Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: This is what's new in the booster track pass

Finally, there's something new for all fans of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe! Thanks to the Booster Track Pass, you can prove how much gasoline flows in your blood on 48 brand-new tracks. But how does the new DLC actually work? In this guide you'll find out:

  • What you can expect in the DLC
  • Whether all players in online multiplayer need the booster track pass
  • Which tracks are available right from the start ..
  • ... and which ones are still to come

What is the booster track pass and how does it work?

The Booster Track Pass is the first major DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. In total, 48 "new" tracks are added to the racing game. Why we put the "new" in quotes? Because, strictly speaking, these aren't really new tracks - they're just new to the game.

As with the previous tracks, Nintendo has used the large portfolio of racing games from the Mario universe, spiced them up a bit visually, and added Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. You will therefore find tracks from Mario Kart Tour, Mario Kart DS or Mario Kart 64, among others.

Once you install the booster track pass and start Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, you'll notice that you can't immediately put all 48 tracks through their paces. This is because the new content will be released in several waves. At release, there will be two new Cups with four tracks each.

By the end of 2023, there will be a total of six such waves. It is not yet known when the second wave will be released. Nintendo has only revealed the names of the Cups so far.

But don't worry, you won't have to buy each wave separately. You'll pay a one-time fee of 24.99 euros and then automatically receive the new tracks as soon as they're released. If you want to play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in online multiplayer with friends or family, it's enough if only one of them has the booster track pass. Once he or she starts the game, the others can join in and drive all the new tracks.

After that, you can continue directly in the Lucky Cat Cup, which consists of the following tracks:

  • Tokyo Tempo Tour (known from Mario Kart Tour)
  • Mushroom Pass (known from Mario Kart DS)
  • Cloud Track (known from Mario Kart: Super Circuit)
  • Ninja Dojo (known from Mario Kart Tour)

On the Cloud Track, you'll race through the course at dizzying heights.

Drive new tracks even without a booster track pass!

Actually, you don't even have to buy the DLC. If you play a global or regional race online, you canyou can also enjoy testing the new tracks via the rotation principle. However, it is due to chance when a new track is included. You cannot select the new courses manually.
