Paper Mario: The Origami King is the latest adventure of the popular plumber with the red cap and the bushy mustache. Once again you'll save the world from the grips of a nasty villain. This time, the self-proclaimed Origami King Olly has seized power and threatens to fold the entire world to his liking.

You'll defeat Faltschergen, save Toads, solve tricky puzzles and experience the usual fun of a high-class Mario game. Paper Mario: The Origami King was released on July 17 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

Paper Mario: The Origami King - Tips for faster progress

In Paper Mario: The Origami King () there are heaps of holes in the game world that can be repaired with paper scraps. If you don't want to complete the game 100%, you can safely ignore some of them. Apart from a few coins, of which you'll get enough anyway, you won't miss out on anything.

If you run out of snippets, hit a tree with your hammer until your bag is full again. You won't get more snippets anywhere else.

Sneak past folding henchmen or run away from them to avoid a fight. You will only get coins from fights. Story-related actions you either can't avoid, or you'll be alerted to them in a dialog.

Don't hold back on using your weapons. They will break, but their purchase is very cheap. Therefore, stock up generously in Toad Town. The more you spend in the store, the bigger the discount will be for future purchases.

You'll need heaps of snippets in Paper Mario.

KP-Plus items that you find throughout the game increase Mario's strength. This allows you to defeat weak opponents with the hammer without having to fight in the arena. This will also save you some time.

General Tips & Tricks

  • If you ever get stuck, press the X button to talk to Olivia. She will usually have some helpful advice for you.
  • Use every bank you can find. Besides mushroom items, this is the only way to replenish your energy.

On a bench you regenerate your energy.

  • In the combat studio you can unlock a combat aid (must be activated in the menu afterwards). From now on you will be assisted in all fights.
  • Start fights by hitting the enemies with your hammer or jumping on them. This already causes damage before the arena fight starts.

Paper Mario: The Origami King - Tips for Battles

At the beginning of each fight, the folding henchmen are in the optimal constellation to be able to finish the fight in one go (later only possible with stronger weapons). Be sure to pay attention to how the enemies are spread out on the field now, so you can easily turn them back.

By pressing the R button during the battles, you can switch to a bird's eye view and get a better overview.

The battles in Paper Mario: The Origami King always take place in an arena.

If you do lose track of what's going on, you can buy more time for the move by holding down the plus button.

Even better is the help of the Toads. By holding down the Y key, you can give them up to 999 coins per battle. In return, they will arrange the enemies in the best possible way, supply you with items, inflict damage on the Folding Genes, or increase your CP. The more you pay, the better the support.

If you press the A button at the right moment, your attacks will cause more damage.

In boss fights, look for envelopes lying around the arena. On them you'll find valuable tips on how to give the creep a run for his money. Olivia will also provide you with advice. Here, too, you can call on the Toads for help. They will show you the way across the battlefield.

How do I find all the treasure minis, toads and blocks?

In the menu you can see - for each area - what your current level of Toads, Treasure Minis, ?-Blocks and Groundless Holes is. You will be rewarded with a success message when you reach 100 percent.

In bushes, under rocks, on trees, in small circular holes, in walls, disguised as insects, flowers or animals - Toads can be found practically everywhere. Keep your eyes open and hit them everywhere with a hammer as you walk by.

Also, buy the Toad Bell as soon as possible. It rings when a Toad is nearby. You can buy the bell after a few hours of play from the merchant in front of the Earth Parchment Temple.

The invisible ?-blocks are usually marked by a square field on the ground. Stand on the square and jump to find them.

The ?-blocks are well hidden.

Many corridors and tunnels are hidden by objects and are not or only partially captured by the camera. Therefore, look closely at corners and crevices.

Also, return later to areas where you have already been. New perspectives and paths will open up that were hidden during your first visit.

How can I simplify the use of the folding arms?

Using the folding arms via motion control is sometimes a little tricky. Disable the function in the menu to control all actions with the stick. If you want to use the motion controls, try to make the movements short and fast.

Use the folding arms to open hidden entrances.

One last tip to finish with: enjoy the great game world and the wonderful dialogues. Each Toad has his own individual two-liner, peppered with puns and humor. You don't often find this much wit in a game.
