Just become the boss of a gangster empire: Saints Row makes this wish come true, at least virtually. We show you what you should pay attention to at the beginning of your criminal career.

Don't get distracted by the Open World

Do you want to miss out on the open world in an open-world game? You can already let off steam in the open game world in Saints Row after the prologue, but many activities and collecting tasks - for example the collectibles for the embellishment of your headquarters - are only unlocked after a few main missions. Therefore, follow the story first before exploring the game world.

How do I upgrade my weapons in Saints Row?

As a criminal genius, you'll naturally need powerful guns. The weapons available at the beginning aren't bad, but at the latest when you tackle combat-heavy side activities - such as liberating neighborhoods - you'll need a decent and, above all, highly upgraded arsenal of weapons.

Check out dealer challenges for your weapons' iconic abilities.

Each weapon has an iconic ability. These are permanent improvements that make a weapon stronger or grant it an additional function. For example, you can convert the semi-automatic Idols pistol into an automatic pistol.

You won't unlock iconic abilities with money. You have to complete certain challenges with the weapons, such as killing 20 enemies from a rooftop with a headshot. Most skills are not very time-consuming, so it's worth working directly towards iconic skills when you get new weapons.

How do I unlock new skills?

In the skills app on your smartphone, you unlock passive improvements such as more health as well as special attacks for combat. By the way, you can't buy grenades from the merchant, but you have to equip them as an infinitely rechargeable special attack in the Skills app. There are a total of 20 unlocks, all of which are tied to your level. Each time you level up, you unlock a new ability.

You can see which perk you'll unlock next in the perk app.

There's also the perks app, where you buy slots for permanent improvements for money. The improvements themselves don't cost money, but you get them as rewards for completing challenges.

How do I tune my car in Saints Row?

As a real gangster, you'll need an appropriate car to attract everyone's attention. You can customize cars in Jimrob's workshop and equip them with other special features. The workshop is unlocked after you help Jimrob during the main story.

In the workshop you can increase durability, power, top speed and off-road maneuverability using up to three upgrade kits. However, you'll have to buy the upgrade kits separately for each car.

In Jimrob's workshop you can pimp your car for money.

Just like with the weapons, you can also unlock iconic abilities for your cars by completing special challenges. We also advise you to buy the following two upgrade kits as early as possible:

  • Offroad Kitallows you to drive off the road without any problems.
  • Tow Rope: A rope that lets you grab and tow cars and other objects.

Saints Row is set in a desert and there are a lot of shortcuts that go off-road. If you drive without an off-road kit, you will constantly lose control of your car. This is annoying - so get an off-road kit for each car as early as possible.

How do I unlock fast travel?

You can travel to your Saints HQ at any time, but you will need to unlock more fast travel points first. On the map you will see yellow icons with a train on them - these are the fast travel locations.

The game will show you at what angle you need to photograph a landmark to activate a Fast Travel Point.

To use the points, you need to go to the location and take a photo of the local landmark. Only then will that location be unlocked for fast travel on the map.
