Without mods, Minecraft looks pretty simple. But that changes as soon as you install one of the numerous shader packs. We give you an overview of the most beautiful shaders for Minecraft and tell you how to make them work with the help of the mod OptiFine.

Caution: The shaders only work with the Java version of Minecraft and are not compatible with the Windows 10 edition of Minecraft. However, if you have an NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics card, you can participate in the ray tracing beta for Minecraft Windows 10 Edition and thus bring your game to a new visual level. OptiFine: How to install the mod

The OptiFine mod makes Minecraft compatible with most shader and HD texture packs. That's why you should install it first before you try to use the shaders. Besides, OptiFine improves Minecraft's performance and adds additional options to the game, such as antialiasing, better grass or clear water.

Beware: some shaders are not compatible with the latest Minecraft and OptiFine version. We have added the compatible version to the respective shaders. If you want to use the corresponding shader, you have to create a Minecraft installation of the supported version and download the corresponding OptiFine version as described below.

The latest stable version of OptiFine is compatible with Minecraft 1.19. So create an installation of Minecraft 1.19 in the Minecraft launcher under "Installations" with " New" and start it.

Then download the appropriate version of the mod OptiFine:

Clicking on the downloaded .jar file will start the installation. In the Minecraft launcher you will now see the OptiFine version in the lower left corner and can start Minecraft with it.

How do I install shaders in Minecraft?

In the game, go to "Options", "Graphics Settings" and then "Shaders". Click on "Shader folder" to open the appropriate folder, where you can move the zip files of the downloaded shaders.

The shaders will then appear in the shader options in the game and will be activated with a click and confirmation on "Done".

Minecraft Shader Pack - SEUS: Renewed

SEUS: Renewed is one of the most impressive shader packs that is still regularly updated to this day. It features improved clouds, atmospheric sunrays and realistic reflections in water - just to name a few of the many new features.

BSL Shaders

While most shaders usually want to impress with blatant overblown effects, BSL Shader is more restrained and realistic. Thus, the shader is especially suitable for players who want to build a beautiful medieval world, in which not everything should shine and shine.

Nostalgia Shader

Shader Nostalgia aims to recreate the look-and-feel of the first shader packs that existed for Minecraft. Thus, unlike most shader packs, the typical Minecraft look is retained - recognizable, for example, by the clouds that remain angular.
