Death Stranding tells you an epic story full of interesting characters. Hideo Kojima stages their story in Hollywood-like cutscenes on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. But even beyond the cutscenes, the eccentric game designer provides you with plenty of background information about his action adventure.

In e-mails, interviews and collectibles in the form of memory chips, you can learn a lot about the world of Death Stranding (!). What exactly the memory chips contain and where you can find them, we will show you in this guide.

What are the memory chips in Death Stranding?

The leading scientists of the organization "Bridges" are desperately looking for data from the past to refresh their knowledge of history and to understand connections. This data is contained on memory chips that are scattered across the game world of Death Stranding.

At the beginning of the game, you'll be asked to deliver any memory chips you find to Bridges. Once you've discovered a memory chip, donate it to science via the cargo terminals. After that, you'll have access to the data it contains via your handcuff and personal terminal. In our Death Stranding tips guide, we'll show you how to use this terminal.

You'll find a total of 56 memory chips, packed with interesting background info and details about the game and references to our current pop culture. To locate them in the environment, use the Odradek scanner via the R1 button on your DualShock 4 controller (!) or build a watchtower.

Watchtowers increase the range of your scanner and allow you to find distant memory chips. We'll show you how to build these and other constructions and improve the general infrastructure together in our multiplayer guide to Death Stranding.
