For Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar Games, the makers of GTA 5, have created a huge, living game world. On the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, this naturally invites you to get up to all kinds of mischief, aside from the captivating story. However, those who go too wild will quickly send hero Arthur Morgan to his virtual death. Be it because the armament is too bad or the sheriffs hunt you down mercilessly.
With the cheats that you can activate in the game, however, you can let off steam as you please without fearing too bad consequences. We'll tell you which cheats are available, how to activate them and what you have to keep in mind.
All cheats are of course valid for the PC version of RDR2 released on 05 November 2019.
How to activate cheats in RDR2 on PC, PS4 & Xbox One
Rockstar Games has created a separate submenu for the cheats. You can open it by pausing the game and then clicking on the settings.
There you only have to press the triangle key on the PlayStation 4 , the Y key on the Xbox One and the LEFT SHIFT key on the PC. After that, you'll find yourself in the cheat menu, where you can enter the cheat codes. The upper and lower case is not important here.
However, there are a few things to keep in mind here:
- In addition to cheats that don't require unlocking, there are also those that only become available during the course of the game. You can find out what these are and what requirements are necessary in the list below. You can unlock these cheat codes by buying certain issues from the newsboys.
- Once you activate a cheat, you will no longer be able to collect Trophies or Achievements. Also, Red Dead Redemption 2 will no longer allow you to save. You should therefore create a save game before you start cheating.
- Once you have activated a cheat, you can turn it on and off at any time.
Where do you get the newspapers to unlock cheats in RDR2?
As mentioned, certain cheats can only be unlocked by buying the necessary newspaper edition. However, these sellers are marked with a corresponding icon on the map. You can find the corresponding paperboys here:
- New Hanover Gazette: Keep your eyes open in Annesburg and Valentine.
- Saint Denis Times: You can buy this newspaper in Saint Denis and Rhodes.
- Blackwater Ledger: The paper is available in Blackwater (note the constant search level here) and in Strawberry.
Cheats without unlock requirements
Now that you know how to activate cheats, we'll first tell you the ones you can use from the beginning. By the way, the codes are the same for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
- Code: greed is now a virtue
Effect: your account balance will increase by 500 dollars.
- Code: guide me better
Impact: this unlocks Dead Eye level 1, which will automatically mark targets. - Code: make me better
Impact: This will unlock Dead Eye level 2, allowing you to mark targets manually. - Code: i shall be better
Effect: This unlocks Dead Eye level 3. If you have fired a shot in Dead Eye mode, the mode will remain active. - Code: i still seek more
Effect: This unlocks Dead Eye level 4. Red Dead Redemption 2 highlights deadly hit zones in slow motion. - Code: i seek and i find
Effect: This unlocks Dead Eye level 5. In addition to the deadly hit zones, the game now also shows you critical hit zones in color.
- Code: you flourish before you die
Effect: Use this code to ensure that your health, stamina, and dead eye are completely replenished. - Code: seek all the bounty of this place
Effect: With this code you extend the bars for health, stamina and dead eye. - Code: be greedy only for foresight
Effect: This code gives you unlimited Dead Eye. - Code: you want punishment
Effect: You increase your bounty. - Code: you want freedom
Effect: You lower your bounty. - Code: you want everyone to go away
Effect: This code removes all bounties and wanted status in all regions and cities. - Code: better than my dog
Effect: After activating this cheat, the range of the whistle you use to summon your horse will increase. The distance between you and the horse can be as long as you want. - Code: run! run! run!
Effect: A racehorse appears next to you.
- Code: you want more than you have
Effect: The best horse in Red Dead Redemption 2 (Arabian) appears next to you. - Code: you want something new
Effect: A random horse appears next to you. - Code: keep your dreams simple

Effect: A stagecoach appears next to you.
- Code: my kingdom is a horse
Effect: With this code you increase the bond to all horses in your possession. - Code: a fool on command
Effect: Arthur Morgan is drunk. - Code: vanity. all is vanity
Effect: From now on, all the outfits available in Red Dead Redemption 2 will be available in your wardrobe. - Code: eat of knowledge
Effect: Arthur Morgan learns all the recipes you can unlock in the game. - Code: share
Effect: With this code you will immediately unlock all the improvements for the gang's camp.
RDR 2 cheats that you unlock through newspapers
After this already long list of immediately available cheats, we'll tell you the ones that you have to unlock via newspapers. We sort them according to the editions.
New Hanover Gazette
The following cheats can be activated as soon as you have bought the New Hanover Gazette with issue number 27. This is available after the mission "Eastward" in chapter 1.
- Code: abundance is the dullest desire
Effect: Arthur Morgan has infinite ammunition in his pocket. - Code: a simple life, a beautiful death
Effect: Arthur gets a slew of standard weapons, namely a Cattleman revolver, a Lancaster repeating rifle and a Springfield rifle. - Code: death is silence
Impact: Arthur gets a slew of silent weapons: Bow, machete, throwing knives, improved throwing knives, poisoned throwing knives, tomahawks, target-seeking tomahawks and incendiary devices. - Code: history is written by fools
Impact: Arthur gets the weapons of a gunslinger: Two-holster, double-action revolver, Schofield revolver and double-barreled shotgun. - Code: balance. all is balance
Effect: This code resets Arthur's honor rating to neutral. - Code: you revel in your disgrace
Effect: The honor value of Arthur drops to the minimum.
The following cheat is available once you have purchased issue 36. This is available once you have completed the mission "The Son of the King" in Chapter 6.
- Code: you seek more than the world offers
Effect: The bars for health, stamina and dead eye are completely filled up and will not be consumed from now on.
The following cheat is available once you have purchased issue 31. This is available once you have completed the mission "The Joys of Civilization" in Chapter 4.
- Code: you long for sight but see nothing
Effect: With this code you will uncover the entire world map.
Saint Denis Times
The following cheat can be activated once you have purchased Saint Denis Times with issue number 46. This is available after completing the "Vanished into Air" mission in Chapter 3.
- Code: greed is american virtue
Effect: Arthur is given heavy weapons, which include a pump action shotgun, a bolt action rifle, a Mauser pistol and a semi-automatic pistol.
The following cheat is available once you have purchased issue number 48. This is available once you have completed the mission "The Pleasures of City Life" in Chapter 4.
- Code: virtue unearned is not virtue
Effect: Arthur's honor rating increases to the maximum.
Blackwater Ledger
The following cheat can be activated once you have purchased the Blackwater Ledger with issue number 65. This is available after completing the "Vanished into Air" mission in Chapter 3.
- Code: greed is american virtue
Effect: Arthur is given heavy weapons, which include a pump action shotgun, a bolt action rifle, a Mauser pistol and a semi-automatic pistol.
The following cheat is available once you have purchased issue 66. This is available once you have completed the mission "The Joys of Civilization" in Chapter 4.
- Code: you long for sight but see nothing
Effect: With this code you will uncover the entire world map.
The following cheat is available once you have purchased issue 68. This is available once you have completed the mission "Dear Uncle Tacitus" in Chapter 5.
- Code: the lucky be strong evermore
Effect: Arthur and his horse have unlimited endurance.
The following cheats can be activated once you have purchased the Blackwater Ledger with issue number 72. This is available after the mission "The Wheel" in Epilogue 1.
- Code: you are a beast built for war
Effect: A war horse appears next to you. - Code: would you be happier as a clown?
Effect: A circus wagon appears next to you.
