On June 24, 2022, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, the ambitious successor to the Switch hit Fire Emblem Warriors, hit the market. The game from the well-known Japanese development studio Omega Force offers a total of three story campaigns, tells a whole story of its own and keeps genre fans entertained for dozens of hours. We have put together this beginner's guide for you so that you can quickly celebrate successes at the beginning of the campaign.

Battle System Tips & Tricks

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes confronts you with hordes of enemies, which you can send to the eternal hunting grounds as quickly as possible if you take the following things to heart in battle:

  • In the heat of the often confusing battles, you quickly run the risk of losing sight of the relevant enemies. To prevent this from happening, you should target bulwark commanders, monsters and other important enemies in your vicinity by pressing the right analog stick. The camera will then stay focused on that exact enemy, and attacks and evasive maneuvers can be timed much more precisely.

If an enemy appears in a yellow glowing circle, you can unleash a devastating attack by pressing the X button near them.

  • Whenever an enemy goes in for a special attack, a red aura builds up around them - in some cases, a rectangular or round red marker also appears on the ground. As soon as these warning signals appear, you should quickly initiate an evasive maneuver and avoid the red area as much as possible, otherwise your character will take considerable damage.
  • Directly below your green health meter is the warrior meter. It is filled by eliminating enemies, collecting yellow potions or taking damage yourself. Once charged, all you need to do is press the A button and your warrior will perform a particularly effective warrior special attack. Tip: It's best to trigger this in an area with a particularly large number of enemies to fully exploit the potential of this devastating attack.

When awakened, it's best to jump right into the fray and clean up the mess.

  • If there is a team member near you, you can appoint him as an adjutant by pressing the left shoulder button in combination with the Y button. This unit will now follow you wherever you go and help fill the adjutant attack meter (a sword icon above the health bar) with successful attacks. Now, when you release a warrior special attack, the linked units will perform it one after the other.
  • Also, regularly replenish the Revival meter by damaging enemies, picking up blue potions, using the Critical Rush maneuver, and/or making use of Adjutant follow-up attacks. As soon as you're charged up, the icon of a warrior raising both arms in the air lights up in the lower right corner of the HUD. By pressing the key combination R A you put your currently active hero into the awakened state and temporarily benefit from a variety of bonuses. For example, your life energy meter can drop in the awakened state, but not to zero.

Internalize the rock-paper-scissors principle

Analogous to the strategy game Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the battles in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes also follow a scissors-and-stone-paper principle. This means that certain types of weapons are superior or inferior to others in battle, which the game depicts with the help of two so-called weapon triangles.

Flying units like these Pegasus riders are weak against archers. If you don't have a bow at hand, you rely on a dense sequence of special attacks as an antidote.

The basic rules of the first weapon triangle: units with lances have an advantage over units with swords. Swordsmen benefit from bonuses when fighting units with axes, and axes are ideal for countering lances.

The rules of the second weapon triangle are at least as relevant. Accordingly, units with iron armor hands have advantages over units that use iron books. The latter, in turn, are the ideal counter to archers, who in turn do very well in duels with iron armor hands. Keyword archers: They are also particularly efficient against flying units such as Pegasus Riders.

The quickest way to see if one of your units has an advantage against another enemy unit is to open the map with the plus key, select the desired unit and drag the cursor to the position of an enemy.

If you see a blue arrow pointing up, the advantage is on your side. If you see a red arrow pointing down, the enemy has the advantage and you should expect them to do more damage. Tip: Advantage indicators are also displayed directly on the battlefield.

Issue situational commands

The partner AI in Fire Emblem Warrior: Three Hopes does a solid job. However, if you want to make sure that everything goes according to plan during a mission, you should still give your fellow players manual commands every now and then.

For example, if the current mission is to get an ally safely from A to B, open the map, select one of your units, click on "Orders", move the cursor to the unit to be escorted and select "Protect".

If you command an attack, the percentage at the bottom of the screen will indicate how likely you are to emerge victorious from the duel.

If you see that the life energy of a fellow combatant is dropping into a critical range, the quickest way to defuse the situation is to use the "Heal" command. Do you want to eliminate an enemy unit before it reaches a certain level? In this case, it's a good idea to order several allies to attack this enemy at the same time.

The command "Complete Offensive" takes a similar approach. Once ordered, all allies will immediately advance on the selected target in order to bring it down. The last option is "Auto-Combat". If you choose the "Attack" option here, the unit will advance on its own, attacking enemy units and bulwarks.

In the "Defend" mode, on the other hand, it behaves defensively and protects allies andbulwarks in its vicinity. The latter makes sense, for example, when the enemy keeps attacking an area and losing it would mean mission defeat.

When giving orders, always keep in mind the aforementioned rock-paper-scissors principle and assemble your team before the match starts so that you can adequately counter all enemy units.

Always check off all side and additional missions

After a short chat with the strategist in the base camp, a map screen will appear, allowing you to choose between different missions. The rule of thumb is to always check the description text of each mission for the expected enemy level and see if you are up to it.

