Battlefield Portal: All info on Battlefield 2042 mode

In this Battlefield 2042 info guide, we'll tell you:

  • What Battlefield Portal is exactly
  • What Battlefield Portal offers you
  • Which maps are returning from old Battlefield games
  • When you can play Battlefield Portal

With Battlefield Portal, Battlefield 2042 gets a completely new community platform, which gives you numerous setting options for your own matches. In this article, we'll explain what you can do with Battlefield Portal and why Battlefield veterans in particular can look forward to it.

What is Battlefield Portal?

With Battlefield Portal, the name says it all: the portal to the Battlefield world. It will be a community platform within Battlefield 2042 and will feature maps, classes, weapons and vehicles from several Battlefield games. Content from the following Battlefield games will be available at launch:

  • Battlefield 1942
  • Battlefield Bad Company 2
  • Battlefield 3
  • Battlefield 2042

Within Battlefield Portal, you will then be able to create your own game modes and share them with the community, effectively the ultimate Battlefield game mode editor.

In addition to extensive customization options, Battlefield Portal also offers a logic editor that allows you to customize more in-depth elements. Among other things, you'll be able to adjust victory conditions, ban certain weapons or set the sizes of the teams.

On PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, up to 128 players can participate in a match. The last-gen consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, on the other hand, only allow 64 players at the same time.

When will Battlefield Portal be released?

Battlefield Portal will be released alongside Battlefield 2042 on October 22, 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. It will not be available separately or as a Free2Play mode, but will be a permanent part of Battlefield 2042.

It is not yet known whether Battlefield Portal will also be playable in the already announced beta for Battlefield 2042.

What can be adjusted in Battlefield Portal?

First of all, you can't change the maps in Battlefield Portal, so it's not a map editor. You can only adjust the size of the playing field on the maps, for example to limit the playable area on a large map if you prefer to start a match with a few players.

A first screenshot of the editor already shows what complex relationships can be created with it.

On the other hand, if you've always wanted to create game modes with your own rules, but have no idea about modding or creating your own servers, Battlefield Portal is the right place for you.

In the following, we'll introduce you to some of the customization options that Battlefield Portal will offer upon its release in October.

You can let factions from different Battlefield parts compete against each other and even set different team sizes. Whether it's 32 soldiers from World War 2 against 4 fully equipped fighters from Battlefield 3 or a gunship pilot against 24 bazooka carriers, you can create the craziest combinations here.

But you can also intervene deeper into the gameplay and for example deactivate the automatic life regeneration or sprinting. You can also turn off the minimap or the entire HUD - perfect if you want to create your own hardcore modes.

You can also specify exactly which weapons, vehicles and gadgets should be available in a match. The official trailer shows an example of a game mode in which only knives and defibrillators can be used.

Thanks to the logic editor, you can also set quite specific parameters, so that, for example, the weaker team automatically gets a boost or a player is promoted to the all-destroying Juggernaut.

What content is available from Battlefield 1942, Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3?

EA announced that there will be factions, classes, weapons, gadgets and maps from Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3 in Battlefield Portal.

Maps

Six classic maps will be remade for the release of Battlefield 2042 on October 22, 2021.

Fans of Battlefield Bad Company 2 can look forward to the return of Arica Harbor.

  • Battle Of The Bulge (Battlefield 1942)
  • El Alamein (Battlefield 1942)
  • Arica Harbor (Battlefield: Bad Company 2)
  • Valparaiso (Battlefield: Bad Company 2)
  • Caspian Border (Battlefield 3)
  • Noshahr Canals (Battlefield 3)

Weapons

In total, over 40 weapons from Battlefield 1942, Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3 are expected to return.

So far, EA has confirmed the popular M1 Garand self-loading rifle from Battlefield 1942 and the M416 assault rifle from Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3, among others, as returning weapons. Other comebacks are said to include the German rocket launcher Panzerschreck as well as the rapid-fire rifle G3.

This "old-school weapon arsenal" will be playable in addition to all the new weapons from Battlefield 2042. However, it is not yet known how many new weapons Battlefield 2042 will bring.

Vehicles

Again, there will be over 40 old familiar vehicles that you can use in Battlefield Portal. Among them are the Spitfire fighter and the B17 bomber from Battlefield 1942, the Little Bird helicopter from Battlefield 3 and the Quad Bike, which is known for all kinds of shenanigans.

Gadgets

In terms of gadgets, Battlefield Portal brings back over 30 familiar pieces of equipment. For example, players will once again be able to use the MAV and the EOD bot from Battlefield 3. All snipers from BF3, on the other hand, will probably be happy about the return of the Radio Beacon, with which you could set a spawn point at any location.

Of course, the defibrillator, which can be used not only to revive fallen comrades, but also as a deadly melee weapon, should not be missed.

Factions

Seven factions from old Battlefield games will also be playable again. Already confirmed are:

  • England (Battlefield 1942)
  • USA (Battlefield 1942)
  • Germany (Battlefield 1942)
  • USA (Battlefield Bad Company 2)
  • Russia (Battlefield Bad Company 2)

Classes

With the factions, the classes from the corresponding games are also supposed to return. So far only the Battlefield 3 classes have been mentioned as examples:

  • Assault Soldier
  • Pioneer
  • Provider
  • Scout

This means you can play the assault soldier with medikit again, as there was no dedicated Medic class in Battlefield 3. It will be interesting to see how the classes from the different games fare against each other in combat.

In Bad Company 2, for example, there was still a dedicated Medic class, but the assault soldier was also the medic and could always equip himself with fresh ammo for his grenade launcher.

How can I access the Battlefield Portal editor?

On the one hand, the Battlefield Portal editor will be available directly in Battlefield 2042, but on the other hand, you will also be able to easily create your own modes in the browser on your PC or laptop can. The browser function is even completely free and can be used by everyone, regardless of whether you own Battlefield 2042 or not.

Even such crazy scenes with numerous robo-runners are possible with Battlefield Portal.

Only to play the community modes, of course, you need to own Battlefield 2042 on any platform.

Will there be DLCs for Battlefield Portal after launch?

Battlefield 2042 sees itself as a live service game, so the developers promise regular new content after release, including new specialists, maps and weapons. This content will then also be available for free in Battlefield Portal.

These updates will also all be offered free of charge. Players will only have to pay for the Battle Pass, which - like in Warzone or Apex Legends - will only contain cosmetic items.
