Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 - Five tips & tricks for Blackout

In this guide to Blackout in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 you will learn:

  • Where you should land on the map
  • How to pick up weapons faster
  • How healing works in Blackout
  • How to stay undetected

Land away from the crowds

At the beginning of each round of Blackout, you'll jump out of a helicopter with your wingsuit. It's best to wait a bit and not jump out of the helicopter immediately. As soon as you have jumped out, look for a secluded place and don't fly after the other players.

For example, the estate on the northern edge of the map or the turbine on the southeastern edge of the map are good places to do this. Avoid the central points of the map around the shooting range if possible.

Find a lonely spot on the huge blackout map.

First of all: Find your weapon!

Sounds obvious, but with the flood of items you can pick up everywhere, it's not that easy: Look for a weapon immediately after landing and ignore any items until you find them. If you encounter an unarmed enemy with a weapon, you are only a fraction of a second away from virtual death.

A tip for console players

By default, you have to hold down the square key (PlayStation) or X key (Xbox) to collect items in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. This costs you unnecessary time. In the options menu under "Blackout", you can change the "Blackout item pickup" from "hold" to "press". Then a simple press on the square or X key is enough to pick up an item.

The only disadvantage is that you can't reload when you're standing over an item; instead, you always have to pick up the item first. In our opinion, this is not a problem and is made up for by the faster pickup of the items.

In the Blackout menu you can change the item pickup.

Use the Perks you find in Battle Royale Mode

You'll find quite a few perks in Blackout. These are the little green boxes on the ground. Use them, too. Even if a perk only lasts between two and five minutes, you shouldn't hoard them. Because activating them takes a few seconds. Once you're in the fight, it's usually too late for that.

So use the perks before you get into a fight. Perks like Dead Silence make your footsteps silent to enemies for a while, while Iron Lung lets you hold your breath longer with sniper and tactical rifles.

Be decent and close doors behind you

Yes, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 also rewards decency. Close doors behind you when you enter a house. Open doors signal to other players that either an enemy is still lurking there or that someone has already been there.

Also, the sound of doors opening will let you know when an enemy enters the house you're looting.

Another tip: Use the doors and not the windows to enter houses. You can jump through the glass windows, but they will attract even more attention from the players around you when they shatter than door sounds would.

Don't skimp on medikits in Blackout

Blackout offers you three different healing items: First Aid, Medikits and Trauma Kits. First Aid heals 25 points, Medikits heal 50 health points. Trauma kits even heal you completely at once and give you an additional boost to 200 health points.

It is important that you heal yourself after every fight, saving up the healing items makes little sense. You don't even have to stay on the spot. The healing items can be used while running, just like in the normal multiplayer mode.

Don't forget to heal up after a fight.

Bonus tip: Which items to keep?

There are also items in the Battle Royale mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 that are worth keeping until the end of a round. These would be, for example, the barbed wire or the retractable barricade.

At the end of the round, the playing field has usually become very small. In this narrow space such stationary items can decide about victory or defeat. And with our tips from above, you're sure to make it to the bitter end of a round once or twice.
