Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Find all cairns

The cairn challenges in Assassin's Creed Valhalla are not mandatory, but you will need them if you want to platinize the game. One achievement is called "Balance" and requires you to complete at least three cairn events. In this guide, we'll tell you:

  • How many cairn challenges there are
  • Where to find them
  • How to complete the challenges

What are cairns and how many are there?

There are currently 13 cairn challenges in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. We'll show you the locations of each stack in more detail below. But why should you complete them at all?

For one thing, you will receive an achievement and a bronze trophy as soon as you have completed three cairn challenges. If you're on the hunt for platinum, you'll have to take this achievement anyway.

On the other hand, you get skill points when you complete the small optional events.

One of the rewards is a skill point.

How does a cairn challenge work?

You will find small piles of stones in different places in England, from which you have to build cairns. That is, you take one stone at a time and place them on top of each other without everything collapsing.

Put the biggest and most even stone as a base and place the others on top of it. Ideally, the stones will get smaller towards the top. If your cairn is stable, you have mastered the challenge.

If you are building cairns for the first time, you will receive a detailed explanation of how best to go about it.

All cairn challenge locations

There are 13 cairns waiting for you to build them in England. We have listed the locations in ascending order of the recommended strength with which you should travel to the respective countries. The exception is Vinland at the end of the list. After that you will find the challenges that await you in the DLC Wrath of the Druids.

Legracaesterscir

The challenge in Legracaesterscir is a good way to learn how to build the little stone towers. If you have already uncovered this part of the map, you will be presented with a puzzle at this exact location. The event is located on Cernewudu Mountain, which you can ride up directly when you arrive at the port.

Is the small stone tower stable? Then you have done everything right.

East-Engla

For the next cairn challenge in Assassin's Creed Valhalla you have to travel to the east coast of East-Engla. If you follow the road to the northwest from Walsham Moor, you will automatically reach East Cape Peak.

Asgard

The main story will eventually take you to Asgard, right in the middle of the realm of the gods. There is also a pile of stones there that wants to be carefully stacked on top of each other. In the south of the southern island, on the mountain Litamjotvid, you will find the challenge.

Scrobbescir

From Wenlocan Monastery, ride south along the lake shore until you are directly south below the lake. Head straight for Mount Titrastan Claeghyll from there and you'll find the next challenge in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Sudseaxe

In this area of Englaland, you'll find the town of Crawanlea in the southeastern part of Sudseaxe. If you ride (or run) southwest from there, you will come to the High Cliffs. Run all the way to the top and you can try your hand at the cairn challenge.

Unfortunately, the cairns you're looking for for the challenges aren't as obvious as this formation.

Jötunheim

Once you make your way to Jötunheim, you should focus on the area around Utgard. There you will find a lot of wealth and some puzzles - including the cairn challenge. Head northwest of Utgard until you come across the Atgeir rise. At the top, the small cairn awaits you.

Eoforwicscir

The main story of Assassin's Creed Valhalla will eventually take you north to the area of Eoforwicscir, which stretches around the larger town of Eoforvic. To the west of the area is a lake, on the southern shore of which you'll find Elmet Monastery. For the cairn challenge, however, you'll move to the northern shore. There you will find the mountain Aenglaburh.

But beware: the puzzle is a tough one and turns out to be a very shaky affair. Be prepared for a few more attempts than before.

Glowecaesterscir

In the western area of Gloweacaesterscir there are two cairn challenges waiting for you: one in the northwest and one in the southeast. In the northwest you will find the mountain Maen Ceti.

A little tip: You will probably only reach the goal of this puzzle if you place the largest stone last.

The second challenge is more in the southeast of the area. It's best to start in the capital Glowecaester and ride or run out to the northeast. You will then come to the Clif Hyll elevation, where you can take on the next puzzle.

Always keep your eyes open - or alternatively send out your raven.

Snotingahamscir

If you follow the river north, you will inevitably come across the cairn challenge at the end. Look for the waterfall called Kinderfall and climb past it to the top. That's where the stones are lying around.

Hördafylki

Travel back to Norway, where your adventure began. On the island in the northwest, where you will also find a lookout point, a cairn challenge awaits you. You'll have to climb up Torghatten Rock to solve the comparatively simple puzzle.

Hamtunscir

In the south of Englaland, the large city of Wincester awaits you - but you won't be interested in it for the cairn challenge. Start in the town and walk out to the north. Northwest of it you'll find the elevation Heald Tor, on which the stones lie. Again, you'll have to fiddle around a bit. It's best to place large and small stones alternately.

Vinland

Vinland, as mentioned at the beginning, is a small exception. This area has no recommended strength, because you don't carry any weapons there. You won't find any dangers in Vinland. Except for the alpha in the east of Kahrhaken:rat, but that's another topic. Instead, you'll head west to Mount Ionhontsiiò:ke, where you'll have to solve the cairn puzzle.

Cairn in the DLC Wrath of the Druids

You can get four more cairn challenges only if you play the Wrath of the Druids DLC. However, at least three cairns are enough for the "Balance" achievement. The following challenges in Ireland are therefore only optional.

Connachta

In the north of the Connachta region you will find the hill Binn Ghulbain northwest of the viewpoint. Stack the stones there and you have solved the puzzle.

Mide

In Mide, travel to Droim Lis, which is on the northern bank of the river. Ride south and you'll come to the Bog of Inchroe - where another cairn challenge wants to be solved.

Dyflin

Once you're in Dyflin, ride southwest. The area isn't too big and you'll quickly find the stone plateau there, where you'll have to solve the next puzzle - with a beautiful view over the Irish coast.

Ulaid

This area is the largest in Ireland. For the cairn challenge, travel all the way north to the coast. Walk along the water and you will find the puzzle at Cionn Mhalanna. Don't be surprised: this time you won't necessarily find the event on the highest elevation.
