3. Story: What is Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden about?

If you are looking for our kind in Mutant Year Zero, you won't find it: A disease completely wiped out humanity within a few years. Instead, ghouls, other dark creatures and mutants populate the world.

They call the ark their home. A small settlement with traders, which is sealed off from the actual world - the "Zone" - was built many meters into the sky for security reasons and is only accessible via an elevator.

So that the inhabitants of the ark survive, so-called "stalkers" leave the settlement again and again in search of supplies and useful objects. These include Dux and Bormin, two of the heroes from Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. However, they soon get a more important task: searching for a lost Stalker team.

4. What characters can I play?

Mutant Year Zero features five playable characters that you can add to your team:

  • Bormin
  • Dux
  • Selma
  • Farrow
  • Magnus

Bormin and Dux are available right from the start of the game. You will meet Selma, Farrow and Magnus later in the game. Each of the five characters has their own strengths and unique mutations that make them valuable team members.

However, your team will only ever consist of three stalkers . So you'll have to decide later in Mutant Year Zero who to take with you into the zone.

Points are used to unlock new mutations.

5. How does the gameplay work?

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden cleverly combines real-time strategy with turn-based strategy and sneaking elements. You don't have to throw yourself into every fight - unless you play aggressively and want to face every challenge. However, especially with much stronger enemies, we recommend sneaking around them first. You can always come back later and pull the wool over their eyes.

To help you find your way around the gameplay, we have put together some tips for beginners. This way, even those of you who aren't really fans of strategy games will have a sense of achievement in the zone.

6. Does Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden have a leveling system?

In Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden you won't just fight to advance, of course. After each successful battle, you'll get points that you'll invest in your character's mutations. You can choose pure health upgrades, but also unlock completely new abilities in a second skill tree, which will decide about victory or defeat in the fight against the ghouls.

Normal is the new easy - at least in Mutant Year Zero.

7. How do the difficulty levels differ?

Right from the start, you can choose between four difficulty levels in Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden. Easy" for genre newcomers is not part of the offer, they have to be content with the normal difficulty level. Among other things, this provides full regeneration after won battles.

If you want to really torture yourself, you can opt for the highest difficulty level, "Iron Mutant". Among other things, it offers permadeath and no regeneration at all. So it's a real challenge.
