Marvel's Spider-Man 2: All info & rumors about the sequel

In our guide to Marvel's Spider-Man 2 we inform you:

  • Which characters could return in Marvel's Spider-Man 2
  • Which villains you can expect to see in the sequel
  • Whether Peter Parker will remain Spider-Man
  • When the sequel could appear

After the successful Marvel's Spider-Man, gamers are clamoring for a sequel to the PlayStation 4 exclusive hit, and it appears developer Insomniac Games already has one in development. We speculate what Marvel's Spider-Man 2 could be about.

Caution, spoilers! Following are details about the end of the main story of Marvel's Spider-Man.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Doc Ock is out for revenge

Marvel's Spider-Man ends with the boss fight against Doctor Octopus. In a spectacular fight, we defeat Doc Ock on the roof of Oscorp Tower and take from him the antidote for the virus he released, Devil's Breath.

Just before the credits, we see Doc Ock being taken to a prison cell. The scene ends with a close-up of his grim, vengeful face.

Doc Ock behind bars

This sequence clearly shows that the fight between Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus is not over yet. Doc Ock will probably not stay in prison forever and will want to take revenge on Spider-Man sooner or later. Whether that will only happen in Marvel's Spider Man 2 or perhaps already in a DLC remains to be seen.

Miles Morales: A new Spider-Man

But if you think you've seen it all once the credits roll, you're wrong. As in the current films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is a mid-credits scene in Marvel's Spider-Man as well as one right after.

In the mid-credit scene, we see Peter Parker moving into his new apartment with the help of his buddy Miles Morales. In the course of the plot, Miles has been bitten by one of the radioactive spiders that already bit Peter. And so Miles shows off his powers by jumping to the ceiling. Peter does the same, revealing to Miles his identity as Spider-Man.

Peter Parker & Miles Moralis hang out

Comic book readers know that this may not be a good omen for Peter Parker. That's because in the comic book original, Miles Morales takes over the role of Spider-Man after Peter Parker's death.

So in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, will we perhaps slip into the role of Peter Parker and Miles Morales? Will the two fight side by side? Or does Peter Parker die during the course of the second installment's story? Hopefully we'll find out in the not too distant future.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Is Harry Osborn Venom?

In the post-credits scene, we see Norman Osborn enter a secret room. Here we are shown his son Harry Osborn for the first time. He lies in a tank of green liquid, surrounded by black webs - reminiscent of the symbiote Venom - in an artificial coma.

The black webs seem to respond to Norman Osborn's voice. Fans of the symbiote know that its stretchy alien skin behaves similarly.

Are we seeing Venom here?

But what is actually going on with the Green Goblin aka Norman Osborn? In Norman Osborn's office, we find prototypes of the Green Goblin's mask and classic pumpkin bombs (grenades with enormous blast radius) as Mary Jane.

Are the two main villains of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 being teased here? Are they going to fight Peter Parker and Miles Morales together?

Or does Harry Osborn perhaps break out as Venom out and terrorizing the city - as speculated on Reddit - so his father Norman uses the Green Goblin's suit and technology to recapture him?

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 confirmed yet?

Marvel's Spider-Man was one of the biggest video game hits in 2018, and while the sequel hasn't been officially confirmed by Insomniac yet, after the huge success of the first part, a sequel seems relatively certain.

Unofficially, this has now been confirmed by video game journalist Imran Khan. In an interview, he let it be known that he "knows too much about Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and therefore doesn't need to speculate".

Furthermore, he added that Spider-Man 2 could be coming sooner than we think, referring to the 2021 holiday season. Since it is now officially confirmed that the PlayStation 5 will be released in 2020 at Christmas time, a PS5 release is more than likely.
