Hitman 3 Dartmoor Murderer: Solution & All Hints

The second mission in Hitman 3 called "Death in the Family" is an unusual level: here you not only have to plan and commit an assassination, but you can also hunt down a murderer! Here you can learn:

  • How to turn Agent 47 into a detective and start the story mission "Motive, Means and Opportunity"
  • How to collect and check all clues and alibis
  • How to solve the murder case and what you get in return

Hitman 3: Start story mission "Motive, Means and Opportunity

When you first arrive in Dartmoor, you can hardly miss the start of the story mission called "Murder, Means and Opportunity": Standing outside the gate to Thornbridge Manor is a well-known detective who has been summoned by Alexa Carlisle (Agent 47's target in this mission). He is to solve the supposed suicide of Alexa's brother Zachary.

The detective mission is completely optional. However, when Agent 47 takes on the role of Sherlock Holmes impersonator, he can look around the house undisturbed, which makes the level much easier. Besides, he can solve a cleverly designed murder case à la "Knives Out", which makes the mission one of the best in the entire game.

Hitman 3 Dartmoor: Disguise Agent 47 as a detective

This is how you become a detective:

  • Keep crouched in the bushes, climb over the broken wall and run parallel to the path until you are behind the bridge. On the way, pick up the brick in front of the bushes.
  • Wait in the bushes until the detective crosses the bridge.
  • Once he has crossed the bridge, throw the brick and lure him with it.
  • Overpower or shoot him as soon as he is as close to you as possible.
  • Quicklyhide him in the bushes and disguise yourself as him.

Then throw your gun into the bushes, go to the house and let the guards frisk you at the entrance of the mansion.

At this point you can easily lure the detective and overpower him. Be quick though and then hide him well!

Examine Zachary's room: All clues at the crime scene

Talk to the butler Mr. Fernsby in the house. Let Fernsby lead you to the crime scene. Examine Zachary's room and look at the following clues:

  • Search Zachary's laptop on the desk by the window.
  • Examine the suicide note on the table by the window.
  • Scans Zachary's body in bed with the camera phone.
  • Scans the whiskey bottle next to the bed with the camera phone.
  • Interact with the book on the shelf that appears in instinct mode. This will open a secret passage.
  • Take the map of the house that you will find in the secret passage.

Then go back to the first floor and talk to the butler again.

Question family members and collect alibis

Then question the five family members to get their alibis to collect. Ask each person until they tell you nothing new. All the people can be found on the first floor - in the following rooms:

  • Rebecca can be found in the trophy room or in the adjacent salon.
  • Emma and Gregory are in the salon.
  • Patrick is in the library or in the trophy room.
  • Edward is in the dining room.

Also, talk to the servant Rosie in the kitchen - she already confirms Patrick's alibi, which eliminates him as the murderer.

Moderately sympathetic: The Carlisle family around matriarch Alexa (right in the armchair).

Find all clues in Dartmoor

Next, you'll need to collect clues to confirm the remaining alibis and get closer to solving the case. First, get a crowbar - you can find one, for example, on crates behind the greenhouse or by the van in front of the house.

Butler's office

From the front door, turn right into the hallway, go through the door marked "Staff only" and behind it to Mr. Fernsby's office. Alternatively, you can get there through the kitchen and the servants' area. The glass door of the office is locked, you have to break it with the crow bar. Take the following clues and items:

  • the list on the desk
  • Zachary's burnt diary in the fireplace
  • Mr. Fernsby's pills (deadly poison) at the window
  • the master key in the shelf on the left

You can now already close the murder case and accuse Mr. Fernsby to Alexa. She will believe you, but the butler is not the real murderer.

Here's the way to the butler's office - but not without a crowbar.

Dining Room & Parlor

If you want to continue searching, run into the dining room and scan the note with Edward's speech. It is either on the table or Edward is holding it in his hand. Also scan the picture of Alexa's brother Montgomery in the parlor.

Emma's & Gregory's room

Then go to the second floor and use the master key to open the door to Emma and Gregory's room. Discover the following clues there:

  • Take the greenhouse keychain next to the suitcases.
  • Scan the dirty shoes in front of the closet in the corner to the right of the entrance with the camera phone.
  • Read the letter from Emma's mother on the nightstand.
  • Take the walking stick with the dog's head to the left of the entrance - you will need it now.

This walking stick is a secret key.

Secret switch in the library

Then go to the upper part of the library. On a bookshelf in the corner you will see an object called "Secret Switch" when you stand in front of it. Here you can use the walking stick with the dog's head to open a secret room. Inside you will find a letter - an important clue that unlocks another possible ending for the murder case.

Rebecca's room

On the same floor you will also find Rebecca's room. The clues that confirm her alibi:

  • Examine the laptop on the table.
  • Scan the documents by the fireplace with the camera phone.

Here you will use the walking stick.

Greenhouse & Exterior

Afterwards, leave the house and go to the greenhouse. Carefully break open the door and don't get caught. You will find the following clues inside:

  • Scan the book with the poison dosage chart on the countertop with your camera phone.
  • Collect the poisonous plants.

Finally, run from the greenhouse back to the house. Near the door leading from the garden into the living room, pull out your camera phone and scan the muddy footprints on the floor. Now you are sure: Emma is the murderer! Now you can close the case.

Easy to miss without the camera: telltale footprints behind the house.

Hitman 3 Dartmoor: Solution - Who is the murderer?

Talk to Mr. Fernsby and let him take you to Alexa. In the conversation with her you now have three options:

  • Accuse Mr. Fernsby: You can claim the case file as a reward. After that, Alexa will go to the balcony, where you can finish her off secretly if you want.
  • Accuse Zachary: With the letter you found, you can make Alexa believe that Zachary committed suicide. You can demand the case file, after which Alexa will throw herself off the balcony.
  • Accuse Emma: Solving the case correctly will also get you the case file and a favorable opportunity to kill Alexa.
