Deciphering the treasure maps in Red Dead Red emption 2 is certainly one of the more difficult tasks in the game. Most of the time, the maps contain only rudimentary clues about the places where the riches are hidden. To make your treasure hunt easier, in this guide we have listed the treasure maps that you can get to in the game and we will also tell you where to find the corresponding treasures.

If you are looking for treasures in the multiplayer mode of RDR2, then we can recommend our treasure map guide to Red Dead Online.

How to get the treasure maps

There are several ways to get treasure maps in Red Dead Redemption 2: You can either find them yourself or buy them from treasure hunters. You can also buy some of the treasure maps from your local fence.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Treasure Maps: Jack Hall Gang

Jack Hall treasure map number 1

The Jack Hall gang has hidden some treasures in the New Hanover area. You can acquire the gang's first map from the Spanish treasure hunter Maximo near Flatneck Station. If you miss the opportunity, you can also find the map in the fence's supply.

The treasure of the first map can be found in Caliban's Seat, almost exactly south of Valentine. Caliban's Seat is a striking rock formation. Ride up from the eastern side, then get off your horse. Go down the path in the screenshot and keep to the left. Jump and climb a bit (there is only one path) until you arrive at a ledge with a small hole in it. In it you will find the treasure - as well as treasure map number 2.

This inconspicuous path will lead you to Jack Hall treasure map number 2.

Jack Hall treasure map number 2

Once you've found the first treasure, you'll automatically be in possession of the second treasure map of the Jack Hall gang. It will lead you to Cotorra Springs, which can be found in Ambarinoa little south between the A and R on the map. At the western end you will find a circle of several stones piled on top of each other. In the middle formation you will find the third treasure map.

In this stone formation you will find the Jack Hall treasure map number 3.

Jack Hall treasure map number 3

Now you have map number 3 in your inventory, which will lead you to the actual treasure of the Jack Hall gang. You will find this in O'Creagh's Run, just east of the EAST of Grizzlies East on the map. You'll need to get onto the lake and onto the small rock island that's in the middle of it. There you'll eventually find the treasure of the Jack Hall gang: two gold bars that you can sell for $1000.

On the island in the middle of the lake is buried the treasure of the Jack Hall gang.

The treasure maps of the Risky Treasure

Risky Treasure - Map Number 1

To get this map, you'll need some luck, because you'll have to track down the elderly treasure hunter for it, who is usually north of Rigg's Station on a large rock. However, you can also find him in other places between Strawberry and Valentine. He will not offer you the Kare willingly, so you will have to either threaten, tie up, or kill him to get the map. Alternatively, you can buy the map from the fence.

The treasure map 1 for the Risky Treasure refers to the Cumberland Falls.

The first map of the risky treasure leads you to the Cumberland Falls, west of Valentine. Climb along the rocks on the right and over the cross tree trunk behind the waterfall to find the second map.

Use the cross tree trunk to get behind the waterfall.

Risky Treasure - Map Number 2

Treasure map number 2 takes you high into the cold north, to frozen Barrow Lake, south of the M of Ambarino. Look for a snow-covered log that forms a bridge over two rocks. Climb the log and you will find a hole in the middle with map number 3 in it.

In this snowy log you will find Map 3 of the Risky Treasure.

Risky Treasure - Map Number 3

Now you have the map that will show you the way to the actual treasure. You will find the Risky Treasure northeast of Fort Wallace. The way there is a bit more difficult to find. Start north of the fort and you'll see a rock formation that you'll ride up.

Look for this indentation on the hill to find the Risky Treasure.

At the top, leave your horse and head down a small indentation on foot. Keep to the left. When the small path forks at the rock, take the left fork up and crawl along the rock wall. Be careful: It's very easy to slip here. Jump down three rocks, first forward, then you have to turn around and jump back in the original direction afterwards. In the next bend of the path you will find the risky treasure in the form of three gold bars under a ledge.

Choose the left path here to get to the Risky Treasure.

The poison path treasure maps in RDR2

You can't buy the poison path treasure maps, you have to find them. You can find out how to do this and how to lift the entire treasure in our separate guide to the Poison Path Treasure.

