Devil May Cry 5 Guide: These five tips will help you get started

You want to start with Devil May Cry and are still looking for the right tips? Then you've come to the right place. After all, we reveal here

  • what you should pay attention to
  • how the start in DMC5 will be easy for you

You start with Nero, who is already known from one of the predecessors. With him you'll fight your way through hordes of enemies, get new Devil Breakers and then switch to the newest member of the demon hunters: V.

The mysterious man with a walking stick finishes off the enemies with his own pet demons. His fighting style is completely new and requires some time to get used to. The third member is Dante, who pulls one trick after another out of his hat, as usual.

The many boss fights are not easy and especially newcomers have some challenges ahead of them with DMC5. We tell you in our beginner's guide how it still works and you can achieve SSS combos right at the beginning.

1. Choose the right difficulty level

There is no shame in being human - not even in . When you start the game, the difficulty level can be selected beforehand. On the first run-through, you can choose between Easy and Normal. At this point, we advise newcomers to the genre or DMC beginners to choose the easier option.

Don't worry, this doesn't mean that you won't have any challenges ahead of you and that you'll get bored. Due to the countless combos, various Devil Breakers including special abilities and attacks, it's simply advantageous to first become familiar with the mechanics at a moderate level. If the combos are right and you know how everything works, the second run on Normal will be much easier.

Also, the human level has the advantage that you'll be able to create really cool chains much faster, which will ultimately earn you a high Stylish rank. This gives you an extra portion of red orbs. If you're having a bit of a hard time with the various combos, there's auto mode to help you out a bit. Even the simplest key combinations will produce sparkling combinations on the screen with this assistance. You can activate and deactivate it at any time.

2. Practice makes perfect

Devil May Cry is not an easy game, especially on the higher levels, and it's especially tricky for beginners when it comes to particularly strong bosses. While the small demons can be quickly cleared out of the way with button mashing, it's a completely different story with Uriel and Co.

In order to survive against certain opponents in the course of the game and to simply master your own weapons better, there is the Void. In this training room, you can choose an opponent from all the demons you've met so far and practice your strategy on him. Over and over again. Try out new combos that you bought from Nico in the van or look for weak points, as well as the coolest possible ways to defeat the opponent. This will also increase your Stylish rank later on.

3. Search and collect red orbs

We often talk about the red orbs in our guides, which are especially important to buy new skills and Devil Breaker. If you kill an enemy with a particularly large number of different attacks and create stylish chains, you will receive a correspondingly high score rank. This is rewarded with a large number of red orbs.

But there are more ways to get them. Look for them in side alleys or hidden corners as well. Their red color really shines at you and is just waiting to be collected. Inconspicuous things like shop windows or decorative objects also give off a few red dots when you hit them.

4. Take your time shopping

When Nico first comes around the corner with her van, the selection of skills is already huge. Since each character has their own skills, you can quickly spend a lot of red orbs here and bam - you're already broke.

Be sure to take a moment and get an overview of what's on offer and think carefully about which skills you really need now. Sometimes it's also worth just saving a little and leaving Nico without a big purchase.

5. Rearrange keys

Due to the high number of button combinations (for numerous good-looking attacks), almost all buttons on the controller are used. If you're not used to this, it will take you a while to get used to the many possibilities. Ease your way into it and adjust the controller settings to your liking in the menu.

Put you frequently used combinations on buttons that you can reach comfortably and are perhaps already used to from other games. Thus, the execution of chains is much easier and you will quickly have a sense of achievement. Now nothing stands in the way of the SSS rank!
