Monster Hunter Rise: All monsters in one list

With Monster Hunter Rise and the Sunbreak DLC, Capcom has made its popular Monster Hunter series compatible for the Switch. As usual, you'll have to go monster hunting and collect the remains of the gigantic critters to upgrade your armor - and thus be able to kill even bigger monsters. If you have already played the other parts of the series, you might even recognize one or the other primeval monster. In our guide you will learn:

  • Which monsters there are in Monster Hunter Rise at all
  • What types they belong to
  • What their strengths and weaknesses are

Amphibian

Tetranadon

This chubby amphibian, which is a whimsical mix of frog, duck and turtle, makes its debut in Monster Hunter Rise. In accordance with its affiliation, its preferred habitat is near water. As you can see, there's plenty of room in the monster's belly - for example, for rocks, which the Tetranadon first eats and then spits at you.

  • Known from:Monster Hunter Rise
  • Element: Water
  • Strengths: Water damage
  • Weaknesses: Thunder, Fire

Arachnid

Rakna-Kadaki

This Arachnid is also one of the new monsters in the Capcom series. The spider-like animal prefers to live in lava caves. You should be especially careful of its mouth, because Rakna-Kadaki spits around with spider webs - even more than one. And once you're spidered, it will even ignite its webs. Nasty! Besides, it always carries its brood with it, which will attack you on command.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise
  • Element: Fire
  • Strengths: Fire damage, spinning in
  • Weaknesses: unknown

Pyre Rakna Kadaki

The Pyre Rakna Kadaki is incendiary due to several things. First, it can shoot explosive eggs that cause damage in a large area. Secondly, he can spin you in with his threads. If you're afraid of spiders, you'd better stay away from this fight!

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak
  • Element: Fire
  • Strengths: Fire, spinning in
  • Weaknesses: Water, Ice

Fishwyvern

Jyuratodus

A funny fish, this Jyuratodus. It has several fins of different sizes growing on it. When fighting him, you have to see if he is covered in mud or not. The mud coat protects it from your attacks. Also, try to fight him away from water, otherwise he will take advantage of the habitat.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter: World
  • Element: Water
  • Strengths: Water damage, dirt
  • Weaknesses: Thunder (without mud), ice, dragon, fire, water (when covered by mud)

Flying Wyvern

Barioth

If something has an affinity for ice, what do you think is its greatest enemy? That's right, fire! While Barioth relies on snow tornadoes, you can counter with fire or lightning damage. But be on your guard: a Barioth is pretty darn fast!

  • Known from: Monster Hunter 3
  • Element: Ice
  • Strengths: Snow, ice damage
  • Weaknesses: Fire and thunder damage

Basario's

This rocky contemporary is not a newcomer to Monster Hunter Rise. He should be familiar to fans of the series. The dragon doesn't make the fight easy for you, as it is well armored and also has a lot of fire breath. By the way, he also has poison and sleeping gas up his sleeve.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter
  • Element: Fire
  • Strengths: Poison, sleep, fire damage
  • Weaknesses: Water (on the belly)

Diablos

Is there even a Monster Hunter part that didn't feature Diablos? Actually, this giant is almost part of the inventory. Before his thundering tail, with which he can beat you to a pulp, as well as the gigantic horns, you should meet him with the utmost caution. By the way: this bad-tempered resident can also be seen in the Monster Hunter film adaptation.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter
  • Element: none
  • Strengths: none
  • Weaknesses Ice, water, dragon, thunder

Khezu

A mouth on two legs - this could be the most fitting short description of this monster. Because that's all it is. At the end of the long neck sits a head, which consists only of teeth. One looks for eyes with the creature in vain. But where the creatures live, in the absolute darkness of caves, they do not need them. They know their abode for it inside out and are able to attack their hunters from the ceiling.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter
  • Element: Thunder
  • Strengths: Paralysis
  • Weaknesses: Fire

Lucent Nargacuga

This evolution of the Nargacuga has several advantages over its "normal" relative. It can become invisible and deals poison damage with the spikes on its tail.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
  • Element: Ice
  • Strengths: Poison
  • Weaknesses: Ice, Dragon, Fire

Nargacuga

His weapon is his entire body! Its wings are razor sharp, and the tip of its tail is just waiting to pierce the hunters in Monster Hunter Rise. The best way to counter the beast is with fire or thunder damage. Otherwise, it looks bad for you ..

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
  • Element: none
  • Strengths: unknown
  • Weaknesses: Thunder, Fire

Rathalos

Another old acquaintance: Rathalos! There hasn't been a game so far in which he hasn't been involved. Thus, he can't be missing in Monster Hunter Rise either. His strengths are undoubtedly the poison and fire attacks from the air. Besides, there isn't one place where you'll find him, but he feels at home just about everywhere. So you should never lose sight of the sky ..

