PlayStation Showcase 2021: All highlights at a glance

On September 9, 2021, Sony held a PlayStation Showcase that showcased a whole bunch of high-profile games that will be released on the PlayStation 5 in the next few years.

We'll tell you which surprises and highlights Sony had in store.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Remake

Sony opened the PlayStation Showcase right out of the gate with a bang, announcing the long-awaited remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

The remake of the classic role-playing game is not being developed by the original developer Bioware, but by Aspyr, who have already ported several older Star Wars titles - such as Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Star Wars: Episode I Racer or Star Wars: Republic Commando - to modern systems in recent years.

In contrast to these rather simple ports, however, the remake of Knights of the Old Republic will be developed from scratch, while remaining as close as possible to the original story.

There is no release date yet, but it has already been confirmed that the remake will only be released for PS5 and PC at launch. A conversion for the Xbox Series X could follow at a later date.

Project Eve

Project Eve is strongly reminiscent of games like Devil May Cry or Bayonetta. You can expect fast-paced third-person melee action against disgusting enemies.

Earth has been taken over by an alien race called NA:tives and humanity has been banished. You return as Eve and try to reclaim the planet. You fight your way through the ruins of an abandoned city with the help of combo skills and spectacular finisher moves.

The action game is also said to rely heavily on the haptic feedback of the PS5's Dualsense controller, letting you feel the cuts of your blade as well as the abilities.

Forspoken

Square-Enix developer studio Luminous Productions is currently developing the action game Forspoken for PS5 and PC.

You play Frey, who was just in New York and suddenly lands in the fantasy land of Athia. There she meets all kinds of monsters and the so-called Tantas. These are malevolent and all-powerful matriarchs who rule over Athia.

Frey receives support from a magical bracelet that can not only speak, but also brings supernatural abilities. She can use it to send the numerous monsters to the afterlife.

The large areas, which you can seemingly explore freely thanks to Frey's new abilities like a magic grappling hook, are particularly impressive.

Marvel's Wolverine

Probably the biggest surprise at the PlayStation Showcase was the announcement of Marvel's Wolverine, in which you slip into the skin of the famous mutant.

The game is being developed at Insomniac Games under the direction of Brian Horton (Creative Director) and Cameron Christian (Game Director), who were also responsible for Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Since the game is still in a very early stage of development, there wasn't much to see except for a short teaser, so a release date wasn't mentioned yet.

Gran Turismo 7

The racing simulation Gran Turismo 7 finally has a release date: On March 4, 2022, you can get behind the wheel on PS4 and PS5 and race for the best times.

The new trailer once again flexes the graphics muscles and shows how good the racing game will look on the PS5. You can also take a first look at the numerous customization options for your cars.

So that you can also share your pretty luxury cars with the community, Gran Turismo 7 offers an extensive photo mode, where you can even adjust details like the car's driving speed or headlights and turn signals on demand.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Marvel's Wolverine wasn't the only Insomniac Games title on display at the PlayStation Showcase. Much of the team from the first Spider-Man game is currently working on Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

After their respective solo adventures, Peter Parker and Miles Morales are now competing together - against none other than Venom. Although a co-op game might be a good idea with two main characters, it was confirmed on the official PlayStation Blog that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will once again be a single-player experience.

Info on the open world and gameplay innovations will likely follow over the course of the next year.

God of War Ragnarok

After the first teaser at last year's PlayStation Showcase, it was quiet for a long time about the new God of War. Now Sony has finally let the cat out of the bag and shown us what to expect in God of War Ragnarok in a detailed gameplay trailer.

Ragnarok and with it the last great war between gods and giants is just around the corner. After the end of the last part, Kratos' son Atreus wants to find out who he really is and what the prophecy about Loki is all about.

You will once again take on the role of Kratos and, together with Atreus, face the Norse goddess Freya, who is looking for revenge for the murder of her son, and the thunder god Thor.

The trailer shows huge areas that you'll explore, even a bustling city is among them. While in the last part you could only visit six of the nine worlds, in God of War Ragnarok you will travel to all nine worlds - including Vanaheim, Svartalfheim and Asgard.
