The boss Nobleman of the Scalp of the Gods is buried deep in Mount Gelmir in Elden Ring. To find him, you must first uncover the secret path through House Volcano. We'll show you how to fight the giant with the needle.
Noble of the Scalp of the Gods: How to find the hidden boss
In our quest guide to Rya you will learn how to reach the secret passage to the area under House Volcano. Once you have arrived at the church of the dungeon community, leave it and follow the path to the northwest until you arrive at the platform with a gnome statue.
Cross the bridge and kill the snake man. Jump over the railing on the left onto the roof below and enter the building through the open door on the balcony. Make your way to the main gate in the basement and cross the lava area to the northeast until you arrive at a platform with two winged statues. One of the cages serves as an elevator.
Kill the Black Flame Monk on the stairs leading to the boss arena. Before you enter it, turn left and pull the lever. This will unlock a shortcut that will shorten the way to the boss arena in the future in case of on-screen death.
Noble of the Scalp of the Gods: strengths and weaknesses of the boss
The Noble of the Godscalp deals stab damage and standard physical damage with his Godscalp Needle. Occasionally, he casts Black Flame, which deals fire damage to you. You can parry his blows with the needle.
Since the Noble of the Godscalp boss doesn't wear armor, you can hit him with a lot of physical damage. He is especially vulnerable to cutting damage. Fire and Holy damage are not very effective. You should rather use magic and lightning.
The quickest way to control the Noble of the Godscalp is with a Blood build. Blood loss is his great weakness. He also doesn't tolerate sleep, frost, poison, and scarlet rot well. He is immune to death plague, however.
Noble of the Godscalp: How to defeat the boss
The Noble of the Scalps of the Gods relies on two types of attacks at the beginning: Fireballs of Black Flame and quick combos with his rapier. If his left fist turns black and he takes a throw, dart forward or sideways to escape the flame ball. If you are close enough, you can hit him again.
Much more dangerous are his fast stabbing attacks with the rapier. You should pay attention to the following combinations:
- Stab with subsequent swing attacks: The nobleman briefly holds the rapier in front of his body with the tip pointed at you. Dodge to the side as soon as he stamps his foot. This is immediately followed by two swings from right to left, which you can block with a strong shield. Finally, he hits the butt of the weapon on the ground, which gives you a chance to counterattack: Dodge and attack him from the side.
- Charged Stab: The nobleman again holds the rapier in front of his body with the point facing forward, but charges the blow. You hear a short swinging sound. After that, he will lunge forward with a thrust and pause in this position for a moment. If you dodge at the right moment, you have the chance for two or three charged attacks before he strikes at you with his fist.
Noble of the Godscalp: Boss fight phase 2
Once you've drained his life bar by about half, the Noble of the Scalps of the Gods starts to swell up. He rolls through the arena like a roller and you can hardly avoid him. Release the focus and try to run next to him if possible or run as fast as possible to the other end of the church.
If he inflates and jumps into the air, a stomp attack follows. Dodge sideways just before he lands and attack him immediately. Towards the end, he picks up the pace significantly on his rapier attacks.
One attack in particular can quickly turn deadly: A light black flame forms around his rapier - run away immediately! This is followed by a machine-gun-like volley of stabbing attacks that cause continuous damage.
If you don't manage to get out of the danger zone in time, dodge sideways several times as soon as he raises his leg and holds the sword in front of his face (see screenshot). The best chances for counterattacks are again after the charged stab, which you already know from phase 1, and after the inflated stomp attack.