  • Known from: Monster Hunter
  • Element: Fire
  • Strengths: Poison, fire damage, confusion
  • Weaknesses: Dragon, Thunder, Water, Ice

Rathian

This flying wyvern is the female counterpart to Rathalos. Her strength is fire breath and fighting on the ground. Now imagine the two of them fighting together - one from the air and one from the ground. Wait, that's exactly what they do ....

  • Known from: Monster Hunter
  • Element: Fire
  • Strengths: Poison, fire damage
  • Weaknesses: Dragon, Thunder, Water, Ice

Tigrex

Yes, look at that, a flying T-Rex. Numerous monster hunters have cut their teeth on him in previous games. Will it be better in Monster Hunter Rise? Probably not, but as we all know, the Capcom series thrives on challenges.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Freedom 2
  • Elements: none
  • Strengths: Snow (snow mountains and tundra), water damage (wet ground), ice damage (icy ground)
  • Weaknesses: Thunder, Dragon

Seregios

Everything that glitters is dangerous. Wait, that's not how the saying goes. But it does apply to the Seregios. This Wyvern has golden scales and is extremely agile. It also causes bleeding, which you shouldn't underestimate in battle.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
  • Elements: none
  • Strengths: Bleeding
  • Weaknesses: Thunder, Ice

Espinas

In contrast to its dangerous appearance, the Espinas is rather peaceful - however, should it be provoked, it fights back with fire attacks and poison.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Frontier Season 2
  • Elements: Fire
  • Strengths: Poison, Paralysis
  • Weaknesses: Ice

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Generations
  • Elements: Thunder
  • Strengths: Thunder damage, paralysis
  • Weaknesses: Water, Ice

Battle Wyvern

Anjanath

This monster is not only into fire, it's also pretty damn fast! That's a dangerous combination, as those who have played through Monster Hunter: World have played through. Watch out for the huge taps that the Anjanath leaves on the ground - and keep a close eye on the thicket around you!

  • Known from: Monster Hunter: World
  • Element: Fire
  • Strengths: Fire damage
  • Weaknesses: Water, Thunder, Ice, Dragon

Barroth

To call this monster a real thick-skull wouldn't even be an exaggeration. In general, it's quite a tough nut to crack, because its armor protects the Barroth from quite a lot of damage. A little tip: Try a hammer! It can work wonders on the Klops.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter 3
  • Element: none
  • Strengths: Dirt, water damage
  • Weaknesses: Water (on mud), fire (on armor), ice

What a stubborn ...

Leviathan

Almudron

Welcome to the Monster Hunter universe! The Almudron is one of the new additions to the Switch version. Similar to the Jyuratodus, this monster loves to wallow in the mud. Just beware of the Leviathan's tail, because it can unfold it to gigantic size and use it to throw mud at you.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise
  • Element: Water
  • Strengths: Water damage, dirt
  • Weaknesses: unknown

Leviathan

Magma Almudron

This Almudron is the exact opposite of its relatives: Instead of water and dirt, he controls magma. This makes him particularly dangerous - especially if you enter his territory.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise
  • Element: Water
  • Strengths: Water damage, dirt
  • Weaknesses: unknown

Mizutsune

This monster can fire bubbles at its enemies, which it produces with its mouth and fur. Once hit, you will be temporarily unable to move. In addition, a Mizutsune knows how to spit out a hard jet of water that causes significant damage to you. Actually, these monsters are comparatively peaceful, but when it's mating season, the male animals stop having fun!

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Generations
  • Element: Water
  • Strengths: Water damage, bubbles
  • Weaknesses: Thunder, Dragon

King Ludroth

You could just call this monster Spongebob Spongehead, because a large part of its body can soak up water like a sponge. And then the beast expertly uses it against you. So when you fight a King Ludroth, pull it far away from the water. Very far!

