Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade: This is how much time you can spend in Midgar

Developer Square Enix has decided to split the remake of the classic role-playing game Final Fantasy 7 into several episodes. The first part is set exclusively in the Midgar region, which makes up about ten percent of the entire game in the original. Square Enix has not yet answered precisely how many episodes are planned.

The developers have already compared the game to Final Fantasy 13, whose story spans a total of three games. It's possible that we can also expect three parts in the Final Fantasy 7 remake. But: Just completing the main story of the first part without additional side quests will tie you in front of the screen for many hours.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade: Playtime for a minimalistic story conclusion

The main story of the game spans 18 chapters, of which chapters 9 and 17 are the longest. We've broken down how much time you'll need approximately if you're only interested in the story here:

  • Difficulty level Classic or Easy, story only, no side quests, minimal exploration: about 20 hours
  • Difficulty level Normal, only story, no side quests, minimum exploration: about 30 hours
  • Difficulty level Hard (only available after one playthrough), story only, no side quests, minimum exploration: about 40 hours

Depending on which difficulty level you play on, the main story alone will keep you busy for between 20 and 40 hours. According to the website HowLongToBeat, players need an average of 33 hours and 37 minutes to complete it.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade: Playtime for the story including all side quests

In addition to the 18 story chapters, you can also complete 26 side quests in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. These include the search for missing Chocobos and the looting of Don Corneo's treasure chambers. If you complete all of the side quests, you'll have a few more hours of gameplay:

  • Difficulty level Classic or Easy, story including all side quests and thorough exploration: about 30 hours
  • Difficulty level Normal, story including all side quests and thorough exploration: about 40 hours
  • Hard difficulty, story including all side quests without extensive exploration: about 45 hours

Depending on the difficulty level, you can add a good 10 hours to the playing time of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade when completing all side quests. If you play on Hard, the additional playtime is only about 5 hours longer, since you already know many routes and secrets from the first playthrough and will spend less time exploring the game world.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade: Playing time for full completion with platinum trophy

FF7 Remake Intergrade: Increase the game time with mini-games

There's always time for a quick round of darts in Final Fantasy 7 Remake!

If you're totally captivated by Midgar, you can spend quite a bit of time playing minigames and other activities aside from the main story and side quests. These include:

  • The minigame Darts in the bar Seventh Heaven. If you crack the high score there, you can win a Lucky Boost Materia. You can also return to the bar and just play a relaxing round of darts.
  • In the slums of Sector 5, you can play the Whack-a-Box mini-game in the children's hideout, where you have to destroy boxes with Cloud under time pressure. While chasing the high score, you can win Mogry medals and other prizes.
  • If you're a real fan of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake soundtrack, you can also go in search of records with the character and battle themes. You can then listen to them at the jukeboxes in the game. If you find the complete record collection, you'll also receive a trophy for it.
  • If you like reaction games, you can challenge the bodybuilders in the gym at Wallmarkt to a squat or pull-up duel with Cloud or Tifa. You'll have to repeatedly enter a key combination correctly, which will get faster and faster over time. The prize for beating the strongest opponent is a master belt.
  • In the PS5-exclusive Intermission DLC, you can also spend a lot of time playing the addictive Fort Kondor mini-game.
