Anno 1800 - Rich harvest: tips and tricks for the fattest potatoes

Only the dumbest farmers harvest the fattest potatoes? Dream on, because in this guide to Anno 1800 - Rich Har vest you learn,

  • what you need for the DLC "Rich Harvest" for Anno 1800.
  • how to optimize your farms with silos and tractors.
  • which new content will be added to the game for free.

With the new DLC "Rich Harvest" for Anno 1800, which is available since June 02, 2020, the industrial revolution moves into your agriculture. With silos and tractors you can further optimize your farms and livestock. In the following guide, we'll help you get your farmers up to speed.

The starting requirements for Anno 1800 - Rich Harvest

In order to tinker with your agriculture, you need the DLC "Rich Harvest" of Anno 1800, which you can buy individually or together in the Season Pass 2. You don 't need to start a new game for the expansion - when you load an old savegame, you will be asked if you want to activate the DLC. However, this decision is final for that particular savegame.

You will need different population levels for the optimization. Whereas the silos are already unlocked at the "worker" population level, you already need engineers for tractors. Once you have fulfilled the respective requirements, your inhabitants will automatically offer you quest chains.

What free content will Anno 1800 have?

Even without the expansion, you will get a few free innovations for the basic game with the release of the new DLC. The Kontor, for example, gets an additional expansion level, which brings more market carts and more space in the warehouse. These are available in both the old and the new world.

In addition, the item system has been revised and made clearer. In the statistics screen you will now find a new tab that lists all your items and shows exactly where they are currently used. This way you can also optimize your items even more precisely and overlook items less often.

Even people who don't own the DLC will get some extras. For example, the Kontor and warehouses will be expanded by one level

Of course, the developers have also added some detail improvements. For example, you can optionally hide electricity pylons if they annoy you, and 50 tons are now automatically selected when loading goods. Of course, you can still adjust this manually. But let's now get fully into the actual DLC.

How do the silos work in Anno 1800: Rich Harvest?

The silos are additional extensions that you can add to existing livestock farms. The silos unlock as soon as you can build grain farms - that is, at the "Worker" population level.

The silos increase the productivity of your livestock to 200% - or in other words, they halve the production time of your livestock farms. However, in order for the silos to work to their advantage, you need grain. The use of grain is quite economical, since only one ton of grain is needed every five minutes per livestock farm.

So that you do not get confused with the values, here again in detail listed:

Prerequisite
  • Population level: Worker
  • Resource:
    Grain
Usable buildingsSheep farm, Pig farm, Cattle farm, Alpaca farm
Consumption
  • 1t grain / 5 min
Bonus

  • Productivity to 200%
    (production costs halved)

Anno 1800 - Rich Harvest: How to build tractors?

The second major new feature in the farming DLC is the tractors. This upgrade is a bit trickier to implement, if only because of the requirement of 500 engineers in one of your cities. This unlocks the fuel production chain and the tractor barn.

Once you have the necessary prerequisites, the game will prompt you with a newspaper message and a small tutorial quest.

Tractor barn? Fuel? That sounds a lot like the need for oil, and that's exactly what it is. To pimp your agriculture with machines at all you need an oil port on your island and of course a trade chain for the black gold to it.

On the island, the transport works very similar to the electricity plants. From the oil port you lay tracks to the new fuel station, which you place near your farm. The oil is then delivered there by trains, the depot produces fuel and in turn delivers it to the farms.

It is important to note here that fuel is not a resource that is stored in your warehouses. You absolutely need one or more fuel depots near your farms. Conveniently, the range of the building is pleasantly high and the building is a transit building - meaning your train can exit and continue on the other side.

The tractor barn in Anno 1800

For the tractors your farms also need an extension - similar to the silos in the cattle farm. The tractor barn must be adjacent to the main building and to a road. Once it is in place, it will be supplied by the nearby tank farm.

On top of that, the barn massively increases the maximum number of fields. With a supplied tractor barn, you increase your production by up to 300% per farm. Small tip: Even without fuel you can expand your fields. So it is worthwhile to build the extension in any case.

We have summarized all the important information for you here as well:

Requirement
  • Population level: Engineers
  • Resource:
    Oil
Usable buildings
  • Old world
Potato farm, grain farm, bell pepper farm, hop plantation, vineyard
  • New World
Banana plantation, tobacco farm, sugar cane plantation, corn farm, cotton farm, coffee plantation, cocoa plantation, rubber farm
ConsumptionTank farm
1t oil / 15 seconds
(capacity: 20t of fuel)

  • Tractor barn
    1t fuel / 5 min
Bonus

  • Productivity to 300
  • Increase in the number of fields

The loving details in Anno 1800 naturally permeate the DLCs as well. If you have the tractor barn, small combines drive over the grain farms and really "flatten" the fields.

So the tractors improve your farming productivity, but also require some fiddling with due to track laying and expanded fields.
