Monster Hunter: World - Weapon Tree Explanation

Basically, Monster Hunter: World is nothing more than a string of boss enemies that want to finish you off with exploding scales (Bazelgeuse), attacks that cause bleeding(Odogaron) or fire breath (Rosa Rathian).

The right armor and the ideal weapon for your play style are all the more important. the action role-playing game offers 14 different types and separate weapon trees for each of them, which show you improvements.

What is a weapon tree?

Basically an overview of all the upgrades of one type that are available for your chosen hunting tool. The further you get in Monster Hunter: World, the more (monster) materials you'll collect, which in turn can be used to create stronger weapons.

The weapon trees - as you can see below in the example of the Energy Blade - have corresponding names. For example, there is the Jyuratodus, Tobi Kadachi or Great Girros tree.

If you want to learn more about crafting, you can find all sorts of recipes for making ammunition, traps, etc. here.

How does the weapon tree work?

In most cases, the crafted weapons then offer exactly the advantages that the respective material brings along. For example, if you first upgrade the first weapon version of the Bone Tree to level two and then use Tobi Kadachi materials, you will receive the so-called "Pulsar Blade" in Monster Hunter: World you'll get the so-called "Pulsar Bat".

This, in turn, can be upgraded with higher quality materials - which you can get in the High Rank of Monster Hunter: World - and deals thunder damage. This is very effective against Legiana, the apex monster of the Coral Highlands, among others.

Since each monster has very unique weaknesses, you'll need to stock up on a variety of "weapon subtypes". For example, the Rathalos tree of the Energy Blade produces a weapon with fire damage, while the Rathian tree produces one with poison damage.

For each of these improvements you'll have to collect very specific materials, and for this Monster Hunter: World has a particularly useful aid.

The Wish List

By pressing a button (triangle on the PlayStation 4), you'll be able to add weapon improvements to your wishlist. This way, you don't have to keep checking whether you've already collected all the necessary materials.

Instead, a small message on the right side of your screen will inform you when you return from quests that you have all the items you need for a weapon upgrade. In a game as complex as Monster Hunter: World, this is pretty darn useful.

And because it's so easy to lose track of everything: Make sure your wishlist is always filled to the last of its slots. That way, you'll never miss an important upgrade and reduce the risk of falling flat on your face when you face Black Diablos & Co. with a weapon that's too weak.
