Metroid Dread Boss Guide: How to defeat them all

In this Metroid Dread boss guide you will learn:

  • How many bosses there are in Metroid Dread
  • Where to find the bosses
  • What you need to know when fighting the giant monsters

Metroid Dread is an old-school action platformer. Of course, one thing can't be missing: challenging boss fights. There are plenty of them in the latest adventure of heroine Samus. In this guide, we'll show you where to expect them and how to defeat them.

Metroid Dread Boss Number 1: Corpious

Corpious is the first boss fight that awaits you in Metroid Dread. You'll meet the creature in the east of Artaria. Its weak point is its head. Charged shots and missiles are the most effective. It attacks Samus with its tail and spits poison balls. If you destroy them, they leave life energy and ammo.

There are blue magnetic fields on the left and right walls. Climb in to avoid his attacks. But don't stay there too long, or Corpious will take you down. As soon as the monster turns invisible, aim at the glowing sphere. As a reward, the Phantom Suit awaits you, which you can use to camouflage yourself from the EMMIS in Metroid Dread (Guide).

The first Metroid Dread boss is Corpious. You will meet him in Astaria.

Metroid Dread boss number 2: Kraid

With Kraid you will meet an old acquaintance from previous Metroid parts in the southwest of Cataris. His weak point is his open mouth. Feed him with missiles and charged beams. The behemoth hurls its claws at Samus. Dodge them or shoot them to save your life energy and ammo.

After you've wandered down a floor, its open belly becomes a weak point. Loaded shots and rockets will help here as well. His projectiles will hit the wall on the left and serve you as a staircase. Climb up and latch onto the blue area with the spider magnet. From there you can work on Kraid's head again.

Kraid awaits you in Cataris. As soon as you crash through the floor, blast some missiles into the hole in his stomach.

Metroid Dread Boss Number 3: Chozo Robo Soldiers

You will have to deal with the Chozo Robo Soldiers twice - in Ferenia and Ghavoran. In Ferenia, he awaits you at the southwestern end between the two crossings to Dairon and confronts you right after you meet the purple EMMI. In Ghavoran, you will encounter a golden version of the soldier above the southern crossing to Burenia.

The Chozo soldier keeps trying to transition into melee combat. Keep your distance with Flash Shift and hit him with missiles and charged beams. Keep switching between ground and platforms. This way you make it harder for the robot to hit you. The Chozo soldier fires three volleys at Samus. Try to jump between the projectiles.

If he charges his cannon, wait about two seconds and jump forward diagonally to avoid the beam. If the robot raises its blade for close combat, you can counter it as described in our Metroid Dread tips guide. This will give you ammo and life energy. If he charges the blade with red energy, jump up with Flash Shift as soon as he thrusts forward.

You will encounter the Chozo Robo Soldiers several times in Metroid Dread.

Metroid Dread boss number 4: Drogyga

The monster Drogyga awaits you in the north of Burenia. Drogyga sucks energy with its tentacle. Destroy it with well-aimed shots so that the turbines start working again. Then fire charged beam shots at the two now active big buttons at the edge of the room.

You can get to the right side via the magnetic rail on the ceiling. Once both buttons are activated, drain the water and Drogyga will dehydrate. In this state you can fire at her core until she picks herself up again and floods the room. You'll have to repeat this process a few times.

Attack Drogyga's tentacles to deprive the Metroid Dread boss of vital water.

Metroid Dread Boss Number 5: Chozo Soldier

Chozo Soldiers will make your life difficult a total of five times. You will meet them in Elun, Ghavoran, Artaria and twice in Hanubia. They act similarly to the Chozo Robo Soldier with ranged and melee attacks. Make a Wall Jump and switch sides with Flash Shift to gain distance and dodge the attack with the spear. Missiles inflict the most damage.

If you are fighting a variant with a shield, you can destroy it with a well-timed counterattack. If the Chozo soldier raises the shield briefly to prepare an attack, a white glow will briefly appear. At this exact moment, you need to press the counter button. After that, fire from all guns.

Alternatively, you can destroy shields with missiles, but that takes much longer. With the elite Chozo soldier you can solve the shield problem only with the Grapple Beam. Execute the counterattack as described above and take away his shield immediately afterwards with the Grapple Beam while he is still dazed.

Five different Chozo soldiers await you in Metroid Dread.

