Rage 2: All weapons and weapon upgrades
In this weapon guide we will tell you
- which weapons Rage 2 offers you
- where to find all weapons in Rage 2
- which weapon upgrades are available and how much they will cost you
- how to get the BFG 9000
To survive in the wasteland, Rage 2 offers you a total of eight different weapons. From a simple pistol to more exotic specimens like the Grav Arrow launcher, there's something for every shooter fan. Those who pre-ordered Rage 2 also received an additional pistol, while buyers of the Deluxe Edition get the BFG 9000 known from Doom.
We'll give you an overview of all weapons and weapon upgrades here, so you know which weapons are worth investing Feltrit in for new levels.
Most of the weapons can be found in the arks. Our guide to the ark locations tells you where you can find them in the open world of Rage 2.
Unlock new weapon levels in Rage 2
Every weapon - except for the BFG 9000 and Settler Pistol - in Rage 2 can be leveled up and upgraded. Leveling up costs you Feltrite, while upgrades require weapon core mods.
You can get Feltrite from eliminated enemies, from storage crates, and from the small blue Feltrite engines that can be found throughout the game world.
The Feltrite cost is the same for each weapon:
- Level 2: 250 Feltrit
- Level 3: 500 Feltrit
- Level 4: 750 Feltrit
- Level 5: 1000 Feltrit
Once you have unlocked a new level of a weapon, you can purchase upgrades using the weapon core mods. At level 2 and 4 you have the choice between two different upgrades. You can only purchase one of these two upgrades.
However, at level 2 in the Kill & Destroy project, you can purchase the Weapon Tinkering Expert. This will allow you to switch between weapon upgrades at any time from now on.
Where can I find weapon core mods in Rage 2?
You can get weapon core mods - just like car parts and nanotrite boosters - from Ark Chests. These are scattered all over the game world. However, you'll mainly find them in bandit hideouts. Once you have uncovered a hideout on the map, you will be shown whether there is an Ark Chest there.
So it's worth stopping along the way and clearing out the bandit lairs. To help you find the Ark Chests in the camps, you can also unlock the Ark Chest Tracking in Dr. Kvasir's Search & Recovery project at level 4. This will show you on the compass when you are near an Ark Chest.

Settlers Pistol & BFG 9000: The Premium Weapons
You will get the Settler Pistol towards the end of the Cult of the God of the Dead mission, but it was only available to pre-orderers. To find the BFG 9000 in the game, you need to own it. Then you will find the weapon in the winding canyons shortly after the start of the game.
However, neither weapon has any upgrade options. The BFG 9000 from Doom doesn't really need them, though, with its enormous firepower.
