Far Cry New Dawn Beginner's Guide: Weapons, advantage points & more

Hope County has changed a lot since the nuclear disaster. But don't worry, today we will tell you in this beginner's guide

    • How to get materials quickly
    • How to use more weapons in battle
    • What you need to do to get more advantage points
    • Who and what will make your life easier

After all, you don't want to walk through the new world without a plan. Why is Hope County new? Because a nuclear disaster destroyed the entire country. A few lucky people were able to save themselves in bunkers and stay there for 15 years until the surface became accessible again. During this time, flora and fauna have spread unhindered, and the debris of the disaster has already become almost respectable with flowers.

It's a pity that besides the peaceful inhabitants of Hope County, there are also other people who try to take what belongs to you by force. And you can't let that happen! That's why today we're going to tell you a few tips on how to stand up to these groups.

1. Running away is a solution

You're probably used to it from video games: When you're sent to a battlefield, the story doesn't continue until all the enemies on it have been pulverized or at least killed. This could also be your first thought in Far Cry New Dawn, when you discover the burning train and the crowd of enemies right at the beginning. Your first meters in the game already consist of fighting and destruction.

Especially newcomers to the franchise will need a moment to find their way around. However, it is not at all necessary to hunt down all the enemies. Keep to the left as much as possible and grab the first aid kits in the wagons as well as enough ammunition for your weapon and just run.

If you want, you can sneak up on the first enemies and kill them silently, as well as blow all the other crooks to hell with the ample ammo you have. On higher difficulty, this could become a challenge right in the first 10 minutes, so just run away.

Far Cry: New Dawn and five other games that prepare you for the post-apocalypse.

Yes, this is actually a solution! In this sequence, it's all about you reaching the finish point. No matter what happens behind you. So go ahead, quick feet, and you'll have completed the first section.

In hopeless fights, it sometimes works wonders to retreat. If you're up against a large number of enemies, run backwards a bit and pull the group apart. They will lose sight of you and look for you individually. This way they are an easy target and victory is within reach.

2. Have more weapons - but how?

In every part of the Far Cry franchise, you can easily pick up the enemy's weapon after the fight and then face his friends with new firepower. Sometimes they have useful weapons in their luggage: a sniper rifle or an MP with a large magazine. So it's worthwhile to grab them from time to time.

Especially in the beginning you will notice that you only have one weapon slot at your disposal. You don't want to give up your favorite weapon, especially if the sniper rifle is only needed for a short time, but a shotgun would be better in the course of the fight. That's why it's advisable to look at the advantage points for distributing abilities right at the beginning.

In a special advantage menu, you can invest the points you get (through combat or missions) in different abilities. The fishing rod looks nice or the ability for silent kills, e.g. from the air, sounds tempting. Our tip: Rather invest the points directly into a new slot for weapons. This way you can immediately carry a ranged weapon and a scatter weapon like the shotgun and decide what your strategy should be, depending on the situation.

3. Get the helpers

In the menu you'll find a section that displays various helpers. These eight people (and animals) must be found in Hope County and brought home with you. Then they will be at your disposal in battle. Each of them brings special abilities that even improve over time.

The cute dog named Timber is especially useful. He is not shown on the map as a human support, but you will get the quest from passers-by on your way to one of the first missions. Here it's about freeing the little guy from some kind of animal shelter. It's best to do this at the beginning of the game, because it's not really difficult and the four-legged friend is a great help in collecting resources.

If you have him on your team, he will not only passionately bite the enemies, but also show you where there are items to loot nearby. This is extremely practical, because tape, gears and the like are sometimes really well hidden, especially in larger areas. And the long search can be quite annoying.

4. How to get special and unique materials

In Hope County money is rather unimportant, the needed things are made with simple materials by yourself or dipped against other goods. That's why you can't trade animal skins and the like for money, but you can get crafting materials for them at every merchant and all sales stations.

Special fish, for example, give blasting caps when you sell them. Everything from copper to platinum is available here, depending on the rarity and strength of the respective animal. So hunting is definitely worthwhile if you want to make something specific and still need something for it.

5. Here you can get new weapons

You are facing a base that seems to be impregnable or a quest is trickier than you thought? Then head to the workbench! It's available in every base you own, in your Prosperity home, and occasionally in other people's homes. Here you won't be able to modify your weapons like in the previous parts, but you can simply build a new one.

From bows to flamethrowers, with materials like tape, component boxes, and titanium, you can make just about anything in no time and use it right away.

For the really cool or fancy weapons, however, you'll also need to level up the workbench. For this you need ethanol, which can be collected in the course of the story, through transporters or by conquering enemy bases.

6. Faster movement - this is how you get vehicles

In Far Cry New Dawn, nothing works without alcohol. Some drink it, others need ethanol to expand their base. It is the most important resource in New County and can be plundered mainly by conquering enemy bases. You can then use ethanol to expand your own home, Prosperity. This has the advantage of greatly improving individual aspects. This includes your workshop, which can be upgraded to level 4 by pouring the high-proof stuff into it.

The advantage: You get more cars and vehicles to get around in the world of Far Cry. Hope County seems clearly arranged, but is sometimes quite large on foot. In order to get from A to B faster, it makes sense to have a vehicle from the workshop. In exchange for materials picked up in the world, the workshop delivers the desired vehicle within seconds. From a rusty sidecar to a sleek coupe with a gun on the roof.

In addition, there is, of course, the option to use fast travel from one place to another. But this only applies to areas that you have already traveled to and, most importantly, conquered. Then you can travel there within a few seconds by simply confirming the icon on the map. The quick travel points are well distributed, so you can get there quickly. And if a place is a bit further away, you now know how to get a car.

7. Get more advantage points

To unlock more advantages and thus more abilities, you need advantage points. At the beginning, you'll get a few of them for each mission, which are easily enough to take the first steps. But if you want to improve certain things significantly, you'll quickly run out of points. Different skills like the lung capacity can be stacked, so you'll have to invest points in them again and again.

You could leave it to chance and just wait until you have enough points by completing the story missions. Or you could just check out the game's "challenges." Here, there are four different categories with a bunch of tasks you can complete for new advantage points. Killing five simple enemies with a flamethrower, for example, will earn you 2 points - and that should take no more than 3 minutes.

8. How do I play online?

Roaming the woods alone and taking down the Highwaymen is fun, but together it's even more fun. That's why Far Cry New Dawn offers you the possibility to invite friends to your session.

This is quite easy: The last item in the menu is directly titled "Online". All you have to do is confirm and select a friend from your own list who also has the game. Now you have to wait until he joins. It doesn't matter how far the other person has progressed in the game.

However, a prerequisite for a joint tour is that you have an online membership on the consoles. The invited friend joins your session, but the progress made in this way is not saved. So it's best to do it for the fun of it and not to finish the game faster.