  • Known from: Monster Hunter 3
  • Element: Water
  • Strengths: Water damage
  • Weaknesses: Fire, Thunder

Somnacanth

Another newcomer: The Somnacanth is an absolute water rat. And it looks like he's made a deal with a lot of shells. He's only too happy to hurl them at you in order to inflict a nasty effect on you. This effect blinds you, gives you sweet dreams or causes heavy explosion damage.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise
  • Element: unknown
  • Strengths: Sleep, Water Damage, Stun
  • Weaknesses: Unknown

Aurora Somnacanth

This subspecies of Somnacanth likes it rather chilly - and tries to bring that closer to its opponents with ice shots and more.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise
  • Element: Ice
  • Strengths: none
  • Weaknesses: Fire, Thunder

Carapaceon

Shogun Ceanataur

Crabs can't take a joke - especially Shogun Ceanataur. He tries to finish you off with his huge claws and a jet of water. They especially don't like wyverns: the Ceanataurs use their skulls as snail shells.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter 2
  • Element: Water
  • Strengths: Poison
  • Weaknesses: Thunder, Ice

Daimyo Hermitaur

Like the Shogun Ceanataur, the Daimyo Herimtaur wears a Wyvern skull on his back to protect his vulnerable zones. Additionally, he can attack with a water jet as well as his large scissors.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter 2
  • Element: Water
  • Strengths: Water damage, poison
  • Weaknesses: Thunder

Fanged Wyvern

Arzuros

Flattened by an Arzuros - this can happen to you if you stand behind it and don't pay attention. Or he might just ram you through the area with his partly armored side. Or maybe he'll shred you with his claws ... As for his attacks, the monster is a real jack-of-all-trades.

  • Known from Monster Hunter Portable 3rd
  • Element: none
  • Strengths: none
  • Weaknesses: Fire, Ice

Bishaten

This new monster in Monster Hunter Rise shows that fanny packs have never gone out of fashion. Like a kangaroo, Bishaten has his very own fanny pack and carries around his favorite food: fruit. You should beware not only of its agility, but also of its habit of playing tricks on others. And when nothing else helps, it simply fires its food at you!

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise
  • Element: unknown
  • Strengths: Poison, Stun, Paralysis
  • Weaknesses: unknown

Blood Orange Bishaten

This monster is a subspecies of the Bishaten and even more dangerous. This is due to the fire breath it regularly spits in your direction. It also throws pine cones at you, which it lights with its fire breath and then explodes. How nasty!

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak
  • Element: Fire
  • Strengths: Fire Rot
  • Weaknesses: Water

Goss Harag

This monster knows how to use its element. It has the ability to breathe in large amounts of cold air, turn it into water, and then spit on its hands, turning them into razor-sharp weapons. Just don't make him angry, because when he thunders his fists on the ground, he'll unleash shockwaves on you.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise
  • Element: Ice
  • Strengths: Ice damage
  • Weaknesses: Unknown

Lagombi

Thick and ponderous? No way! While his body is mostly protected from the icy cold by thick fur, his belly is hairless. This has the advantage that he can throw himself on it and slither across the cold ground to you in no time.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Portable 3rd
  • Element: Ice
  • Strengths: Ice damage
  • Weaknesses: Fire, Thunder

Magnamalo

What Rathalos was for the first Monster Hunter game, Magnamalo is for Monster Hunter Rise: the face of the new part. There is probably no opponent in the game that reacts faster and sends its enemies to the afterlife. You won't be given a break to catch your breath before Magnamalo comes at you with his next attack - such as hellfire.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise
  • Element: none
  • Strengths: Hellfire damage

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise
  • Element: none
  • Strengths: Hellfire damage
  • Weaknesses: Water, Thunder, Ice

Rajang

A Rajang can't take a joke! One wrong look or accidentally entering his territory and he'll burst his hat. He shoots laser beams out of his mouth, but he'd even rather ram you into the ground without being pointed.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter 2
  • Element: Thunder
  • Strengths: Thunder damage
  • Weaknesses: Ice

Furious Rajang

This Rajang is permanently furious and therefore much stronger than its "normal" relative. In doing so, the damage - both that of their blows and their lightning attacks - increases greatly.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter 2
  • Element: Thunder
  • Strengths: Thunder damage
  • Weaknesses: Ice, Water

Tobi-Kadachi

When it's not leaping through the treetops like a squirrel, it loves to attack you with lightning from its tail. With its flaps of skin between its arms and belly, it can glide longer distances like a flying squirrel.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter: World
  • Element: Thunder
  • Strengths: Thunder damage
  • Weaknesses: Water, Fire, Ice, Dragon

Volvidon

When you're hit by spit that immobilizes you, a Volvidon isn't far behind. And because that's not enough, the armadillo-like monster rolls up into a deadly ball and flattens you.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Portable 3rd
  • Element: none
  • Strengths: paralysis , stench
  • Weaknesses: Water

Zinogre

If you think Zinogre's paws are impressive, you should be even more wary of its tail. If you're not careful, you'll either get the extremity smashed around your ears with full force or be hit by the lightning bolts that the monster can unleash. Zinogre can charge these in two stages: While the first ones don't do too much damage yet, the second wave packs quite a punch.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Portable 3rd
  • Element: Thunder
  • Strengths: Thunder damage, paralysis
  • Weaknesses: Ice

