Tips on driving aids & other settings in F1 22

Driving aids are a good option for F1 newbies to be able to drive in the ideal line. The brake assistant, the traction assistance and the anti-lock braking system help you during your first laps and give you a feeling for the driving feeling of the individual racing cars.

But don't rest on these settings and deactivate the driving aids as soon as you want to chase best times. Because the aids slow you down and prefer to play it safe instead of taking advantage of the ideal speed. The energy recovery system ERS in particular is rarely put to good use.

If you have the pole position, you should defend it until the end

Customization of the on-screen display

Not only the driving aids can be customized. The on-screen display (OSD) can also be set up according to your wishes. In the corresponding settings menu, any overlays can be placed at certain points, hidden or changed while driving.

Here you should especially activate the virtual rear view mirror, since you can recognize overtaking maneuvers of your opponents faster that way. It's best to play around with all the settings to find the perfect one for you.

You might miss the overview in the cockpit view

Important: Adjust the camera

Another visual point is the preferred camera perspective. While driving, you can switch between the cockpit view and a rear camera. The latter option in particular gives you more of an overview of what's happening on the track, but it also takes away a lot of the flair of F1 22.

You can do some fine-tuning under the menu item "Camera adjustment". Depending on your preferred viewing angle, you can increase or decrease the distance and the field of view. The camera shake can also be completely deactivated.

Best times with the right training

Practice makes perfect! This rule also applies in F1 22. Only by driving will you get a feeling for the vehicles and the tracks. The best way to do this is with the time trial mode. Here you are alone on the track and can test braking points, try out accelerations or study curves in as many laps as you want.

Thanks to a ghost, you can try to beat your previous laps and thus see where mistakes happen and where the last important second can still be extracted.

Once you feel confident enough in the cockpit, dedicate yourself to the different training tasks that await you at each Grand Prix weekend. They are not only good practice, but also offer a lot of variety. For example, you'll have to drive through different gates or not move more than two meters from the ideal line during a complete lap.

Finally, you should dedicate yourself to the career mode. Here you'll be slowly and gently introduced to the many mechanics of F1 22. We recommend starting in Formula 2, since the F2 cars offer more traction and don't reach the top speeds of the top class. In addition, the races are shorter and the rules are simpler.

Whether in solo or online mode, there is always a lot going on on the tracks

The right strategy during the race

Besides all the settings and practice laps, there's a lot to consider during a running Grand Prix. It starts with the starting position and the first pit stop. For example, an overcut is a good opportunity to overtake in the pits. Or change tires if you notice that the current setup doesn't provide enough grip.

Also pay attention to the drag reduction system (DRS). It is the most important aspect that determines your chance of overtaking. Keep a distance of less than one second to the opponent in front to activate the adjustable rear wing and start the overtaking maneuver - don't hesitate too long.

Pay attention to tire wear during the race. The more you steer, the more the tires wear. Therefore, always drive calmly and avoid unnecessary steering back and forth. You should also avoid curbs as much as possible. Although they are less slippery than in F1 2021, they still represent a danger that should not be underestimated. Depending on the height of the curbs, they can even damage the undercarriage of the F1 racer.

Overtaking maneuvers can quickly become dangerous.
