Outriders Guide: The best tips & tricks

In this Outriders Guide with tips and tricks you will learn:

  • Which feature of the game you best largely ignored
  • Which skill you should definitely master

You want to play Outriders with crossplay? In our guide you will learn how to do that.

Forget the cover mechanics

Outriders is a cover shooter - at least that's what the game wants you to believe. The truth is: the cover mechanic is not that important. Instead, the game rewards you excessively for playing aggressively: Each class has its own healing ability, which is tied to dealing as much damage as possible. If you just crouch behind a wall, you simply won't make any progress and will only get stuck. Dodging is a much better choice!

Extra tip for PC players: Swap the default key assignment for dodge roll and cover so that dodge is on the space bar and cover is on CTRL. We found Outriders to play much smoother with this change.

Good rule of thumb: In Outriders, cover is not there for you, but for the enemies!

Play as your class dictates

The four classes of Outriders differ significantly in their abilities and possibilities. The most important difference is their operational radius, which you should definitely consider:

  • The Devastator is a robust melee class and regenerates life when enemies die near it.
  • The Assassin must also "get close" to deal massive damage and heal. From a distance, you're wasting a lot of potential.
  • The Pyromancer is most effective at medium range. To heal, he must tag enemies with abilities and then finish them off. It requires the most tactical playstyle and is the hardest to play at the beginning.
  • The Technomancer is the most flexible, as it automatically heals itself for a percentage of its damage inflicted. However, his abilities are most effective at range or rely on support, so he is best positioned further back with a rifle.

The Assassin is most deadly at close range.

Fire abilities from all guns

Your abilities in Outriders are extremely powerful and have very short cooldowns, so they're ready to go again in a flash. Take advantage of that! Using skills sparingly is a waste - with one exception: Interrupt skills.

Master the Interrupt feature

Some skills can interrupt enemies - you can see which skills these are in the skills menu. They are especially important in boss fights: if an orange bar appears above the enemy's life bar and slowly fills up, that enemy is casting a powerful ability that you can interrupt with an appropriate skill. Especially for enemies with self-healing abilities, you should always have a skill with interrupt ready, otherwise fights can take longer and get dicey.

Advanced tip: If you interrupt an enemy several times in a row, a blue aura will appear around him. As long as it is active, he is immune to further interruptions. You have to wait until it disappears after some time.

An example of an interrupt ability: the Assassin's Kronos Blade.

Don't worry about class points

Class points in Outriders can be put into an elaborate skill tree, giving your character powerful passive abilities and buffs. Class points are essential for good builds, but you don't have to worry too much about them: You can reset and redistribute them at any time without cost.
