The Helldivers 2 meta to overcome the most difficult missions
If you want to complete the most challenging missions in Helldivers 2 and defeat enemy insects and robots, you will need the best equipment and stratagem builds. While there is no single perfect combination, as good teamwork and choosing the right power-ups for the entire group are just as important, there are some. Featured Weapons and Stratagems that you must take into account depending on the mission and the enemies you face.
The best General build
This combination is especially powerful on the higher difficulties (Mission Suicide, Impossible, and Inferno), as it includes very good stratagems despite some nerfs. It's a versatile build that offers both solid protection and powerful weapons to take down the most armored enemies. You can even use it for solo missions. You will need at least level 20 to access items like the Railgun and the Personal Shield Generator. The build is:
- Primary: Shotgun Breaker
- Secondary: Redeemer Pistol
- Grenade: High Explosive
- Armor: Any light or medium armor
- Stratagems: Railgun + Personal Shield Generator + any two between Railcannon Orbital Attack, Orbital Laser and 500kg Eagle Bomb
The best build against Terminids
The Terminids primarily use swarm tactics and melee attacks, seeking to overwhelm Helldivers teams with sheer numbers and giant claws. They are generally not as well armored as the Automata and have many dangerous units but fragile that are susceptible to fire. A good build is:
- Primary: Breaker Shotgun, Breaker Spray & Pray Shotgun, or Liberator
- Secondary: Redeemer Pistol
- Grenade: High Explosive
- Armor: Any light or medium armor
- Stratagems: Flamethrower + Personal Shield Generator or “Guard Dog” Rover + Orbital Laser + Railcannon Orbital Attack or 500kg Eagle Bomb
The Flamethrower is great for roasting bugs as they are vulnerable to fire damage, including armored ones like Chargers. This build should not be used by all four team members, but is good for one or two people.
The best Helldivers 2 build against Automata
Dealing with the Automata requires blunt weapons that can be fired at various distances.. Fortunately, there are plenty of options here when it comes to support weapons, as the Railgun is far from the only effective bot-killer. I recommend:
- Primary: Breaker Shotgun, Slugger Shotgun, Plas-1 Scorcher, or Diligence Precision Rifle
- Secondary: Redeemer Pistol
- Grenade: High Explosive or Impact
- Armor: Any light or medium armor
- Stratagems: Railgun, Anti-Material Rifle, Bow Launcher or Grenade Launcher + Personal Shield Generator + Railcannon Orbital Attack, Orbital Laser or 500kg Eagle Bomb
The best way to counter the Automata's firepower is with even more of your own. The shield generator is very useful for blocking heavy fire from Automaton weapons. Still, it's a good idea to have one or two team members use backpack stratagem weapons, as they are some of the most powerful in the game.
The best build for beginners
Some of the best build options are not available until level 20, which may take a while to achieve. However, there are some solid alternatives and less powerful stratagems you can unlock for lower difficulty missions. All of the following options can be unlocked before level 10:
- Primary: Liberator Assault Rifle
- Secondary: Redeemer Pistol
- Armor: Any medium armor
- Support Weapon Stratagems: Anti-Material Rifle, Stalwart, Recoilless Rifle, Grenade Launcher
- Offensive Stratagems: Eagle Strafing Pass, Eagle Cluster Bomb, Orbital Gas Strike, Orbital Precision Strike, 120mm HE Orbital Bombardment
- Defensive Stratagems: Machine Gun Turret, Mortar Turret
With so many stratagems available, it's a good idea to make sure you and your allies pick up a variety so you can take on any enemy on low to medium difficulties. You will need to armor-penetrating and explosive weapons and stratagems to deal with boss type enemies, but also some that can deal with swarms of weaker enemies.
Once you reach level 10, you'll be able to get things like the Autocannon, 120mm HE Orbital Bombardment, 110mm Eagle Rocket Pods, and both Watchdog Rovers, which are useful stratagems to have on moderate difficulties. and high, helping you get closer to the best possible builds in Helldivers 2 for level 20.
