Far Cry 5: Skills: These skills are the most important ones
In Far Cry 5, you find yourself as an apprentice sheriff in the fictional Hope County, which is ruled by the fanatical Eden's Gate sect and its leader Joseph Seed. The fight against the militant believers is quite tricky for the developer and publisher Ubisoft in the extensive open world.
That's why the 50 skills available to your hero come in handy. With them, you can gradually better equip your main character for the battles. But which ones should you unlock first? We give you some tips.
How to get skill points in Far Cry 5
If you played the predecessors of Far Cry 5, you'll have to adjust a bit when it comes to being allowed to carry more weapons, for example. In Far Cry 4, you had to scour the wilderness and hunt animals for a long time. You could then use their skins and hides to make larger bags for guns or ammunition.
Far Cry 5 hides all of this in the extensive skill tree. This time, hunting prey only serves to earn money - for example, when fishing.
To unlock new talents, you need skill points, which you constantly earn along the way during the game. For example, there are challenges that run in the background - such as landing a certain number of head shots. Once you've done that, you'll get skill points as a reward.
But even if you just free Hope County from Eden's Gate bit by bit, you'll make progress. If you secure an outpost or complete similar tasks, you'll also earn skill points.
A regular look at the skills screen is therefore worthwhile in Far Cry 5.
These are the skills you should unlock at the start of the game
A total of 50 skills await you. They all have different prices and, above all, are useful in different ways - at least at the start of Far Cry 5.
As soon as you have earned your first skill points, you should concentrate on the following skills. By the way, we have listed all the skills in Far Cry 5 and their effects for you elsewhere.
Parachute
Cost: 1 point
This skill unlocks a parachute for your hero, which you can trigger by holding down the jump button.
This is life-saving in many a situation and extremely important especially in conjunction with the following skill. The wingsuit, which you can also unlock, is rather optional in the beginning.
Climbing hook
Cost: 1 point
Everywhere in the game world of Far Cry 5 you will find climbing hook symbols on high buildings or rocks. However, you can only climb them once you have unlocked the Climbing Hook skill. This not only makes it easier for you to attack enemy bases here and there, since you have a better overview from higher points.
You'll also need this skill for story missions, for example at the beginning of the story (if you're heading to Fall's End). There you have to climb a transmission tower, which will remain in your quest list for a long time without a climbing hook.
Health Boost 1
Cost: 6 points
Health Boost 1 is relatively expensive, but very important. It increases your hero's health by 50 percent, so you can take more damage. This not only helps when you attack enemy bases or play story missions, where things usually get pretty rough.
Even when you're just exploring Hope County, you'll constantly encounter enemies or wild animals that will give you a run for your money. Since you can only heal damage with first aid kits - as in other Far Cry parts - it helps if you can take more damage out of the box. Bandaging takes some time and you can only carry three first aid kits with you at the start of Far Cry 5.
Additional holster
Cost: 8 points
Even more expensive, but also very helpful, is the additional holster. When you start the fight against Eden's Gate, your hero is only allowed to have one handgun and one larger weapon in his luggage. Once you unlock the additional holster, a third weapon slot opens up.
Then, for example, you can pack a bow in addition to a pistol and a rifle if you want to proceed silently. Or a rocket launcher, if you're more of a "drop the gun" kind of player. By the way, in the later course of Far Cry 5 it is recommended to activate the fourth holster slot as well, but this is not necessary right at the beginning.
Quiet Sprinter
Cost: 4 points
Whenever you attack an enemy base, you should first try to remain undetected.
This way you will not only kill one or the other enemy without taking any damage. You'll also prevent the alarm from going off and reinforcements from coming to shoot you to pieces in Far Cry 5.
With the ability "Quiet Sprinter" your hero moves faster in a crouched position, i.e. when sneaking.
Blowtorch
Cost: 5 points
Another tool that will be familiar to Far Cry veterans is the welding torch. With it you can repair damaged vehicles. This helps not only with your own, but also with enemy vehicles, if you want to get them ready to go again after a battle.
In addition, there are always safes around in Far Cry 5 that you can loot - provided you can open them. The blowtorch is the lockpick of the ruffians.
Other useful skills
If you have activated the skills described above, you are already making good progress. But of course, some of the remaining skills are also extremely useful. For example, it's a good idea to keep increasing your hero's health or ammo pouches.
The following four skills are definitely worth considering in Far Cry 5:
Harvest Master (cost: 8 points): With this skill, you'll capture more hides as well as meat from hunted animals. Means you can sell more to the various merchants, which will keep your cash register ringing.
King of Fishermen (Cost: 4 points): In the same vein, this skill makes it easier for you to catch fish and allows you to reel in larger caliber fish. More fish means more money from the merchants in Far Cry 5.
Lockpicker (Cost: 6 points): While you can open safes with the welding torch, there are also locked doors in the game world for which you need the appropriate key. With the lockpicking skill, however, you can open them without a key. But beware: This does not apply to doors that have to be opened with a key card.
Guide (cost: 6 points): In Far Cry 5, you can get companions by your side. Dog Boomer sniffs out enemies for you, sniper Grace takes aim at enemies from a distance. Then there's pilot Nick, who rains bombs from the air - the helpers are extremely practical. But you can only have one of them with you at the beginning. With the ability Leadership, however, this expands to two companions, which allows for completely new tactics.
Now you are well prepared for the fight against Eden's Gate. If you also want to know which weapons are available in Far Cry 5 or which vehicles you can use, we have the appropriate articles for you elsewhere.
