can be worn by Pokémon, status changes - from poisoning to paralysis - offer all participants further strategic options.</p><p>A novelty in Pokémon Sun & Moon is that these <strong>status changes can also be cancelled</strong> without items. Because by <strong>the feature Poképause</strong> you not only build a strong bond with your companions so that they overcome status changes on their own accord for your sake. When you take a Poké break, you can also heal injuries like burns "by hand" after a fight.

<a href=#"></a>General Tips</h3><p><strong>Don't let the new features scare you too much.</strong> Sure, Pokémon Sun & Moon change quite a bit about the classic concept around arena ladders and orders, but the games still center around Pokémon battles, which finally get the new twist they need with the different trials, as well as battles against island kings and ruler Pokémon.</p><p><strong>Speak with the inhabitants of Alola</strong>, they give namely not only background information about the idyllic island paradise. One or the other of them also gives you valuable items that prove very useful on the island walk.</p><p><figure><img src="/guides/assets/jpg/779254BEA4278473835BA228C61F5483.jpg" width="1134" height="1191"><p>Lunala from Pokémon Sun & Moon</p></figure></p><p><h3>Tips for Pros</h3><p><a href="#5">What are Alola forms and how do they affect you?</a></p><p><a href="#6">What is the QR code scanner and how does it work?</a></p><p><a href="#7">What are Z attacks?</a></p><p><a href="#8">General tips</a></p><h3><a href=#">Whatare Alola forms and how do they affect?

You already know that Pokémon also reside in regions from which they did not originate at all. But until now, the new habitat had no effect on them - but that changes with Pokémon Sun & Moon. The mild climate of the Alola region is home to pocket monsters like Rattfratz or Vulpix, which you know from the first Pokémon generation around the Red, Blue and Yellow editions. However, they look very different from their relatives from Kanto.

In Pokémon Sun & Moon, they come in their Alola forms, which change their appearance, types, and abilities, sometimes drastically. Sandan, for example, is originally a ground Pokémon. In Sun & Moon, however, it has the types ice and steel, to which its appearance has also been adapted. Digdri, on the other hand, has mainly adapted its appearance to the surfer's paradise of Alola and now wears a flowing head of hair.

What are Z-Attacks?

After the mega-evolution that found its way into the big world of Pokémon with the X & Y editions, Sun & Moon now come up with another completely new feature. The so-called Z-Attacks provide strategic advantages in battles, but can only be used to a limited extent.

A good relationship between trainer and pocket monster as well as the items Z-Ring and Z-Crystal are important. During your island wanderings, defeated island kings and captains will give you crystals corresponding to their favorite Pokémon type. There are two different types of Z-Attacks in Sun & Moon. One can be performed by Pocket Monsters of the corresponding type if they have the corresponding Z Crystal. The others, on the other hand, are tailored to certain Pokémon. For example, a Relaxo that has the attack "Gigastoß" can perform the unique Z attack called "Enough fun". But only if it also carries the Z-crystal Relaxonium Z.

<a href=#"></a>General Tips</h3><p><strong>Some Pokémon evolve only in certain places or under other specific circumstances.</strong>You already know about Evoli evolving into Psiana exclusively during the day and Nightara at night. Pokémon Sun & Moon push the whole thing a bit further, though. Some pocket monsters reach their next level exclusively in special places, if they have a certain gender or know the right attack for it. The advancements of some pocket monsters even differ from each other in Sun & Moon.</p><p><strong>Talking to the inhabitants is not only worthwhile for the story.</strong> Apart from background information, some of them provide you with many useful items, which in turn do not have to be bought in the supermarket. The money saved you can spend on high-priced items such as TMs of powerful attacks or carbon and zinc, which make more targeted training of Pokémon possible.</p><p><strong>VMs are a thing of the past.</strong> Gone are the days when one of your Pokémon had to hold out to learn for the gameplay important attacks such as surfer or flying. Now you have more options to strategically shape your team, because the VM constraint has finally been removed. Thus, you'll no longer have to have pocket monsters of certain types (water or flight) in your team to advance. The Pokémobile feature replaces VMs by letting you summon a Lapras to cross water or a Glurak to fly from one island to the next.</p>
