What types of infected are there in Back 4 Blood?

There are three types of infected:

  • Regular Infected
  • Special Infected
  • Boss Infected

The regular infected are standard zombies, as you know them from pop culture. They run at you and hit you with their fists. Most of them can withstand very little and usually attack in groups. Individual infected pose no threat, but on the highest difficulty level they do massive damage with just a few hits.

Some infected are armored.

Some common infected wear special clothing such as police body armor. These withstand a bit more, but can be finished off with a few well-aimed shots in the back.

What special infected are there?

The parasite has turned some infected into fearsome mutants. In total, there are four classes of special infected. All but three of the Special Infected have glowing orange weak spots on their bodies.

By the way, did you know that you can control the Special Infected yourself in Swarm Mode? We'll give you tips on how to fight as a zombie in our guide.

The Stinger class

The Stingers are four-armed zombies with low health but good acrobatic skills. Among other things, they can cling to walls and jump very high. There are three Stinger subclasses.

Stinger

The regular Stinger spits corrosive acid projectiles at you. Stingers usually hide in the environment and only come out of their lair for brief moments to spit on you. Keep moving constantly during such moments so that you don't get hit by all the projectiles. Their weak point is located on the chest.

Stool

This subspecies behaves similarly to the regular Stinger, but instead of acid, it spits a sticky biomass. This traps you in place - you can only free yourself with a stun gun or if you have the "Escape" card equipped. Otherwise you can only be freed by your fellow players. The biomass causes constant damage, so you should free trapped teammates as soon as possible.

The weak point of the stool is also on the chest.

Stingers can be recognized by their four arms.

Stalker

Stalkers, unlike their blood relatives, specialize in melee combat. They attack you with a jump attack and then try to drag you away from the other survivors. Stalkers pose a great danger, especially to players roaming alone. Their weak point is on their head.

The Reeker Class

Reekers are fat zombies that attack you in close combat and always explode when they die! Their guts are corrosive, so always keep Reeker infected at a distance. There are three Reeker subclasses.

Reeker

These are very thick, armored zombies that attack you in close combat. Their goal is for you to make them explode so that they cover you with slime. This slime does not cause any direct damage, but it attracts infected people. Gain some distance and kill Reeker from a distance so you don't get hit by the slime.

Exploder

Exploders rely on a suicide attack where they run at you and explode. If an Exploder comes at you, you should try to dodge instead of killing it. Also, don't use melee weapons, as the explosion does a tremendous amount of damage. The weak point is on the belly.

Keep as much distance as possible from Retches

Retch

Retches barf at you with a very damaging acid beam. Their beam has a long range, so you should keep moving when you hit a Retch. After the vomit attack, there will also be puddles of acid left on the ground that can still damage you. Most of the time, Retches spawn on higher levels from where they can spit down - so keep an eye on rooftops when characters give a Retch warning.

Their weak point is on their head.

The Tallboy Class

Tallboys are large zombies with a mutated giant arm. They can withstand a lot and also deal a lot of damage - but they are quite slow. Again, there are three subclasses.

Tallboy

The Tallboy attacks you with his mutated arm. When he gets close enough to you, he starts to lash out with his arm. Its weak point is on the right shoulder. However, Tallboys will intentionally turn their arm away when you try to shoot at the weak spot. Circle the tallboy with your teammates and fire continuously at the shoulder.

Bruiser

Bruisers are, in effect, simply a stronger variant of the normal Tallboy. However, Bruisers perform an attack where they quickly hit the ground with their arm several times in a row in a large area. This attack deals tremendous damage and flings you back - so keep your distance from the Bruiser. The weak spot is also on the right shoulder.

Bruisers can also be recognized by their darker color.

Crusher

Crushers attack you with their tentacles and then crush you. You can only free yourself with the help of a stun gun or the "Escape" card. Otherwise, your teammates will have to do it. However, since the Crusher can only crush one player at a time and doesn't fight while it's doing so, it doesn't really become a threat if you stay together.

His weak point is at the neck.

Sleeper and Snitcher

While Stingers, Reekers and Tallboys appear in every level, these infected only appear on certain maps. They also differ from the other special infected in the way they attack.

Sleeper

Sleepers can't move and basically function like a trap. They are attached to walls in biomass capsules and jump at you when you approach the capsule. They usually hang out in hard-to-see places like dark alleys or in unimportant-seeming side rooms. Unless you have a stun gun or the "escape" ability, only teammates can free you from a Sleeper.

Sleepers are easy to miss in dark alleys.

Snitcher

Snitch is English slang and means "traitor" - and that's exactly what the Snitcher do. As soon as they notice you, they scream loudly, attracting a large horde of infected. Snitches are blind, but they react to sounds and fire. If you fire a weapon further away from a Snitcher, the Snitcher will move in that direction.

Snitcher will scream if you shoot at them or get too close to them.

Snitcher move slowly through areas and do not attack you automatically. It's best to shoot a Snitcher all at once to kill it before it can scream. You can use melee weapons to stun Snitchers and prevent them from screaming. However, if you don't want to take any chances, you can also try sneaking past them.

What are the boss infected in Back 4 Blood?

You will also encounter strong boss infected during the campaign. At this point, we'll issue a spoiler warning.

The Hag

The Hag only wanders around on some maps and does not actively attack you. However, as soon as a player attacks the Hag or otherwise startles it, the message "Player (name) has startled the Hag" will appear. She then ignores the rest of the team and focuses only on the player who startled her. If she grabs the player, she will devour him and then try to bury him in the ground - if she succeeds, the eaten player is dead.

The Hag probably hasn't quite digested her last meals yet.

You can only save the eaten player by doing enough damage to the Hag. The weak spot is on its back. By the way, players with the "Escape" ability can free themselves from the Hag's grips.

Basically, you should avoid fights with Hags, as it carries a high risk and also wastes a lot of ammunition and resources. However, if a fight is unavoidable, grenades and Molotov cocktails work especially well. Before attacking the Hag, you should also select a player to startle it and then lure it away so that the other team members can shoot it at the weak spot in its back. Ideally, it should be a player with good sprint speed stats.

The Ogre

The Ogre is a house-sized colossus with a large health bar. These boss infected will attack you with butterfly attacks or throw huge lumps of flesh at you. If you hide in a room or building, ogres will reach through the door with their hand - if they catch you, they will pull you out and throw you against the wall. So always stay away from doors when an ogre is nearby.

To defeat the ogre, all survivors must concentrate their fire on it.

Once the health bar is reduced to half, the ogre will try to bury himself. If you don't manage to kill him by then, he will reappear at a later point in the level. Fire at his chest with everything you have - that's where his weak spot is. Killing him in the first encounter will make the rest of the level easier. Therefore, don't be afraid to use grenades and other powerful equipment.

The Breaker

The Breaker is a muscular zombie that attacks you in close combat. He moves quite slowly, but can also cover medium distances with jump attacks. However, you don't need any special tactics - keep your distance and shoot at its weak points on the chest and leg. In the end, the Breaker is just a stronger Reeker that doesn't explode.

Breakers are absolutely deadly in close combat.

The Abomination

In the end, you get to face the Abomination - a gigantic parasite that lives underground. However, the fight is more like an event than a real boss fight. In the first part of the fight, fire at the pustules in its mouth and dodge the tentacles. Once you've done enough damage, the abomination will flee.

In the next stage, you'll just have to chase it down and finish the job. Shoot all its weak points before the time limit is over. Once you've done that, the abomination will die and you'll be rewarded with a final sequence.
