Battlefield 2042: 7 tips & tricks for the launch

In our tips guide to Battlefield 2042 you will learn:

  • Which settings you should change
  • How the specialists work
  • What you should do to gain experience points quickly

We also recommend our Battlefield 2042 trophy guide to all trophy hunters. There you will learn what you have to do for all achievements.

The most important settings before the first match

Before you jump into the fray, you should take a detour into Battlefield 2042's Options menu and adjust some settings.

One of the most important options is the field of view: the higher you set it, the more you see to your right and left. You can find the field of view option under Display > Graphics. We recommend at least a setting of "90". The default setting of "55" is way too low, you'll miss a lot of action around you and you might see enemies way too late.

The next setting you should adjust when playing on PlayStation or Xbox is the Soldier Aiming Sensitivity, found under Controller > On Foot. While stick sensitivity is basically a matter of taste, we found the default setting of "20" to be far too low - it makes you turn the camera very slowly and you'll probably be dead long before you've targeted your opponent.

With a soldier aiming sensitivity of at least "45", aiming was much easier for us.

Specialists instead of classes: This is how the new system works

Battlefield 2042 throws the old class system out the window and introduces so-called specialists. Each specialist has a special gadget and a special ability. In total, there are ten different specialists for the release of Battlefield 2042.

Each specialist can also use all weapons and equipment. The classic roles such as medic, engineer or assault soldier are thus omitted, but some specialists harmonize particularly well with certain pieces of equipment.

Specialist Sundance has a wingsuit instead of a parachute as a gadget.

To ensure that you always have the right equipment for all situations during matches, you can compile your own classes in the menu and save them as a loadout.

Go to "All-Out Warfare" in the main menu and then to Collection > Equipment to create your own loadouts. Four loadouts are already preset (assault, medic, engineer and sniper type), but you can change them to your liking. You can also add four more, so you'll have a total of eight different loadouts.

Which specialist is the best medic?

One of the most important classes in Battlefield has always been the medic, who could heal and revive teammates. In Battlefield 2042, each player can pack a medic kit as a gadget. In addition, everyone can revive their squad members, but not with full health.

Specialist Falck is a born medic.

Specialist Falck is the closest thing to the classic Battlefield medic. Namely, she can revive all teammates with full health - no matter if they are in the same squad or not - and she has a so-called S21 squirt gun as a special gadget, which you can use to heal your colleagues from a distance.

Shoot injured allies (you can recognize them by the incomplete life bar above the players) with the spray gun and they will be healed.

Quick & easy XP earning in solo mode

With Specialist Falck, you can earn experience points easily and effectively, as you get points for every heal and revive. Instead of the medical crate, you can equip an ammo crate if needed, again you'll get XP every time you supply teammates with ammo.

If you simply want to level up your weapons and vehicles, we recommend playing the "Solo Mode". Although Battlefield 2042 doesn't offer a classic single-player campaign, you can play the multiplayer modes with computer-controlled bots and still receive experience points for your character level and weapons.

Although developer Dice has slightly lowered the experience points you can currently earn in solo matches, this method is still worthwhile since the bots are easy cannon fodder unlike real players.

By the way, logging in daily and playing a round is especially rewarding, as you will receive bonus XP for the first match of the day.

How do I change weapon attachments in the running game?

Another new feature in Battlefield 2042 is that you can change your weapon attachments in the middle of the battlefield. Hold down L1 / LB / T (PlayStation / Xbox / PC) and you can change the sight, magazine, underbarrel and barrel of the equipped weapon.

This is how easy it is to change the weapon attachments in the middle of the game.

In the menu, you can specify three attachments in each of the four places that you want to switch between in the match. For example, when it comes to sights, it's best to pack one for close combat, one for medium range, and one for distant targets. That way you'll be prepared for any situation.

Calling vehicles - this is how it works

At your team's main spawn point, you can spawn vehicles by clicking on the gear below the spawn point. However, this won't do you any good if you're just standing in the middle of nowhere without a vehicle.

That's where another Battlefield 2042 innovation comes in: You can have vehicles delivered to you at the touch of a button. To do this, hold down L1 R1 / LB RB / B (PlayStation / Xbox / PC) to bring up the request tablet and select an available vehicle (there can only be a certain number of each type of vehicle on the battlefield at any one time). Then all you have to do is mark the drop point and the tank or jeep will be delivered to you.

No car at hand, no problem: just have a vehicle delivered to you.

In addition to vehicles, you can also use the requisition tablet to summon your little Ranger drone to follow you around the battlefield and take enemy fire.

Note, however, that you can only summon vehicles in conquered areas. If you are in enemy territory (marked in red on the map), you will not be able to have vehicles delivered to you. You will also notice this if the corresponding menu does not open at all.

How do I communicate with my team?

Although Battlefield 2042 offers cross-play support, there is no in-game audio chat available at release. If you want to communicate with your friends, you'll either have to start a party on the console or use third-party programs like Discord or Teamspeak.

Thanks to Commrose, you can communicate with your teammates without audio chat.

If you're in a squad with random players, you'll have to use either text chat or Commrose, which is familiar from the Battlefield series. Hold down R1 / RB / Q (PlayStation / Xbox / PC) to open the Commrose. You can use this menu to request healing and ammunition or thank your squad mates, among other things.

You can also use the Commrose to give commands to your Ranger drone and tell it to follow you or go to a certain position.

If you want to tell teammates an enemy position, aim at the position and quickly double-click the Commrose button. This will ping the enemy position for your team.
