Warning, this article contains mild spoilers!

Days Gone puts you in a post-apocalypse on the PlayStation 4. Just about everything wants to kill you and resources are also limited - at least in theory. Because in practice, the survival aspect of the game is unlikely to present you with any major challenges.

There is enough loot, your pockets are always filled with sufficient exploration. Nevertheless, there are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to survival and combat mechanics. Our survival guide will show you exactly what.

1. The survival mechanics in Days Gone

In Days Gone, your character Deacon must survive. This is reflected in the gameplay, because like in a survival game, you have to gather resources, repair weapons and collect blueprints.

Resources are divided into loot, plants, meat and remaining items. Loot is merely the remains of slain zombies, usually an ear. You can't do much with them, but you can sell them in warehouses.

In return, you'll receive credits, which you can use to buy new weapons or improvements for your motorcycle. The credits are only valid for the respective camp - so you always have different account balances with the different factions.

When you are with a faction, you can see your credits and where you actually are on the right.

Plants and meat are the same. You can only sell them as well. The rest of the items are more interesting. You need scrap metal to repair your motorcycle or to improve weapons. For example, you can use scrap and a pipe to make a sturdier club out of a piece of squared lumber.

Medicine, bolts for the crossbow, Molotov cocktails, traps and much more can all be made by yourself - as long as you have found the necessary resources and the right blueprints.

2. Days Gone: Get new blueprints

You'll get blueprints automatically after certain missions , or rather after a certain percentage of a storyline. Our beginner tips explain exactly how Days Gone is structured. You can see how much of the story you need to play to get the blueprints in the menu.

New recipes are unlocked automatically as you progress through the story.

3. Days Gone: Stealth Tactics

To survive in the post-apocalypse, you should always try to proceed quietly. Because if an enemy doesn't see or hear you and you can sneak close enough to them, you can take them out with a press of a button.

The indicators for the sounds you make and whether you are visible can be found to the left of the minimap. If you don't have the "Thief in the Night" skill yet, you'll have to tap the stick lightly so that Deacon doesn't make a sound.

If you are targeting a camp, you should park your motorcycle at least 100 meters from the target. Hide in tall grass or behind objects and press the digipad upwards. Then your character takes out the binoculars. Now use R2 to mark all visible enemies, which helps you immensely when sneaking.

The red marking also shows the life energy of the enemies - if the square fills up, they will discover you.

This way you can see their routes and hide from them more easily. Now slowly take out the enemies one by one. You can also use stones to attract and kill individual enemies. The red markings are also their life bars, which you won't see otherwise. So even for an open fight you should mark the people and monsters.

Enemies don't sound an alarm at corpses, so you don't have to worry about that. However, watch out for bear traps and trip wires. The former will hurt you and quickly attract enemies. The latter will also alert the enemies. Then the only way is to hide and wait for everyone to calm down, or to engage in open combat.

4. How to behave in combat

You can't always avoid fights. If it comes to it, there are some things to consider. Especially in the beginning, close combat is a good choice. If you have three or less enemies, always strike them in turn with your melee weapon. If one of them retreats and tries to counterattack, you roll off and start attacking again.

With a manageable number of enemies, you should always take out your knife or club.

Keep in mind that your clubs can break. So always collect a new one when you find one. Your knife, on the other hand, will always last - but will also deal significantly less damage. Another reason to always use melee whenever possible is your low ammo supply.

Deacon can't carry much around and rarely gets new cartridges from enemies. So use your entire arsenal when necessary. Especially halfway through the game, the enemies become more numerous and carry more firearms. Here it is also recommended to shoot back in open combat.

It's best to take a shotgun, a pistol and your crossbow with you. This way you'll be prepared for short, medium and long distances and you can also proceed quietly. You can also collect the enemies' weapons - but Days Gone doesn't store them in the weapon cabinet. You'll only find weapons there that you've bought in warehouses.

Also, always have enough healing items with you, which you use by pressing the digipad to the left. You'll need them, as Deacon can't take many shots and doesn't regenerate energy easily. You can also create the basic healing items yourself in the menu - provided you have the right resources.

In open battles you should use everything at your disposal.
