In our guide to League of Legends: Wild Rift you will learn:

  • What differences there are to the PC version
  • What has been changed in the items
  • How to get new champions
  • Which champions are the most beginner-friendly

League of Legends: Wild Rift is a mobile adaptation of the successful MOBA League of Legends. However, there are some differences that make the mobile game much more beginner-friendly than the PC version. In this guide, we won't go into the general gameplay of LoL, as we already did in our League of Legends guide, but will highlight the differences between the two games and give tips that explicitly relate to League of Legends: Wild Rift.

How is LoL Wild Rift different from the PC version?

Since this is a game on a smartphone, there are bound to be changes to the controls. Accordingly, all controls are to be performed by touch on the screen. Simplifying elements, such as the automatic attacking of enemies, help you follow the gameplay better on the small screen. This is a supportive mechanic, especially for beginners.

If you click on the attack button, your character will attack the next enemy that is in your range. If you hold down the attack button, you can set a target that will be automatically attacked by you throughout the game. However, you will not attack until the target is within range. With another click on the attack button, your character will automatically run to the enemy.

Your Last Hits still play an important role in LoL Wild Rift, but there are small changes here as well. Last Hit is the death blow that you give to an enemy. Compared to the PC version, you get more gold with each last hit. However, it is enough for an enemy to die near you to receive gold as well.

Last hits in League of Legends: Wild Rift bring about four times more gold than the death of an enemy that merely died near you. Landing a Last Hit has also become easier. The enemy with the fewest health points will be automatically targeted by your character. Just keep moving and tracking your target as you continue to attack them.

The new way of handling gold ensures that matches are played faster and remain more balanced. While your opponents can gain a quick advantage by dominating a lane in the PC version, earning gold indirectly in the mobile version ensures that they don't immediately leave you uncatchable.

What are the differences in items?

One of the biggest differences between League of Legends and LoL Wild Rift is in the items. There are no potions, nor are there "Dorans items" that you normally start a round with. There is only one item that you can actively use: your shoes. Clicking on them will increase your movement speed for a short time.

If you are not familiar with the items, League of Legends: Wild Rift will give you a recommendation.

An enchantment of shoes will, for example, give you a shield or make you invulnerable. Support items, such as Jungle items and Mythic items, are also not available in LoL Wild Rift. You will recognize many familiar items, but they have adapted stats or other special features. Therefore, pay close attention to what you buy.

How do I get champions in League of Legends: Wild Rift?

Of the total 152 champions, only 47 are available in the mobile version. However, more champions will be added gradually. You can buy new champions with the in-game currency or with real money. During a certain period of time, some champions can be played for free. You also get new characters with each new level. You can find out which one suits you best on the official League of Legends: Wild Rift website.

Characters are unlocked as you level up.

League of Legends: Wild Rift can be linked to your LoL account on the PC. However, you will only share your friends list, but not your champions or your gold. Skins for your characters or emotes and cosmetic content can be purchased with real money, just like champions. However, the mobile game can also be played completely without purchases within the app and thus does without Pay2Win.

Which characters are suitable for beginners?

Midlane

Annie, accompanied by her both cute and deadly teddy bear Tibbers, is among the most simplistic characters for Midlane. Many of her abilities have long range and require no additional aiming water to hit the enemy. With additional stuns on every fourth spell, she drives enemy players crazy.

Choose her first ability to throw a fireball at your opponents. It will bring you extra mana every time you are responsible for the Last Hit of an enemy champion. The second ability is an area attack with fire triggered in front of her. With the third ability, you create an absorbing and reflecting shield.

When the shield is active and your enemies attack, the damage on them is reversed while you remain unharmed. Annie's last and ultimate ability is the summoning of Tibbers, who joins in on the action for half a minute and deals additional damage. In addition to Annie, Ahri or Lux also make good beginner-friendly characters for the midlane.

Toplane

Malphite can take a lot of attacks before he gets hit. If he doesn't take any damage for eight seconds, he gets a shield that further increases his defense. This makes him especially attractive for beginners. He makes up for his lack of mobility with very understandable and simple abilities. The first ability hurls a disc that additionally slows down your opponents.

The second ability grants you armor that increases your damage by six seconds once activated. The third ability deals area damage around Malphite, and the last ability is when he charges at enemy champions, throwing them into the air upon collision. Champions like Garen or Fiora are just as good for starting on the toplane.

Jungler

Master Yi doesn't require precision attacks or wild combos from you. Passively, he deals additional damage with every fourth attack. His abilities make him unattackable for a short time, heal himself, give him more attack damage, and he can also increase his attack speed with his ultimate ability. Graves, Xin Zhao, and Lee Sin are equally well suited for the Jungler role.

AD Carry (Damage Dispenser)

Right at the beginning, you can choose Jinx as your first AD Carry. The AD-Carry is a champion who can deal a lot of damage, but can't take much damage. Jinx attacks have a long range and her playstyle is easy to understand. If she defeats a hero or brings down a tower, she gets more movement and attack speed.

The first ability switches weapons between the Rocket Launcher and the Mini-Gun. The Rocket Launcher deals area damage and consumes mana when attacking. The Mini-Gun attacks faster, but does less damage in comparison. Their remaining abilities are a variety of different attacks that deal even more damage.

Supporter (Supporter)

Blitzcrank is a strong supporter who also has a high defense. If his health drops below 35 percent, he gains a shield that grants him additional defense. With his abilities, he pulls enemies towards him, throws them into the air or silences enemy champions with an area attack. Silenced enemies are unable to use an ability.

His second ability also increases his attack and movement speed for four seconds. Beginners in particular can practice skill shots with his first ability, pulling enemies over. Supporters Sona, Soraka, and Braum are equally well-suited for early game play, but must first be unlocked.
