Darksiders Genesis: Solutions for all puzzles of the campaign

Although Darksiders Genesis looks more like Diablo 3, it remains true to its core virtues. Instead of looting and leveling, this means you fight and puzzle. Since February 14, 2020, you can also hunt monsters on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch after the versions for PC and Google Stadia.

In each area, several puzzles await you, which you have to solve in order to progress. In our guide, we'll show you how to complete the various head nuts as quickly as possible. The solutions refer to the single player mode and can vary in co-op.

Darksiders Genesis puzzle in level 1

  • Mission: Open the mysterious gate in the void

After the tutorial you will end up in the void, or at least in front of it. To get into the hub world, you need to open a gate. Jump to the left and you'll find the Vorpal Blade, which only War can use.

With the Vorpal Blade you can aim at several targets one after the other.

Use it to target the blue stone hanging to the right of the entrance. Behind it you activate a vortex with the combination of blade and stone, with which you float over an abyss. Finally, first aim at the fire, then at the two extinguished torches, and the puzzle is solved.

Riddle in level 2

  • Mission: Deactivate the runes that protect Vulgrim's artifact

You have to activate these runes one by one.

The second big puzzle is quite simple. You'll end up in the boss arena, only without a boss. On the floor you will see three active symbols, which you have to eliminate one by one. No matter in which order you rattle off the three following paths.

At the end of each path there are enemies waiting for you, which you have to defeat first. After that, you'll only ever have to use firebombs to clear the prominent obstacles out of the way and activate a panel. Once you've reached all three locations, the shallow puzzle is over and it's on to the level's boss.

Puzzles in level 3

  • Mission: Find the entrance to the Inferno Chamber

As soon as the bomb explodes, activate the switch.

The first big task in the third level is to reach the inferno chamber. The path is quite linear, but it has a small puzzle. Once you've reached the blast furnace, you first have to move back the spikes at the hill with the lever on the left.

After that you'll stand in front of a gate with two levers - no problem with two people. If you are alone, you will need a little trick: further down you will find a bomb. Throw it on one of the switches and activate the other lever at the same moment.

Riddle in level 4

  • Mission: Light the beacons

Next to each beacon you will always find flames.

In the fourth level you will land in a rather large area, where you have to light four be acons. In each corner you will come across an extinguished ember, which you quickly light with other fireplaces and the Vorpal Blade.

However, before that you have to fight against some enemies each time. Spear-throwers are waiting for you in the south, lava-spitting enemies in the west, lots of small livestock and a big demon in the east, and spear-throwers again in the north. Ignite all the spots and the puzzle is solved.

  • Task: Empty bomb puzzle

Throw bombs at the pillar through the portals.

In the dungeon you will inevitably find the empty bombs for Strife. This is a purple weapon that you use as a portal. To do this, always throw a bomb at the marked spots on the wall. Only two portals can be active at a time. If you start the third throw, the oldest passage will disappear automatically.

For the first section, you simply use the portals to move around. After that, you'll come across a prominent pillar. Throw a bomb directly behind it at the wall and throw a normal bomb through it, which you will find at the side. This clears the way and you also know how exactly the items work.

  • Task: Open the gate to the void

At the top left you can see the switch, at the right the portal point.

At the end of chapter four you have to open a gate after the fight against the magma dog. The switch is on the left above your figure and therefore out of reach. Opposite you can already see a portal point. Shoot it with the empty bomb and climb onto a ledge in the left part of the arena.

There you set another portal, collect the bomb on the spot and throw it through the fire into the passage. The explosive thus lands on the switch and you quickly scurry through the gate.

Darksiders Genesis puzzle in level 6

  • Task: Hit the right switches

Already above the gate is the solution for all to see.

In the sixth level, you will enter the Shrine of Vanity and find a grid with six blue stones. However, you can't activate all of them right away, otherwise your rider will suffer damage. The solution to the riddle is quite simple: take a closer look at the surroundings.

You can see symbolsabove the gate and below the targets. All you have to do is drop the corresponding stones (the first and the fourth) and the gate will open. Then quickly grab the bomb with your grappling arm and throw it at the switch.

This principle also applies to the other puzzles in this room: just look at which stones you have to hit to solve the puzzles.

Puzzles in level 7

  • Task: Recover the crystal keys

Thanks to the trajectory of the bomb, you will also reach the point behind the wall.

During the level, you will come across a gate that you can only open with two crystal keys. Go back the way you came and turn left. Enter the chamber on the far left and you'll have to fight a few enemies. After that, use Strife to throw a blank bomb over the obstacle to the corresponding point and one to the wall. Grab the bomb through the portals, throw it at the orange rocks and the first key is yours.

Go back out of the small area and enter the area on the far right on the same passage. Here you will kill a few enemies again. Then stand on the switch on the ground, create portals again with the empty bomb and throw the vorpal blade through it with War. This will open a grate and the second key is yours.

  • Task: Create the labyrinth

Once the second switch is activated, climb up the hill and jump through the hole in the fence.

Near the mine you will see a small labyrinth-like area. A small puzzle awaits you here. Enter the area through the door and shoot a few demons first. Now throw an empty bomb on the left against the wall. Use the first lever in the next room and quickly run through the now open gate - because it also closes again quickly.

Use the next lever behind it and run to the gate again. It's best to jump through the gap in the fence to save distance. Now you have reached another portal point, on which you throw another purple bomb.

Go back through the portal to the beginning. Throw the bomb at the wall through the connection, run to the first switch and now you can run through the two grates that have become free. At the end, just activate one more lever and the maze is done.

Puzzle solution in level 11

  • Task: Use the ether spark

You have to guide the ball without contacting the barrier.

In chapter eleven you will find the ether spark. You can use it to uncover boxes and objects in old areas. Basically, you start a game of skill with the device rather than a puzzle.

You have to reach a symbol on the wall and start at a symbol with three dots on the floor. You steer your spark through the levels on a two-dimensional plane, but you must not touch the white border once.

Puzzle in level 14

  • Mission: Open the wall in the north

Once you are in the air, throw the switch by blade.

In the huge area far to the north you will find a special wall that you can open. To do so, activate two blue stones on the map. You will find the first one quite quickly. Fight your way to the wooden scaffold and climb to the top. Take the elevator on the left side and you will pass some towers with explosives. Here you will find the first switch, which you drop with the vorpal blade as before.

For the second switch, go back to the top of the scaffold, but now run to the right. At a corner you will see an anchor point, which you can use to pull yourself to the cliffs. Here you will see two portal points, which you connect with the empty bombs. Select War, use a stomp attack through the portal, switch to Vorpal Blade in midair and activate the switch. Behind the wall, a large chest awaits you.

  • Task: Bring the bomb to the wall

Just throw the bomb at the wall directly opposite - you'll simply collect it there later.

Once you have fought your way through the underground, you will land at a place where numerous elevators are moving back and forth. Jump over the empty platforms to the bomb. Now you can simply throw it straight at the wall, or jump from elevator to elevator - but the former is much easier.

Go to the right with the bomb and you will see a wall that you can blow up with it. Throw the item through the fire against it and the way is clear.