Metroid Dread Boss Number 6: Escue

After defeating the blue EMMI in Ferenia and obtaining the Ice Missiles, you will encounter Escue in southeastern Ferenia. The flying monster fires purple energy balls that detonate on impact. Dodge them and jump into the air before they explode. Escue is vulnerable once the purple energy bolts around him disappear.

Hit him with ice missiles and charged beam shots for maximum damage. In his X-Parasite form, Escue is invulnerable for a short time after being hit and deals a lot of damage each time he touches you. Dodge him and collect the escaping parasites to get energy and ammo.

Destroy the black orbs in battle with Escue to grab some energy and ammo.

Metroid Dread Boss Number 7: Chozo Robot Soldier Duo

You will also have to deal with the robot tag team several times. They challenge you in Ferenia and Burenia. The fights are similar to the ones with the Chozo Robot Soldier. Keep your distance with Flash Shift and use Ice Missiles to slow down the robots. Try to focus on one robot and take it out of play. This is best done with Storm Missiles.

If the Chozo Robosal Data attack you in tandem, it's best to kill them one by one

Metroid Dread Boss Number 8: Experiment No. Z-57

The giant spider Experiment No. Z-57 will teach you the fear in Cataris. You'll meet the boss after ADAM suggests you explore the Cataris Power Plant. Dodge the powerful blows with Space Jumps. Try to keep yourself in the upper third of the screen with them. Aim at thespider's head with Storm Missiles as soon as you come to a stop between its attacks.

If Z-57 uses his laser, you'll reach the safe area with a Flash Shift while the laser briefly stops. Be careful not to land in the pink puddles of acid. If the spider moves to the side edge, it fires a laser beam and slowly pulls it down from above.

Move close to the spider's body and fire at its head. Just before the laser reaches you, the spider will start to bite and open its mouth. At this moment, counter the attack and fire as many missiles as you can at the many-legged creature.

This giant spider creature is Experiment No. Z-57 and awaits you in Cataris.

Metroid Dread Boss Number 9: Golzuna

Defeat Golzuna in Ghavoran and you will be rewarded with the Cross Bomb in Metroid Dread. Boss Golzuna mutates into larger and larger, already familiar enemy types as the fight progresses, until he finally reaches his final form. You can finally defeat him in the X-Parasite form.

The weak point is at the back of the colossus. Therefore, try to stay behind him as much as possible and hit him with missiles. To do this, you can either jump over him or slide between his legs when he rears up. When Golzuna reaches his maximum size, he starts dropping Cross Bombs. They detonate in a rectangular shape or chase Samus. Dodge them with a flash shift.

Golzuna is a master of mutation. Take his X Parasite form, dodge him and collect the parasites.

Metroid Dread Boss Number 10: Raven Beak

You first meet Raven Beak at the beginning of the game, when he relieves Samus of her equipment. The final encounter takes place in Itorash. The Metroid suit and the Hyper Beam await you as a reward. The best way to avoid his melee attacks and lasers is to use Flash Shift and Space Jumps.

The final boss in Metroid Dread: Raven Beak.

Phase 1 in the boss fight with Raven Beak

Raven Beak has an energy shield in this phase of the boss fight. Weaken it with charge beams and missiles. After that, you'll be able to counter his blows. If he sends out one of his massive laser beams, you'll have to crouch down at the edge of the arena to take cover. If Raven Beak throws a black, growing energy ball into the room, destroy it with missiles or the Power Bomb. This will recharge your ammunition.

Phase 2 in the boss fight with Raven Beak

In the second round, Raven Beak begins to spread his wings and attack you from the air. He glides down from above at lightning speed. As soon as he lights up yellow, quickly dodge to the side and open fire. Dodge his missiles with space jumps. When he charges his charge beam, jump up so that he aims upwards. This way, the beam will go nowhere while you fall.

Phase 3 in the boss fight with Raven Beak

If Raven Beak loses a wing, the fight shifts back to the ground. His attacks will proceed similarly to the first phase. Fire as many missiles at him as possible. If he sends out a yellow energy ball, immediately prepare a Power Bomb. This will destroy it and give you life energy and missiles. Once you've done enough damage to him, you'll have to parry a melee attack in a short sequence to reach the finale.

Phase 4 in the boss fight with Raven Beak

In this phase, an X-Parasite takes over the boss and transforms him into Raven Beak X. The fight is similar to killing an EMMIS: Hold the Charged Hyper Beam directly on the mutant's face until the energy beam finishes it off.