Fang Beast

Lunagaron

The Lunagaron is a wolf-like monster in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak that prefers it cool. For this, it even has its own organ that cools down the air that the Lunagaron breathes. This allows it to survive in all kinds of habitats. Unlike a wolf, the Lunagaron can also stand on two legs. Its attacks are similar to that of the Zinogres, but it also has various ice attacks.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak
  • Element: Ice
  • Strengths: Ice
  • Weaknesses: Thunder

Garangolm

The giant Garangolm feels right at home in regions with fertile soil. Due to its secreted fluids, the plants there grow incredibly fast - or the garangolm uses the plants and soil as armor and weapons, since it can control them with the fluids.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak
  • Element: Fire, Water
  • Strengths: Fire, Water
  • Weaknesses: Thunder

Birdwyvern

Aknosome

Cracking an Aknosome is not that easy. The newcomer in Monster Hunter Rise can use its wings and comb as a shield. However, getting too close to it isn't a good idea either: it has razor-sharp claws on its feet that are just waiting to dig into your guts.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise
  • Element: Fire
  • Strengths: Fire damage
  • Weaknesses: Water, Thunder

Big Baggi

Attention, don't fall asleep! That can easily happen if you get too close to this monster. • Known from: Monster Hunter 3
  • Element: none
  • Strengths: Sleep
  • Weaknesses: Fire

Grandizuchi

A birdwyver rarely comes alone, so in Monster Hunter Rise, it's joined by the Greatizuchi. You see those pointy thumb claws? Then you know what to expect when you encounter him. Oh, and by the way, he's never alone, but always has a few mini versions of himself in company.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise
  • Element: none
  • Strengths: none
  • Weaknesses: unknown

Great Wroggi

When you encounter this beast in Monster Hunter Rise, be sure to have plenty of antidote handy. Because the fangs as well as numerous companions are not the worst thing about the Great Wroggi, but much more the poison breath.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Portable 3rd
  • Element: none
  • Strengths: Poison
  • Weaknesses: Ice

Kulu-Ya-Ku

These bird-like creatures prey on the eggs laid by other monsters. If you encounter them in a neutral environment, the Kulu-Ya-Ku will not attack you directly. However, if you provoke them, they will strike back - for example, by throwing stones at you.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter: World
  • Element: unknown
  • Strengths: unknown
  • Weaknesses: Water, Fire, Thunder, Ice, Dragon

You already know this colleague from Monster Hunter: World.

Pukei-Pukei

If the slobbery drooling tongue is bigger than the animal itself, it can only be a Pukei-Pukei. It carries its food in its mouth and can combine it with poison in battle. Depending on what food it mixes with it, the poison can have different effects. Either way, caution is advised.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter: World
  • Element: none
  • Strengths:Poison
  • Weaknesses: Thunder, fire, ice, dragon

Pukei-Pukei is already known to fans from Monster Hunter: World.

??? monster

  • Known from: Monster Hunter 4
  • Element: none
  • Strengths: Frenzy
  • Weaknesses: Dragon, Fire, Thunder

Dragon Elder

Chameleos

Doesn't it look cute? But be careful, it is unpredictable in battle. Not only does it steal your weapons and other items with its sticky tongue, it can - just like its real-life counterpart - become one with nature and turn invisible.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter 2
  • Element: Dragon
  • Strengths: Poison, stamina negation, defense lowering
  • Weaknesses: Dragon, Fire (Head)

Thunder Snake Narwa

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise
  • Element: Thunder
  • Strengths: Thunder damage
  • Weaknesses: Dragon, Ice

Wind Snake Ibushi

Another newcomer you should be wary of. Instead of thunderous damage, the Wind Snake relies on effective whirlwinds that will mess up more than just your hair!

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise
  • Element: Dragon
  • Strengths: Dragon damage
  • Weaknesses: Dragon, Fire

Malzeno

Now it's getting spooky! The Malzeno is a dragon elder who helps himself to the life energy of other creatures at night. In battle, he wreaks havoc with leech-like monsters - the Qurio - and the Blood Rot.

  • Known from: Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak
  • Element: Dragon
  • Strengths: Dragon Damage
  • Weaknesses: Dragon, Fire

Shagaru Magala

This dragon elder is the adult form of Gore Magala. He has shed the dark exterior and his scales now glow golden. At the same time he has become much stronger and spreads his virus over larger areas. Greatest caution is advised!

  • Known from: Monster Hunter 4
  • Element: none
