Anno 1800 Palaces of Power: The best tips

In this guide to the DLC "Palaces of Power" of Anno 1800 you will learn:

  • All the basic info about the palace
  • How to increase the basic bonuses of the ministries
  • Which guidelines there are

The first expansion of the second Season Pass of Anno 1800 called "Palaces of Power" offers new possibilities in terms of content, with regard to the economy, logistics and also satisfaction of your own people. The focus is on building your own palace. Its completion has practical effects on your productions.

The palace not only loosens up your layout, but also offers many possibilities for Schönbauer to integrate it into the cityscape. How to get the most out of the DLC for your island, we tell you in the following guide. You can find more helpful tips on Anno 1800 in the linked article.

The most important information about the palace

You unlock the palace as soon as the first investor moves to the island. The construction of the main building costs $1,000,000, 100 wood, 150 bricks, 150 steel beams, 120 mirrors, 200 reinforced concrete and $5,000 upkeep. Reserve these resources before the first investor is promoted in order to receive the palace bonuses as soon as they are unlocked.

Each player can build only one palace per game. The main building can only be built in the old world or in Cape Trelawney. We recommend building it on Crown Falls Island, as the effect range is very high later in the game and is most efficient on Giant Island. The range of the palace is relatively small at first, but can be extended by building palace wings.

The more palace wings built to the palace, the higher the range of the main building.

Each palace wing increases the range of the palace by two points and the range of the ministries by one point. The effects do not come from the wings, but from the main building. Place the main building as centrally as possible to reach the entire island later. Your total population determines how many wings you are allowed to grow. You can find out when your wing limit increases in the tooltip of the palace wings.

There is room for five ministries in the palace. Each ministry has a basic bonus and five policies. One policy per ministry can be active, and its effect works together with the base bonus. These bonuses work only on the palace island. Other islands can only benefit from the effect of a regional ministry.

One regional ministry can be established per island. The basic bonus is taken from the palace island, the directive is freely chosen. The range depends on the range of the palace.

How do I strengthen the basic bonuses of the ministries?

The strength of the basic bonuses of all ministries depends on your prestige level. At 9,000 attractiveness you unlock the prestige system and reach level 1. To advance in prestige level you need 1,000 attractiveness per level. There is no level limit. In the following table you can find the basic bonus of each ministry and the increase with each prestige level:

All of the palace's ministries sit in the main building and benefit from the range.

Ministry forBasic bonusIncrease per level/building
Administration50 island workers per city hall10 island workers
Culture20 percent higher probability of specialists arriving at visitor port4 percent probability of visitors
Labor10 percent productivity for production buildings within reach of chamber of commerce2 percent productivity
Welfare10 range for all public buildings2 range
Trade200 tons of storage space on the island per harbor master's office40 storage space

If a building is to benefit from the basic bonus or a policy, it must be within range of the palace and connected to the road network. Harbour masteries placed in the middle of the harbour area must be moved to the shore. A quay wall does not have the same effect as a road and is only for decoration.

How do I increase the attractiveness of my cities?

The attractiveness value is not only important for increasing the prestige level, but also unlocks the ministries and policies. You need 7600 attractiveness to unlock all ministries and policies. The attractiveness of an island depends on these three positive and three negative factors:

Ornaments beautify the city and give attractiveness points at the same time.

Factors that increase attractiveness:

  • Culture: A completed World's Fair in Anno 1800, all ornaments, zoo animals, museum artifacts, and complete sets in the Botanical Garden
  • Celebrations
  • Nature: Unspoiled nature, forests and meadows

These factors lower the attractiveness:

  • Places ofinhospitability: all buildings that cause stench and noise, such as cattle farms and butcheries
  • Pollution: heavy industry, such as blast furnaces and cannon foundry
  • Instability: fire, diseases, wars

Application examples: How the DLC changes the way you play

  • The supply of engineers begins with electricity in Anno 1800. Large islands previously required several power plants. Due to the already expensive production chains in Anno 1800 for electricity, multiple power plants are expensive to maintain and require a lot of space. The basic bonus of the Ministry of Welfare ensures a huge range of the power plant at a high prestige level, so that often only one is needed.

  • Later in the game, there is not enough shore space. Especially when settling Crown Falls, many quartz mines and fishermen are needed, as the giant island can accommodate many inhabitants. With the Ministry of Labor, a chamber of commerce and a harbor master's office, you increase the productivity of these buildings and have to use fewer of them. Thus, you won't have to wage a war in Anno 1800 to get additional coastal places.
  • For most production islands, a Regional Ministry of Labor with the Factory Inspection directive is most appropriate. The reduced labor requirement is amplified by increased productivity, which means you'll need fewer residential buildings and have more space available for industry.
  • Unlike the ornaments, the gate element of the palace wing can be used to connect the courtyard square to the outside world. For example, a park or the museum exhibition can be integrated here.
