General tips before starting

The Build Order we present to you here is not set in stone, of course, and allows you to experiment with the different races. It is more of a guide to what you should focus on if you want to reach the different ages quickly. However, always keep an eye on your enemy and react to them when necessary.

It won't do you much good if your opponent tears your village apart with light infantry and decimates your villagers. This will set you back more than pausing the build order and investing something in defense. Just keep track of your resources.

Also, always research technologies when the resources are available. Concentrate on the researches that speed up the mining of materials or give bonuses to your troops.

Build fields directly next to your mill to save unnecessary walking.

AoE 4: Build order for the fast advancement to the feudal era

The key to reaching the next age is food and gold. Therefore, you should make sure that enough mines are available and fields are cultivated.

To quickly exit the Dark Ages, you should do the following:

  • Send all your villagers (usually six) to the sheep for food.
  • Recruit three more villagers.
  • Send your scout to find more sheep.
  • Build a hut with the first villager you recruit, then send him to the nearby gold mine and build a mining camp there. Also send the other villagers who don't have a task yet to the gold vein.
  • Recruit two more villagers and have them build a lumberjack camp.

Now you should have enough resources to advance to the feudal era. The two villagers who are cutting down trees at that moment are enough to build the landmark.

Here stones and gold are so close to each other that one mine is enough

Next stop: The age of chivalry

Once your landmark is in place, you should actually have almost everything you need to advance to the Knight Era. But don't forget your enemies. If enemy scouts patrol your borders or the first small squads of soldiers bother you, build a barracks and recruit your first units. A tower near your mines can't hurt either.

If everything goes smoothly, this should be your building order for the next advancement:

  • Send the two villagers who built the landmark back to logging.
  • Build a windmill by the berry bushes. This will back you up if your sheep run low.
  • Recruit two more villagers and send them to the gold mine.
  • As soon as you have enough resources, build the landmark for the next ascent. Again, two villagers are enough. If you choose a defensive building, make sure it protects your mines and your lumberjacks.

Your decisions before advancing to the Imperial Age in Age of Empires 4

The further building order will be determined by the decision, how you want to win in Age of Empires 4. There are the following victory conditions:

  • Destroy all the landmarks of the opponents
  • Capture all sacred sites
  • Build a wonder of the world

For the first two victory conditions you need a powerful army. Therefore, before you advance to the next epoch, you should start increasing your troops.

The landmarks of the enemy are his first village center as well as the built landmarks by their advancement to the next ages. If you have destroyed these and no enemy villager works or repairs any of the buildings, the enemy is considered defeated.

If, on the other hand, you want to capture all the holy sites, you will need not only a powerful army to defend them, but also religious units such as priests or monks. Take and hold all three control points on the map for a certain period of time and you'll win the entire game.

Destroy all the landmarks of the opponents.

For the last victory option, you must reach the Imperial Age. Only in this era is the construction of a wonder of the world available to you. Once the construction is complete, all enemies will be notified and the location of the building will be marked on the map. Now you have to make sure that no enemy destroys it for another 15 minutes - only then you will have won.

Building order for the Imperial Age

To quickly reach the Imperial Age, you should proceed as follows:

  • Recruit five villagers and build a miners' camp next to a stone vein.
  • The resources for advancing to the next age should not be long in coming. Therefore, build some defensive walls. Also use wooded areas, since enemy troops can't pass through them. On the other hand, if you plan to destroy the enemy or occupy the holy places, you should already build some troops. Especially cannons will help you against enemy artillery.
  • Before advancing to the next age, build a marketplace. It will help you to exchange surplus resources for needed materials.
  • If you plan to build a wonder of the world, strengthen your walls and rely mainly on ranged units. Build it as soon as you reach the Imperial Age and choose a well-protected place next to your Stable, Barracks or other buildings to recruit units.

Use the territory to better protect yourself from attacks
