Hyper Scape is the latest representative of the battle royale genre. The Free2Play shooter is developed by the renowned game developer Ubisoft Montreal - known for Assassin's Creed Origins and Far Cry 5 - and was released on August 11, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are to follow at the end of the year.

We've already spent a few hours in Hyper Scape and have put together some tips for you to help you emerge victorious on the battlefield of Neo Arcadia.

How does a match work?

Hyper Scape relies on squad-based gameplay, similar to Apex Legends (). Your goal is to be the only squad left alive at the end of the match.

You will be ejected over the map at the beginning of a match along with two teammates. Your means of transport is a flying capsule, whose flight path you can determine relatively freely. Neo Arcadia is divided into zones that gradually corrupt. You will receive slow but steady damage when you are in a corrupted zone.

Corrupted zones gradually dissolve into pixels.

Once only one zone is left, a crown will appear inside that zone. If you collect the crown and manage to hold it for 45 seconds, your squad wins - even if other squads are still alive.

The second special feature of Hyper Scape is the Twitch integration. Ubisoft has designed the shooter specifically for streaming and has therefore developed the Twitch extension Crowncast. Viewers can use it to influence the match and trigger time-limited events. Even if you are not streaming yourself, it happens quite often that streamers are in the match and you are thus also affected by these events.

The events are triggered when people vote for them on Twitch. The following events are possible:

  • Supply Crate: New supply crates spawn on the map.
  • Healing Kit: Healing fields spawn randomly on the map.
  • Extra Jump: You can jump up to five times in the air.
  • Cooldown Accelerator: The cooldown for hacks expires faster.
  • Low Gravity: You jump slower, but much higher.
  • Revelation: All players near you will be marked.
  • Infinite Ammo: Your weapons get infinite ammo for a short time.
  • Lethal Melee: You can take out enemies with just one strike from your melee weapon.
  • Speed: All players will receive a speed boost for 20 seconds.

Don't forget that these events affect all players. Example: If all enemies are tagged, then you will also be tagged for the enemies.

How do I get the best loot?

As soon as you land on the map, the search for loot - i.e. weapons, ammunition and hack skills - begins immediately. Loot is usually found in walkable buildings. Equipment can also respawn after some time, but it doesn't make much sense to wait for it due to the progressive corruption.

Your chances are especially good with the so-called landmarks. These are special buildings like the Red Tiger town hall in the center of the map. In these areas you will not only find more equipment, but often also already fused weapons and hacks. However, be prepared for enemy confrontation when you approach a landmark.

Hit the supply crate with a melee weapon to open it.

Apart from the standard loot, there are also the supply crates. In these, you'll find high-value equipment like max-fused weapons. Just like in Fortnite (), the supply crates attract attention with a tinkling sound. So always pay attention to the background noise.

You'll make hunting for loot easier if you head for the right areas as soon as you drop. Prominent buildings and areas have names that you can use to orient yourself when landing. The names light up in blue letters above the corresponding areas during the flight phase. For landmarks, the name is displayed in gold lettering.

You can recognize landmarks by their golden names.

When landing, pay attention to where the enemy capsules are flying. If you see many capsules heading for a building, deviate from the course and land a little further away. Avoid the landmarks until you master the game mechanics, as you can always expect a big rush there.

Parkour in Hyper Scape: How to use movement

Neo Arcadia is built like a modern city and accordingly consists of numerous streets, avenues, alleys and heaps of houses and buildings lined up next to each other. Most of the buildings and houses can be climbed - thanks to the double jump you can get from the street to the roof in no time.

Climbable objects (houses, factories and more) are usually close together, so you can move from roof to roof without interruption. This is also important, because otherwise you will be easy prey for snipers.

The higher up you are, the better the view of the city.

There is no minimap. Find an elevated position to get an overview. Many of the landmarks are suitable as landmarks thanks to their size. Also, keep an eye out for enemies when you briefly reorient yourself.

What are the best hacks and how do I use them?

Hacks are special abilities that you can use again and again after the cooldown expires. You have room in your inventory for a maximum of two hacks at a time. We have listed the hacks and their effects for you:

  • Wall: Build a wall to cut off enemies or protect you and your comrades from fire.
  • Mine: Lay a mine that automatically flies towards nearby enemies.
  • Invisibility: Makes you invisible for a short time.
  • Revelation: Marks nearby enemies.
  • Heal: Builds a healing sphere that heals you and teammates.
  • Armor: You are briefly equipped with an impenetrable shield.
  • Ball: You transform into an armored flummiball.
  • Teleport: You teleport over short distances.
  • Slam: Jumps high into the air and then slams to the ground.
  • Shockwave: Sends out a shockwave that damages enemies and knocks them away.
  • Magnet: Sets up a magnet that attracts all enemies within a radius.

Take two hacks that are in opposition to each other. For example, two locomotion hacks - teleport and ball - will make you move faster, but you won't be able to fight enemies with them.

You can try out all the hacks in the training area.

For us, the combinations "Armor and Mine" and "Wall and Heal" turned out to be effective hack combinations for the first hours of play.

Tactics for "Armor and Mine

If you are in close combat with an enemy, you lay a mine and then use Armor. The mine will fly towards the enemy while you protect yourself from the blast damage thanks to the armor.

Tactics for "Wall and Slam

Block the enemy line of sight to you by conjuring up a wall. Then jump over the erected wall and slam into the enemy for maximum damage. You can also use the wall to cut off fleeing enemies.

What are fusions and how do I fuse my equipment?

Fusions are upgrades for your weapons and hacks. You get the upgrades by combining your equipment with a duplicate of your equipment. So if you have a shotgun with you and you find another shotgun, you simply pick up the shotgun and the two weapons will be fused. The same goes for hacks.

Fusion improves magazine capacity and damage of weapons. For hacks, it provides a reduced cooldown. All weapons and hacks can be fused up to four times.

Collect every duplicate of your equipment and you'll get to the fifth fusion level in no time. Level five gives your weapons and offensive hacks - like the slam - an extra damage bonus.

Hyper Scape: Tips & Tricks for Combat

In combat, in addition to the effective use of hacks, reaction and speed are also important. Keep moving constantly when you get into a gunfight. Make active use of the double jump to dodge projectile and explosive bullets.

Use verticality in your favor: jump to elevated positions in the middle of combat. Since the enemy has to follow you upwards first, a short time window opens up in which you can either set a trap for him or change your position completely.

Headshots do devastating damage, by the way. With some max-fused weapons, like the sniper rifle, even one shot is enough to finish off an enemy.

If you stop in combat, you're as good as dead.

On-screen death doesn't mean the end in Hyper Scape. You turn into an echo- invisible to enemies - after death. Your teammates can now bring you back at a recovery point. However, you will have to go in search of weapons and hacks again after the resurrection.

Until your teammates find a recovery point, scout the area for your squad. As an Echo, you can't intervene, but you can at least mark enemies.
