Ghost of Tsushima Horse: Which mount should I choose?

In our horse guide to Ghost of Tsushima we tell you:

  • Whether your choice of horse will affect the gameplay
  • Whether you can change your horse in the course of the game
  • What the horse names are all about

You will spend most of your time in the large open world of Ghost of Tsushima on horseback. At the beginning of the game you can choose one of three horses. We'll tell you which ones they are and whether this has an impact on the story or the gameplay.

Which horse should I choose in Ghost of Tsushima?

After defeating the Mongols at the stables, you have a choice of three horses in Ghost of Tsushima (). Owners of the Digital Deluxe Edition or the physical Special Edition even get a fourth horse.

  • Black horse
  • White horse
  • Grey horse
  • Brown horse (Deluxe or Special Edition)

The choice is entirely up to your own taste, it has no effect on the gameplay. The Ghost of Tsushima horses have no special status values or abilities. Each horse is equally fast and cannot be killed during battles.

What name should I give my horse?

Once you have chosen a horse in Ghost of Tsushima, you can still give it one of three names:

  • Nobu (Trust)
  • Sora (Heaven)
  • Kage (Shadow)

The choice of name - like the choice of horse - has no effect on the gameplay or story. You will just have to live with the fact that Jin will call his horse by the chosen name throughout the game as soon as you press the left direction button on the PlayStation 4 controller ().

Can I change my horse again (spoiler)?

The chosen horse cannot be switched, so you will be with the chosen horse for a large part of the game. If you don't want to be spoiled, you should definitely stop reading now.

More samurai action for the PlayStation!

Spoilers beware: As the game progresses, you will even be forced to choose a new horse, as your first horse dies in a cutscene. At this point, however, the color and name of the first horse will no longer be available to you.

But don't worry, the horse you choose now will accompany you until the end of the game.