The Torn Treasure Map

You have to put the two parts of a torn treasure map together to find the treasure. You will find them in the dwellings of two hermits. You won't be able to find the treasure until the epilogue of the game, since it is located near Armadillo.

The hermit

The hermit lives northeast of Annesburg in Manito Glade. He will try to chase you away, so you will have to kill him to get into his hut. You'll find the first half of the treasure map in a drawer - and also a unique rifle, the "Rare Shotgun".

The hermit makes it clear that he doesn't appreciate visits.

The Hermit

While the Hermit lives at the very eastern end of the map, the Hermit can be found at the western end of the map. Extend the line of "Grizzlies West" writing on the map to the left and you will find her. To get to her part of the map, which is also in a drawer, you'll have to kill her and her three dogs.

The hermit's barren dwelling.

The Treasure of the Torn Treasure Map

Once you have put the two parts of the treasure map together, it will lead you to Armadillo, specifically to Rattlesnake Hollow, between Twin Rocks and Rathskeller Fork at the border of the map. You'll find a narrow entrance into a cave that houses the treasure of Otis Miller. With the treasure you will get the rare Otis Miller revolver as well as six "erotic photographs".

The cave in Rattlesnake Hollow guards the treasure of the torn map.

The additional treasure maps of the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2

Players of the PC version released on November 5, 2019 can find two more treasures: The Elemental Path Treasure and the Landmark of Wealth Treasure.

The Elemental Path Treasure

You won't be able to track down the Elemental Path Treasure until the very end of the game, as most of the treasure's pieces are located in New Austin, southwest of Blackwater.

Elemental Path Treasure Map 1

To get to the first treasure map, ride all the way to the west of New Austin, to the Coronado Sea. On your map, you will see a corpse listed. You will find it hanging from a tree. Shoot the rope and take the dead man's treasure map.

To get the next map, you need to go to the San Luis River, north of the S on the map. You will find a destroyed house with a fireplace still intact. Search the fireplace to get to map 2.

Element Path Treasure Map 2

Map 2 points to a location at Benedict Point, south of Tumbleweed, specifically an abandoned facility that was apparently used to extract mineral resources. Enter the wooden conveyor belt from above and go down. About halfway down you will find map number 3.

The tomb with the wooden cross is the destination of the last Element Path Treasure Map.

Elemental Path Treasure Map 3

You will finally find the Elemental Path Treasure in Coot's Chapel, southeast of Armadillo and north of Lake Don Julio. Go to the cemetery and look for the grave with a wooden cross on it. You will be rewarded with a gold bar and a crow's beak talisman that increases the amount of ammo you find by 10r.

The Landmark of Wealth Treasure

The Landmark of Wealth Treasure lets you travel across almost the entire map of Red Dead Redemption 2, so you should bring time or use plenty of carriages and trains. Unlike the Elemental Path Treasure, you can get this treasure very early in the story.

Deep in the west you can find the Obelisk, starting point for the Landmark of Wealth treasure.

Landmark of Wealth Treasure Map 1

The first map for this treasure can be found in the obelisk northwest of Strawberry. Ride past Lake Owanjila from Strawberry and you will reach the obelisk beyond it at the western end of the map. Search it for the next map.

Landmark of Wealth Treasure Map 2

Equipped with the next clue, ride to the tiny church in Lemoyne, located southeast of the Lagras. Examine the steeple bell and you will find the next map.

Landmark of Wealth Treasure Map 3

The richly abstract third map shows a turtle with a hole in its shell and two wooden planks. This refers to the hobbit house that we already described in our RDR2 Easter Egg guide. Look for the broken window at the hobbit house and you will find a fourth map.

At the top of Mount Shann, the treasure hunt ends.

Landmark of Wealth Treasure Map 4

The fourth map is even harder to decipher, as it only shows a cannon and a tree with a hole. It is Bolger Blade, the historic site of a great battle. Ride towards Braithwaite Manor and you will find the site east of the W in MEADOWS. In the tree next to the cannon you will find the final clue for the treasure.

Landmark of Wealth Treasure Map 5

The last map shows a mountain with a rising sun and a clock. This refers to the sundial located on Mount Shann. Mount Shann is located just to the S of West Elizabeth. Climb the mountain, find the sundial and you will be rewarded with six gold bars.
