Minecraft Earth Guide: Our tips & tricks for the AR game

In our guide to Minecraft Earth you will learn:

  • Beginner tips for the AR game
  • Tricks for placing buildings
  • How to connect with friends

Who doesn't know them, the little pixel blocks of Minecraft ()! Now the collecting and building game is also coming to smartphones () and is taking off with an Early Access version in many countries. With Pokémon GO as inspiration, Mojang has copied a few things from the game with the pocket monsters and expanded them for its own purposes.

The result is Minecraft Earth (also called Minecraft GO ), the mobile spin-off with pickaxes, blocks and creepers. Equipped with a Microsoft account, you can start right away and collect materials to create your first building. So far, the functions are quite limited, but that should change after the final release. An exact date when Minecraft Earth will leave Early Access is not yet known.

What's special about the game is that you can select building slabs and place them in your environment in 3D when AR mode is turned on. Once placed, the building can be expanded with items from the inventory. The duck, tulip and mushroom are sure to find a place on your first own piece of block world. The buildings can be shared with friends and even expanded together.

Our tip for a relaxed start

Don't worry your head! The basic mechanics work the same as in the big brother: run around, mine and collect things, create new structures and occasionally fight against creepers () and animals. Always with you: your pickaxe. You don't need much more than it and your fingertip to start - and master - the game.

Placing buildings in Minecraft Earth

In the building menu, the app asks you to find a bright and structured place to place a structure. Unfortunately, what exactly "structured" means is not further defined. You will have to try a bit to find a suitable place.

If there is glitter somewhere in your surroundings, that is a first sign for a suitable building site. Hold your smartphone in that direction and tilt it back and forth a bit until the house, green space, or your slab appears. Then tap it briefly to place it in that spot.

Collecting materials from buildings

Want to create a great structure, but don't have enough pixel blocks in your inventory? Then look at another structure you've created and use the interaction mode to just steal a few individual parts. Whether it's the duck running around there or the grass block, put what you want to use somewhere else in your bag after all.

Connect with friends

It's easy to interact with friends via the app. On a separate button in the upper right corner of the building menu, you'll find a QR code that your friends just need to scan to work on something together. They will then be virtually drawn to your build and can join you in creating something great.

It is possible to tinker together on a kind of blueprint in a smaller format. There you can change something faster and easier. Once all the builders are satisfied, it is published and appears in its original size in front of you. Since everything is displayed in 3D, it can be admired from all sides.

Wander around the world, create your own building plates with different buildings and materials on them and see what else the people around you have created. Maybe you'll even use it as inspiration for your next project?

Tips for collecting & placing animals

When you walk through the streets with the app open, little icons pop up on the map, similar to Pokémon GO. In addition to mineable/collectable materials, there are sometimes animals on the street that you can put in your pocket. Not only are they for your own enjoyment in your inventory, but they are also a placeable element on your builds.

If you are tinkering with a new building with green space, open your inventory and select the (mushroom) cow (), pig or rabbit and place it on your structure. From now on, you get to watch your pet move around the new area.

Make your dailies and collect diligently

Every day, as in most smartphone games, there are daily tasks to complete. Usually there are easier missions and more difficult quests, both of which give valuable rewards at the end of the day. So it's worth checking the app every day and picking up as many rewards as possible this way. These can be gems or experience points.

The reachable radius on your smartphone is quite large in the AR app. This means that you don't necessarily have to hold your phone non-stop in order to collect enough materials. Just open the app every now and then and collect everything that appears in your radius within a few seconds.
