With the latest update to Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, developer Eidos Montréal introduces the Save Rollback feature. This allows you to repair game saves that you are stuck in. We'll show you how to perform the Save Rollback.

What is the Save Rollback feature in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy?

At release, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy struggled with minor bugs. There were situations where it was not possible to interact with a door or activate a control panel. Sometimes Star-Lord would also get stuck on a rock or stuck in a wall. Usually, you can work around these situations by loading the last checkpoint and trying again. In rare cases, however, the bug persisted and you had to start the game from the beginning.

With the Save Rollback, developer Eidos now introduces a feature that allows you to save these situations. It resets the game state and lets you restart the game at a freely selectable, already completed chapter. However, collectibles and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy outfits (Guide) are retained. Perks and abilities will be reset to the level you had at the beginning of the chapter.

As of this game version, Save Rollback is available

If you are caught in a situation where you can't continue the score in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, it's time for the Save Rollback. Make sure that you have downloaded the latest version of the game, which was included in an update dated November 17, 2021.

The save rollback is possible from the following version numbers:

  • PS4 / PS5: version 1.05
  • Xbox One: Version 1.6
  • Xbox Series: Version 2.6

How to save savegames in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy

Load your broken save game and return to the main menu from there. Open the "Replay Chapter" menu and select the desired starting point. Once the game is loaded, press pause to enter the in-game menu. There, the options "Save" and "Load" are not selectable - this is intentional.

To activate the functions, press the following keys simultaneously:

  • PlayStation 4 / PlayStation 5: L1, L2, and triangle key
  • Xbox One / Xbox Series S/X: Left on the directional pad, LT and Y key
  • Nintendo Switch: L, ZL, and X button

Now the "Save" option should be selectable again. If possible, save the game state in an empty slot. If you don't have any left, don't use your main game save. You can recognize it by the green checkmark in the upper right corner. After saving, the game automatically loads the main menu. Open the "Load" menu. There you will see that the green tick is now attached to the save game you just created. This is now your main savegame.

Load it and you will see that saving and loading are again selectable in the pause menu. The game saves automatically at the usual checkpoints and the annoying bug is history. In rare cases, it can happen that individual collectibles that you have already found still do not appear in the Galactic Compendium. According to Eidos Montréal, these will still be recorded by the game and added to your score for the respective trophies in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy (Guide) added.
