Besides our tips we also have a guide to all secret characters in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 2 and to all hidden stages in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 2.

Manual, Revert & Wallplant - The tricks for long combos!

For the following tricks, make sure you have the default move set selected in the game options under Mods. If you choose the classic THPS1 control, the following three tricks are not available, with the THPS2 control you can only access the Manual, but not Reverts and Wallplants.

How does a manual work?

Manual is a trick where you balance on the front or back wheels of the skateboard. You use this trick on normal surfaces to get to the next ramp or rail without breaking your combo. Manuals are performed by quickly pressing up and then down - or vice versa - on the directional pad. Depending on whether you want to perform a normal manual or a nose manual.

To continue combos, execute the command while jumping before landing on flat ground to continue directly in manual.

How do I do a revert in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater?

A revert is a way to continue your combo when you come down from a halfpipe - for example, after a lip trick or a halfpipe jump. To do a revert, press one of the rear shoulder buttons (R2/RT or L2/LT) while riding down the halfpipe. If you do it correctly, your skater will turn 180 degrees and you can go straight into a manual to continue your combo.

Instead of a revert, you can also press a back shoulder button (R2/RT or L2/LT) in mid-air on a vertical ramp to bring the character into the horizontal position. This will not land you back in the ramp, but on top of it, where you can continue the combo with a grind on the edge of the ramp or a manual.

You can also use this trick to save yourself if you accidentally jump off a ramp and don't land on another ramp, but land vertically on the ground. By pressing the shoulder button you will get back to the horizontal position and won' t fall down.

How do I execute the Wallplant?

The wallplant, which was also called stickerslap in earlier Tony Hawk games, lets you jump off walls. To do this, jump towards a wall and press the jump button again upon impact. Your character will perform a wall jump, so to speak, after which you can continue your combo.

The Wallie - How do I reach high areas & collectibles?

The wallie is an extremely good trick that allows you to reach high places in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Remake. To perform a wallie, you must first perform a wallride, which requires you to jump along a wall and press the grind button. While riding the wall, you can jump again and get much higher than would be possible with a normal ollie.

Here you can see how high you can jump with a wallie.

Some combo routes and collectibles in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 2 are only accessible through wallies, so be sure to add this trick to your arsenal.

How do I jump high & far enough for each gap?

Gaps in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 2 are specific sections in the level that you can incorporate into your tricks. To do this, you'll need to do tricks at, over, or with significant level features, such as a trick over the kicker gap ramps in the warehouse. Gaps you've managed are displayed in blue lettering by the tricks, and are often part of the park objectives in Skate Tour mode.

By the way, if you want to get the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 2 platinum trophy, you have to do every gap on every stage to get the golden Gap Master trophy.

Boneless over the warehouse kicker gab (Skater: Jamie Thomas in THPS1 2)

Especially in later stages like Downhill Jam or Philadelphia, you will have to jump very high and far to reach the park goals. Learn the tricks Boneless and No Comply. With both tricks you jump higher and further than with a normal ollie.

How do you do a Boneless in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 2?

To do a boneless you have to press up twice and then press the jump button. We recommend you to play with the directional pad, because you will perform this and many other trick commands much faster and more precisely this way. You can also hold down the Ollie button, then press up twice and release the Ollie to perform the Boneless.

How do you perform a No Comply?

The No Comply trick is even simpler. Just press up once and then perform an ollie. However, the No Comply doesn't get you quite as high as the Boneless. You can also use both tricks on vert ramps and in combos in general.

To complete all the gaps, make sure you have enough run-up beforehand and that your special bar is full. It's even easier if you collect the Tony Hawk logos in the levels, which you can invest in your skater's status values. Especially the stats Hangtime, Ollie and Speed help in the Gap Challenges.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 2: How do I use special tricks & the special bar?

To perform special tricks in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 2, first fill up the special bar located at the top left of the screen. Land a short combo and the bar should be filled, from then on you can use all equipped special tricks.

While the special bar is filled, you also skate faster and can jump higher. As soon as you fall down, you have to fill the bar again.

You can equip special tricks individually for each character in the Skater menu under Tricks. Each character in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Remake has up to ten special trick slots, which you unlock bit by bit. You can choose the key combination for the tricks yourself. For us, the "Up, Down or Down, Up the respective key" command is the easiest to execute, so we'll take this for the tricks we use the most.

What are the best special tricks in Tony Hawk Remake?

In the special tricks selection of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 2, you can view the tricks by all categories (Grab, Flip, Grind, Lip and Manual) and equip them on the respective skaters. For each trick you will see the points you get for standing that special trick. If we go by points only, these are the best special tricks in the game:

  • The best grab special tricks:
    • The 900 - 9000 points
    • 360 Varial Mctwist - 5000 points
    • Weddle Backflip - 4500 points
    • FS 540 - 4500 points
  • The best flip special tricks:
    • Misty Flip - 5000 points
    • Ghetto Bird - 3500 points
    • Kickflip Backflip - 3000 points

Here you can see the special trick menu and The 900 trick in Tony Hawk''s Pro Skater 1 2.

Keep in mind, however, that tricks with high scores are also much harder to land. Special tricks like Tony Hawk's legendary 900-grab have a very long animation that must be completed before you touch the ground to avoid crashing. So you can only perform such tricks on particularly high jumps, whereas tricks with fewer points - like a Pizza Guy (1500 points) - are much easier to incorporate into combos.

So equip a mix of short and long special tricks for your character to have the optimal trick for every situation. By the way, this distinction is not so significant for grind, lip and manual special tricks. All grind special tricks earn 400 or 500 points, all lip tricks earn 400 points, and all manual special tricks earn 1400 points.

So which one you choose is up to you. However, since these tricks don't make much of a difference, equip only one special trick from each of these categories to free up the other slots for the many different flip and grab special tricks.

General Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 2 tips

  • It's best to play with the directional pad instead of the analog stick. Special trick commands can be entered much more precisely this way.
  • The tutorial is a bit hidden, you can find it under Headquarters>Extras>Tutorials. However, if you've read this guide, you should already have all the important info. The tutorial in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 2 is for people who have never played a Tony Hawk game before.
  • How do I select a different character? In the skater menu you have to press the grind button (triangle/Y) to select a character other than Tony Hawk.
  • Do the old cheats from THPS1 & THPS2 work? Unfortunately no, but some earlier cheats can be selected under Options>Mods. However, these are only gameplay aids like perfect balance when grinding or that the special bar is always filled. After you have reached 100 percent of all park goals, you unlock more mods like graphic filters, giant skaters and dwarf skaters.
  • Are there hidden characters in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 2? Yes, there is the Roswell Alien and Officer Dick, who is played by Jack Black. Find out how to get these skaters in our Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 2 guide to secret characters.

What happens when I collect the V in each level?

There is a blue V hidden in each of the 19 levels. However, as soon as you collect it, nothing happens for the time being. The V is the logo of Vicarious Visions, the development studio behind Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 2.

When you find each V, you complete the Visionary Skatepark Challenge, which unlocks the developer studio's logo. You can use this in your profile or on skaters you create yourself. However, there is neither a trophy nor an achievement for the task.
