Resident Evil 2 Remake: 3 mods that make the game even more awesome

Mods make every game better. The remake of Resident Evil 2 already offers many options on its own, which will fill long-term fans with nostalgia. On the other hand, if you long for the first-person perspective from Resident Evil 7: biohazard, you've also come to the right place. Because in this article you will see:

  • how to get the old inventory back
  • how to experience the new Resident Evil 2 from the first-person perspective
  • how the horror game looks like from the familiar, fixed camera perspective

You want to experience your favorite game in a completely new way? Then you've come to the right place. Before we start, we don't want to keep you from the fact that a remake of Resident Evil 3 might already be confirmed. In addition, we'll show you how to get all the weapons you need and how to kill enemies like Mister X or William Birkin.

Inventory & saves like before

In Resident Evil 2 Remake you can unlock the classic outfits for Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, among others. The extra DLC package also features the original music and sound effects. To top it off, a modder named "Crazy Potato" brings the soothing blue from the original back into the inventory.

"Classic UI" is the title of this mod. Once you've installed it (on PC) and saved, your saves will also get the small character images from before. Click through to the corresponding video now for a taste of this nostalgic mod.

Resident Evil 2 Remake from the first person perspective

Back to the future: Thanks to this mod, you can experience the events in Raccoon City from a first-person perspective. If you liked this feature better in the skin of Ethan Winters, you can also get the oppressive atmosphere in the remake. Thanks to the modder "praydog" and his project "RE2 Mod Framework".

The cool thing about it is that you can see Leon's arms and legs at any time. Your character is not a "ghost" floating through the Raccoon Police Department. If you suffer from severe motion sickness, weapons or flashlight holding hands could help you not to get sick (so fast) in the first person perspective.

Fixed camera thanks to mod

You want the full package of nostalgia? Then Jackson Lee, who is behind the YouTube channel Enveloping Sounds, will transport you right back to 1998. Through his work, you'll experience the Resident Evil 2 remake from the original's beloved fixed camera angles in the video below. Unlike the other two featured mods, however, this one has a catch.

It is (currently) not playable for you. In an interview with the website Rock Paper Shotgun, the creator explains that this is beyond his abilities. This would require changes to the mechanics of the horror game, and many areas would also need better lighting. For example, the gloomy corridors of R.P.D. are specially designed for the "over the shoulder" perspective, which is why some corners are too dark for fixed camera angles.

Accordingly, the video does not show real gameplay footage. Instead, the modder explains that he used a program to record Leon or Claire walking through certain scenes. He then combined these snippets and created his work. So if you know better, get in touch with him and combine the best of this with the original.
