Ruined King: 8 Tips for the League of Legends Spin-Off

Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is a turn-based role-playing game in which you travel through Bilgewater with your playable characters. You want to find out what's going on with the Black Mist that has settled over the Shadow Isles. In this guide you will learn:

  • How important it is to choose the right difficulty level
  • Why you should use lanes
  • Why you should collect gold and Black Marks

Choice of difficulty levels

In Ruined King: A League of Legends Story you can choose between four difficulty levels: Story, Normal, Veteran or Heroic. If you haven't had any contact with League of Legends, be sure to start in Story mode. It's the easiest level and will teach you the basics, especially at the beginning. Besides, the fights are still pretty simple, so you can get to know the gameplay in peace and leave the fights with a victory.

Another advantage of the story mode is that you can skip a fight if necessary. Pause the fight by calling up the menu and then selecting "Skip Battle". This way you can escape from the enemies without fearing any consequences. It's different if you play one of the other difficulty levels. Then this feature is not available to you.

A plus point in the gameplay: You can adjust the difficulty level in the options at any time during the game - no matter in which direction. You don't have to start a new game, but can practically adjust the difficulty from fight to fight.

Here you can easily skip the fight.

Start the attack even before the actual fight

Battles in Ruined King are started by running your character into an enemy. Only then can you start doing damage. However, you can trick your opponent by attacking him even before the fight starts.

If you're fast enough, you can attack the opponent before the fight actually starts, so that he loses a few health points. After that, the fight will start - into which your enemy will start weakened.

Remember: not every character causes direct damage to the opponent. It always depends on who you attack with. For example, if you start with Braum, you can already stack a spell that will become more powerful as the fight progresses.

Group fights for bonus XP

Most of the time you will find an enemy to attack. In the fight itself, you will see if you are fighting one, two or three enemies. However, you can also trigger multiple enemies to group fights. This will result in you completing two or three fights in a row. This way you can earn bonus points and level up faster.

Your ultimates, as well as the increased stats you get during the first fight, will be carried over to the next fight. You don't have to start over and level up certain abilities.

You can also fight several groups in a row.

Scan the environment and farm for Gold and Black Marks

Gold and Black Marks are valuable resources in Ruined King: A League of Legends Story. You can use them to buy new items from merchants or upgrade your characters. You'll not only get gold and black marks as rewards after battles, but you'll also find them in chests and treasure chests.

These are everywhere in Bilgewater and on Shadow Island and you only need to loot them - if you find them. Not all boxes and chests can be opened. To find the right object, you'll need to scan your surroundings. Objects that you can interact with shimmer white.

In treasure chests you can also find potions that heal you, regenerate mana or improve certain stats.

Tip: Collect your money first and don't spend it on minor upgrades. Once you have invested a few hours in the game, you can buy improvements for your weapons or armor that will give you a big boost.

There are chests and chests hiding everywhere.

It pays to fish

As in many other games, in Ruined King you'll be able to indulge in your fishing desire. Once you have a fishing rod, you can start fishing right away. Cast your rod, wait for a fish to bite, and take it out. Why should you do this? You can sell the fish to merchants or use them for cooking.

You can even pull treasure chests out of the waters. However, this luck will only come to you later in the game.

Inspect your enemies before each battle

The enemies you'll face in the fights all have specific abilities. Once you are in a fight, you should take a close look at what spells your enemies can use. This way, you'll be able to adjust your abilities to those of your opponent and think about which spells you want to use and when.

Here you can give free rein to your tactical skills. The more clever you are, the more likely you are to win the fight.

What the lanes in Ruined King bring

Since Ruined Kings is a spin-off of League of Legends, there is a reunion with the lanes - but in a different form. During battles, you can place your characters' spells on three lanes: Speed Lane, Balance Lane and Power Lane

Your abilities are automatically placed on the Balance Lane, but it can be extremely useful to switch between the lanes. For example, in the Speed Lane, your spells will be used much sooner, but will also cause slightly less damage. Power lanes, on the other hand, take longer for your abilities to kick in, but they pack a punch.

Use all lanes to defeat your opponents early.

Use rest points

You'll find resting points throughout the game that serve several purposes. On the one hand, you can completely recover there after fights and regenerate your health and mana values. This will save you from having to consume precious potions outside of combat.

In addition, you can change your characters at the resting points. You always run through the world of Ruined King in a group of three characters, but there are many more to choose from. At the resting points you can rotate in between and go into battle with other characters.

Last but not least, you can eat meals aka buff food at these points, which will reward you with bonus stats. You can't eat food directly from your inventory, you have to rely on the rest points!