This is especially true in Classic mode when you play with permadeath active. In this case, important characters are lost forever after a screen death.

Many additional quests on the campaign map can only be completed in exchange for certain resources.

Therefore, before you venture into story missions with high-level enemies, you should always complete all side and additional missions of a region first. Also, get into the habit of visiting the settlements in the conquered mission area after a successful battle. Usually, short additional quests await you here, which you can complete in exchange for certain objects.

If, on the other hand, crossed swords are pulsing above an additional quest, you must first win the associated battle before you can collect the reward.

Level up your core team evenly

In battles, get into the habit of regularly switching between playable characters. This way, you'll get to know the move-set of your team-mates better and be able to use it more effectively depending on the enemy type (keyword: "weapon triangle"). On the other hand, you'll make sure that characters other than the main character kill most of the enemies and thus benefit from a juicy experience point bonus at the end of a level.

Provided that you have enough gold, you can level up every comrade-in-arms at the master teacher at lightning speed and thus ensure a balanced team strength.

As a result, if you make sure to change heroes regularly, the experience points you gain will be better distributed among your squad in the end. Nevertheless, sooner or later you'll reach a point where certain characters are significantly behind others in terms of experience level.

To make up for this deficit, pay a visit to the training master in the base camp and use the "Lv.-Up." option there. By paying for additional training sessions, you can raise the level of each character to the maximum level of the most advanced character in the team.

Use combat strategies to gain new allies

Successfully completed side missions and territorial conquests on the campaign map will reward Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes with so-called strategy resources. With enough on hand, you can use strategy resources in the main battle of a chapter to gain powerful, mission-specific advantages.

Use battle strategies to match your play style - and to win over enemy heroes to your cause.

For example, if you activate the "Well Armed" strategy, you'll start the battle with allied bulwarks filled with healing supplies. If you choose the "Fire" strategy, flames will appear in a certain area of a level, damaging enemies throughout.

In many story-related battles, strategy resources can also be used to convince enemy generals to join your army. Important: If you want to poach other heroes, you must not only unlock the corresponding strategy before the level starts, but also activate it in the level at the right moment by holding down the right control pad button.

Aim for high support values

All partner actions in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes are even more effective if the people involved have a high support value. Here are the things you can do to increase the support value of the playable characters:

  • Deliver gifts to your allies, preferably ones that match the character's preferences. You can find out what these are by studying the character's profile in the Unit Information screen. For example, Manuela Casagranda of the Adrestria Empire likes singing, dancing, cooking, needlework, and cool drinks. If you give Manuela a gift related to these topics, the support value increases faster.

If your counterpart likes an answer option, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes will immediately display a small picture of the conversation partner on the left side of the screen, along with a heart symbol.

  • Cook and eat together with your comrades in the camp and also pay attention to their individual preferences, which can be read in the character profile.
  • Go to the work master in the base camp and do volunteer work. The menu below the task menu reveals which characters are ideally suited for which work.
  • If the relationship with a fellow warrior has reached at least support level C, it is possible to persuade this character to join an expedition in exchange for activity points. Choose the correct dialogue answers in the sequences that follow, and the support level will increase. The same applies to correct answers in regular multiple-choice dialogs.
  • In addition, certain maneuvers in combat also cause the support value to increase. These include defeating an enemy general with the help of an aide, successful partner special attacks, and healing an ally with magic.

How to get money quickly

Whether it's leveling up with a master teacher, forging a new weapon, buying gifts and recipe ingredients, or expanding the storage infrastructure - if you want to make quick progress in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, you'll need money. But what to do to keep your war chest well filled? Four things in particular help:

First, smash the wine-red clay pots, which are usually located at the edge of larger battlefield areas, and nearly 150 gold units each will go into your account. The easiest way to find these clay pots is to zoom in on the automap by pressing the left analog stick and look for red clay pot markers.

These wine-red pots can be found on almost all battlegrounds and will instantly give you gold.

Second, flog unnecessary stuff. In the course of the game, your hero will accumulate a lot of things that you can quickly turn into money in the warehouse. For example, selling gold bags at the merchant will bring you almost 2,000 gold units. But also the sale of simple building material (50 gold per piece) and no longer needed weapons can be worthwhile in case of a financial bottleneck.

Before you finally say goodbye to an item, however, you should always check whether it might still be needed. The latter is especially true for building materials and recipe ingredients.

Thirdly, aim for the S rank in battles and complete all side missions. Both of these will result in you being granted a 100% gold bonus upon mission completion. To achieve S-Rank, not only does a fast mission completion time matter, but also taking as little damage and defeating as many enemies as possible.

Fourth, like every great Nintendo title, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes rewards interaction with amiiboo characters. Each day, you can hold up to five compatible amiibo to the NFC sensor on the left Joy-Con or Pro Controller. As a reward, you'll either get new gear (which you can sell) or valuable gold bags.
