Dying Light 2: Stay Human has been available since February 4, 2022, so we clarify the most important questions about the multiplayer mode. In this guide, we collect all the info around crossplay, co-op and the multiplayer mode in the zombie apocalypse of Dying Light 2.

Does Dying Light 2 support crossplay?

Unfortunately, the short answer is no. At launch, Dying Light 2: Stay Human does not support crossplay. So gamers won 't be able to play together across platforms in the game's online multiplayer.

But: game designer Tymon Smektala rejected crossplay just for now. Literally, he said, "No, not at the moment, it [crossplay] won't be available." So he leaves it open whether Techland might not add cross-play support at a later date.

Will Dying Light 2 support cross-gen multiplayer?

Again, the answer is unfortunately no and there is a "but" here as well. Smektala did confirm that there will be no cross-gen support at launch, but noted that this will only be the case for the launch of Dying Light 2: Stay Human. Cross-gen support is to be added later. When exactly game ends of the PS4 and PS5 version or the Xbox One and Xbox Series version will be able to play together remains to be seen.

Dying Light 2 multiplayer: Does online co-op work with the shortened German version?

Due to the slightly shortened version of Dying Light 2: Stay Human, which will be released in Germany, multiplayer games for German players are limited to participants from Germany. This means that you will not be able to play games with players from other countries if you play the German version.

However, Techland is already working on a solution how players from the different versions (Germany and the rest of the world) can play together in the future. Otherwise, there should be no restrictions for multiplayer games with the German version of Dying Light 2: Stay Human.

Can Dying Light 2 be played through in co-op mode?

Good news for those who don't want to face the zombie apocalypse alone: Dying Light 2 can be played in co-op mode right from release - even with up to four players at the same time. After the tutorial, up to four players can join forces in online co-op and play through the entire story campaign together.

Dying Light 2 Multiplayer: Do all team members keep the game progress?

Since there will be some decisions to make in Dying Light 2: Stay Human that will have a lasting impact on the story and gameplay, there is an important rule for multiplayer teams: If the team disagrees in a situation with several possible solutions, the host of the multiplayer session has the right to make the final decision.

The progress of the game within the campaign is also attributed only to the host. Unfortunately, the rest of the players are left empty-handed in their personal score. However, team members can at least keep the items they have found and their own character progress.
