New World: 7 tips for getting started in the MMO

Welcome to Aeternum! This fictional island is the center of the new MMO New World from Amazon Studios. It takes you on an exciting adventure in which you literally work your way up from scratch to become a successful warrior. However, the scope of the MMO can be quite overwhelming, especially for newcomers, so you'll learn more in this guide:

Pick up everything that falls in front of you

In the first few minutes of the game, you'll be told how to move around New World, how to fight, and how to block attacks from enemies. At the beginning, you'll be taken by the hand so that you can familiarize yourself with the gameplay. However, on the way to the first camp, you should already start picking up everything that is lying around on the ground.

These are mainly bushes and flints. In the camp you can make the first tools like a knife, an axe, a pickaxe and a sickle. You can now also gather herbs, kill and cut up wild boars, as well as cut down smaller trees and quarry boulders.

However, you should also take anything else you find. Even if you can't do anything with something, it's worth disassembling the item (S left mouse button). With the resources you get, you can create new items. From some disassembled items you can even get gold.

What classes and weapons should you play?

The good thing about New World is that you don't have to choose your role in the MMO at the beginning. Ranged fighter, healer or melee fighter - that is completely irrelevant at first. Every player starts with the same basic values. Use the first hours to try out all weapon types and find the right one for you.

You can choose between

three one-handed weapons (sword & shield, rapier, axe)
three two-handed weapons (spear, battle axe, war hammer)
two ranged weapons (bow, musket)
three magic weapons (fire staff, life staff, ice gauntlets)

You will quickly notice what you feel most comfortable with. Are you more of a ranged fighter who shoots from a distance with a bow and arrow, or are you more of a person who is at the front of the pack and scores points in direct duels? Once you've found your role, adjust your attributes accordingly and shape your character more and more into the fighter of your dreams.

How do you distribute attributes?

With every level you climb, you'll receive points that you can put into your attributes. You have these five values at your disposal:

Strength
Skill
Intelligence
Concentration
Constitution

If you play a melee fighter who uses a warhammer, battleaxe, sword or axe, you put your points into Strength. If you play with a bow, rapier, spear or musket, skill is your main attribute. Intelligence should be your main attribute if you play with the fire staff or the ice gauntlets, and Concentration should be your main attribute if you play with the life staff.

The distributed attribute points will make you do more damage with the appropriate weapon. However, you have to be careful, because unfortunately it won't do you any good if you put all your points into one attribute. This can have a negative effect in the long run and lead to less damage. It is therefore advisable to distribute some points to other stats as well.

Also, don't forget to put some points into the Skill yourconstitution. This will increase your health.

How to reach the maximum level

In order to regularly distribute points to your attributes, you need to increase your level. The maximum level you can reach in New World is 60, and you can reach this level in different ways.

You'll get experience points by collecting raw materials such as herbs or wood, for example. In addition to the XP you gain, you also increase your skills in the respective activity - for example, cutting wood or gathering herbs. Crafting items such as weapons, food or clothing also grants experience points that advance your level.

You can also accept orders and missions and quest your way across the entire map. Each enemy you kill will not only give you loot, but also XP. When you reach higher levels, you should also regularly complete expeditions.

What are the benefits of joining a faction?

As soon as you visit the first small town in New World, you will be asked to choose a faction. Three of them are available to you:

Marauders
Syndicate
Alliance

However, you won't be able to choose one and change your choice later if you're not satisfied. This is only possible every 120 days. This is free of charge, but you will have to start all over again in the new faction and work your way up again. You are also not allowed to switch to the faction that is the best and most popular at the time.

Once you have chosen a faction, you will be able to use the PvP mode from now on. You will also be able to buy better items the higher your reputation is with your faction. Regularly accept the faction missions provided to you and increase your reputation, gold and level. Also, you can't join a guild until you choose one of the factions.

Lack of space? How to expand your inventory

Whether you're in an MMO or not, inventory space is always a problem. While in games like World of Warcraft you can buy bags or tailor them to carry more items, this doesn't work so easily in New World. However, you will automatically get more space in your inventory once you reach level 30 and 45.

You can create additional space by filling all the slots around your avatar. Always carry ammo in the designated slot and always distribute food. Anything you have on your body that you don't carry in your inventory will free up more space.

Raw materials that you don't need for questing can be stored in the towns. This has both advantages and disadvantages. The disadvantage is that you can only use the resources in the city where they are stored. The advantage: You don't need to fetch them from the storage there, but can start crafting directly at the workbenches.

Fast travel in New World: How does it work?

To get from A to B quickly, you can use the fast travel in the MMO - but not right at the beginning. Once you have unlocked this option, you will be able to travel to all those outposts, spirit shrines and settlements you have already visited for a small fee.

There are nomounts at this point. You will do everything on foot. It is currently unknown whether mounts will be added later.
