Deadly Premonition 2 tips: 6 tricks to get you started

This guide to Deadly Premonition 2 shows you:

  • How to unlock fast travel
  • How the time limits work
  • How to earn fast money

Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise continues the cult classic from 2010. The Nintendo Switch-exclusive title takes place both after and before the first part. You should definitely have played the predecessor, even if the majority of Special Agent Francis York Morgan's adventure remains a prequel.

But even beyond the story level, there are some details to keep in mind if you want to start the game successfully. Therefore, we have six tips for you to make the beginning as pleasant as possible.

Get used to framerate and loading times

There's no use beating around the bush: Deadly Premonition 2's framerate is not up to par in the open world. The game drops down to five frames per second in the city of Le Carré, which is very jerky.

The open world runs very poorly technically - you'll have to get used to that.

Currently, there is no official patch in sight. Therefore, you will have to put up with the performance willy-nilly. The tip is anything but trivial, as you will spend a large part of the adventure on the streets. Therefore, quickly get used to the idea that the title is more of a slideshow than a smooth game outside of buildings.

You'll also have to be prepared for long loading times. Open world and buildings are separated by waiting times. Every time you want to go onto the map, you have to allow about a minute - into buildings it can even take half a minute.

Don't explore Le Carré right away!

After a short introduction, you will land in the small town of Le Carré and can explore the open world at your leisure. However, don't do that under any circumstances! Because you'll miss out on fulfilling objectives for side missions and don't even have important items at the beginning.

You can't defend yourself, for example, because you don't get the pistol until the fourth main mission. Also the fast travel is still closed to you, more about that in the next tip. Above all, you can't do much on the side.

Our tip is therefore: First complete the campaign up to the 13th mission and only then explore the open world. Then stop first at Lewis, the graveyard keeper. He will give you an album with photos of places that you should visit - a perfect task for on the side.

How do I unlock fast travel in Deadly Premonition 2?

At the beginning, you simply move the protagonist York through Le Carré with a skateboard. Keep pressing the A button to reach the fastest travel speed. You can only be even faster with the fast travel system. However, this is not available from the beginning.

As soon as you can, you should activate these balloons in the city.

You must first complete mission 12 "Quiet Ball, Good Food" and mission 11 "The Flying Serpent" in the first episode. Once Mission 13 "The Otherworld" starts, you'll pay a visit to the Casa Pineapple hotel.

Here you'll meet Raven Yahoo, who will take you to certain destinations for $2.50. On the map they are marked by a red circle, but at the beginning there are only a few points you can reach.

The red circles with the symbol show where you can fast travel.

Therefore, once you've met Raven, use your skateboard and look for balloons on a car tire in the open world. Once you loosen that a bit, you'll unlock new destinations for fast travel. Collect as many points as you can.

How does the crafting system work?

Even though the action-adventure is primarily designed for conversations, puzzles and exploration, Deadly Premonition 2 () also offers a small crafting component. In the store "Erzulie Fréda" you'll produce so-called fetishes to improve your weapon and York itself.

With chains you can upgrade your pistol and make it shoot farther and stronger. Dolls, on the other hand, mean better status values for the protagonist. For both types of items you need ingredients and some money.

In the voodoo store you can create so-called fetishes.

For example, if you want to upgrade health, you'll need $20, old cloth twice, and an oak leaf. You can find these items all over the open world. Activate your sense of intuition with the L-key and the game will show you all items in the vicinity on the minimap.

However, the improvements only become active when you use them at an altar. You can find one in the store or in York's hotel room. At the beginning, you can only attach a doll and a necklace. Buy more altar places in the store "Erzulie Fréda".

Tips on how to make your day dynamic: How do I make time pass?

Deadly Premonition 2 features a dynamic day-night system that affects many locales and NPCs. The different buildings have specific opening hours - you can enter Alexus' Diner & Lane from 08:00 to 14:00, for example.

You can see the time and day in the top left corner of the open world - in buildings, the time is always still.

So if you need to visit the diner for a quest, you can only do it at a certain time of day. Note that the game also simulates the days of the week: many stores are closed or have different opening hours on Sundays.

However, you don't need to be afraid that you will miss something. If you miss the deadline for a mission, you can simply repeat it the next day. Our tip for the system: always have enough cigarettes with you. You can fast-forward the time in the hotel bed, but the cigarettes will allow you to do that in any place.

Until six in the morning, the street belongs to these monsters.

Also, watch out: From 00:00 to 06:00, the so-called Otherworld bathes Le Carré in red light and sic monsters on you. But don't worry, with your skateboard you can avoid the enemies quickly and without any problems.

How do I earn a lot of money quickly?

A day in the hotel costs money, if you bump into passers-by with your skateboard, you need money and new ammunition and cigarettes also require some coins. Therefore, you should earn some extra money right at the beginning.

The UFOs mean some money for you every time you shoot them down.

The best methods to earn money quickly:

  • Side jobs: Most of the time you should kill wild animals. As a reward, you will receive items that you can exchange for cash at any merchant. You activate the side jobs in the police station.
  • Stamps: work like Achievements. You'll receive about $100 for walking or driving 10 miles. This way you earn a lot of money on the side.
  • UFOs: Everywhere in the city you will come across the small flying objects. Shoot them down and you'll immediately receive 20 dollars. They also have items with them that you can resell.
