Hades Guide: Collect & Spend Ambrosia & Nectar

For some tasks in Hades you will receive a vial full of nectar as a reward. Later there's even a more valuable version called Ambrosia. But what is this actually good for? In our Hades Guide you'll find out:

  • What nectar and ambrosia are
  • How to collect them
  • Where to spend them

You can find even more background information to help you play Hades in our Tips & Tricks Guide.

Hades Guide: What are nectar and ambrosia?

Nectar and Ambrosia are - besides gems, keys or eclipse stones - items that you get in the course of Hades. You can give them to other characters, improve your relationship with them, and sometimes get special items from them.

Ambrosia is the nobler version of Nectar and is also used as a gift. Accordingly, the quid pro quos of the characters are more valuable for it.

Already a little playboy, the Zagreus.

Where can I find Nectar and Ambrosia in Hades?

Both nectar and ambrosia are available as rewards during the escape attempt. For example, if you successfully clear a room, a vial of nectar will sometimes appear. You will see which item you receive in a room before you enter a new room.

If you come across Charon the Ferryman in between, you can sometimes buy a vial of nectar from him for gold pieces (also called Obol). The Wretched Dawdler in your home will give you Nectar for five keys. If you have already learned to fish, you can catch fish in Elysium, which you can then exchange for nectar at the cook.

For a bottle of ambrosia, you'll have to do a bit more than just clean a room full of enemies. You'll get it as a reward for successfully killing Theseus and the Minotaur. Alternatively, you can get Ambrosia from the Wretched Dawdler, but he demands a fair price for it: two diamonds!

Both Nectar and Ambrosia can be obtained as rewards from the Fate List. You can find them on the desk in your chambers.

Once you've cleared the room of enemies, a vial of nectar may beckon.

Hades: What do Nectar and Ambrosia bring?

As mentioned at the beginning of our Hades guide, you can't sell nectar and ambrosia, but you can exchange them with other characters. In return, you'll rise in the character's reputation, which will lead to him or her giving you a memento after enough gifts. For example, if you give nectar to your sparring partner Skelly, you'll receive a lucky tooth from him. When activated, the passive bonus comes into effect once per escape attempt. However, you can only carry one memento at a time.

If you give other characters five or six vials of nectar, they will offer you a quest in return. If you complete the quest successfully and also give the quest giver a bottle of Ambrosia, you'll receive a companion - a powerful item that will accompany and support you in your escape attempts.

Both Nectar and Ambrosia are gladly accepted by other characters, though there are a few exceptions. You can't give Nectar or Ambrosia to Alecto, Tisiphone, Theseus and Asterius. The latter is also refused by Bouldy and Hades.

By the way, if at some point later in the game - to be exact, once you've played through it - you'll be able to throw ambrosia at yourself and have already given all the characters rich gifts, you'll have the option of giving ambrosia in 10 stacks to the Resource Director. Together with the other currencies, you can use them to climb up the ranks.
